How to plot this
Hi there, I produced a plot using the following codes: y<-rnorm(1000, 2, 0) x0<-c(0, 0) y0<-c(0, 0) y1<-c(0, 1) x1<-c(0, 4) plot(density(y), ylab="Abundance of species", xlab="Environmental gradient", main=" ", xlim=c(0, 4), ylim=c(0, 1), lty=2, col=4, xaxt="n", yaxt="n", frame.plot=F) lines(x0, y1) # add an axis

How to fill irregular polygons with patterns?
Hi, I'm looking the best way to fill irregular polygons with patterns, Something like the function grid.pattern do, but my case is with irregular polygons. Whit this script I can get it, but I'm looking for an "elegant" solution.. library(grid) grid.polygon(x=c(0.2, 0.8, 0.6, 0.6, 0.8, 0.2), y=c(0.2, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7,0.7), gp=gpar(fill="grey",

Grid newbie: aligning & scaling viewports
Oh Knowledgeable Ones: I'm working on a project using grid graphics (for the first time). A toy example is given below, run it simply with >foobar() I am wondering why the pink dot and concentric circles are not centered on the 3-color axis system. Further, I feel like the concentric circles don't have the intended radius - if my math is right, the outmost circle should touch the

removing last piece of grid graphical output with grid.remove
Hello - If I create multiple pieces of output in grid, and use grid.remove() to try to remove the output from the graphics device, I cannot seem to remove the final piece of output from the device until I 'refresh' the graphics device by giving it focus. The function grid.remove() does appear to remove the grob from the display list, however. I noticed this when the example on page

How to remove x, y labels from a plot
Hi there, I need to plot an illustrative figure without ticks, x, y labels in R. I managed to get the ticks removed, but had no luck with x, y labels. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Jin Li [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

how to test this
Dear there, I am wondering how to test whether a simple linear regression model (e.g. y=1.05x) is significantly different from a 1 to 1 line (i.e. y=x). Thanks. Regards, Jin [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

grid.cap() requires more time?
Dear all, I am puzzled by the following behavior of the new grid.cap() function, which appears to run out of time when capturing the output of a graphic. It works fine if I introduce a Sys.sleep(1) before executing more code, library(grid) quartz() grid.circle(gp=gpar(fill="black")) gg <- grid.cap() dev.new() grid.raster(gg) ## completely blank gg[gg!="white"] ## indeed

need help with contourplot figure
I can't figure out how to add tick marks on both my X and Y axis. For example, my X axis ranges from 0 to 1 and there are both a tick mark and a number label at the X-axis values of 0.2,0.4,0.6. and 0.8. I want to add tick marks to the figure at every 0.1 value. This will help a viewer determine the values on the x axis. I included all of my code. I apologize but it is very long. I am

help simplifying complex graphic arguments to a function
I'm working on a package to produce graphic displays of 2- and 3-way tables and need some help/advice on how to simplify the specification of a complex argument that gives the drawing details for each cell of the table. Prototypes of two functions, 'tableplot' and 'cellgram' are given below. The essential idea is that for a given table ('values'), the cells can be be

Customised legend in lattice
Hi List, Am trying to customize a legend in trellis: Draws 2x5 lines in 5 colors and 2 linetypes. I would like to add two more items to the legend showing the key for the line types above the colored legend. Any suggestions welcome - thanks Herry ############################# #Following example code: library(gregmisc) trellis.device(bg="white") i1=0 i2=-1.89767506 i3=-1.17087085

How to add circular text for a graph with concentric circles
Dear R experts, I am plotting the population of students who live in a city, and in successive circular bands made of the contiguous districts that surround the city. This is a stylized figure, where I specify the area of each successive circle based on the cumulative population of students. I want to compare two sets of concentric circles across different populations - such as 'All

size of point symbols
Dear list, This might be a topic for r-devel but i may be missing something obvious. I don't understand the rationale in the absolute sizes of the point symbols, and I couldn't find it documented. The example below uses Grid to check the size of the symbols against a square of 10mm x 10mm. > checkOneSymbol <- function(pch=0){ > gTree(children=gList( >

draw a circle with a gradient fill
Hi all,I would like to draw a simple circle where the color gradient follows the rule color = 1/(r^2) where r is the distance from the circle. I would also like to add a color bar with values going from -40 to -110 (and associate those with the color gradient that fills the circle). So far I experiemented with draw circle

How to alter circle size
Hello all, I'm trying to create a heatmap using 2 matrices I have: z and v. Both matrices represent different correlations for the same independent variables. The problem I have is that I wish to have the values from matrix z to be represented by color intensity while having the values from matrix v to be represented by circle size. I currently have the following in front of me and an unsure
