NLS question:Quadratic plus plateau fit
Dear R colleagues: Am trying to fit a simple NL model to determine Economical Optimum Nitrogen Rates. The segmented (quadratic + plateau) model only works with some y's, in some cases I get a "singular gradient" error. I'll appreciate any ideas in how to solve the singular gradient error. Thanks, Jose # The following code works using yield2 in the nls model but not using

Event-triggered change in value with a time-delay
Hello, I am solving a set of ODEs using deSolve and have run into a problem I would appreciate some advice on. One of the parameters (m) in the ODEs changes between two states when one of the variables (D) crosses a threshold (D_T) for the first time in either direction. Additionally, when the variable crosses the threshold (either by increasing or decreasing), there is a time delay (delay)

Register Allocation and Scheduling Issues
Hello, I have defined 8 registers in registerinfo.td file in the following order: R_0, R_1, R_2, R_3, R_4, R_5, R_6, R_7 But the generated assembly code only uses 2 registers. How to enable it to use all 8? Also can i control the ordering like after R_0 can i use R_5 without changes in registerinfo.td? What changes are required here? either in scheduling or register allocation phases?

Matrix/Vector manipulation
Hi guys, Have the following problem computing vectors with pure vector algebra and end up reverting to recursion or for-looping. Function my_cumsum calculates a weighted average (W) of ratios (R), but only up to the given size/volume (v). Now I recurse into the vector (from left to right) with what you have left from the difference of volume minus current weight, and stop when the difference is

significance test for difference of two correlations
Dear R users, how can I test, whether two correlations differ significantly. (I want to prove, that variables are correlated differently, depending on the group a person is in.) Greetings from Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Timo Stolz

Combining math and variables in expression
I am trying to get the following line in a plot margin using mtext: 100% Area = 120.000 km^2 Where I intend that "100% Area =" is text, 120.000 is a number that varies according to different data, and km^2 should be a neat km-with-superscript-2. The expression function fails me, since it apparently cannot coerce an expression when a variable is involved. In the R help file there is

Thanks. I am fully aware of what aggregate() returnes, and I can post-process this into the form I want ? if the names are available. But for foo, the returned object is both different in structure and loses the name altogether: foo <- function(x) { c(mean = base::mean(x)) } str(aggregate(iris$Sepal.Length, by = list(iris$Species), FUN = foo)) ## 'data.frame': 3 obs. of 2 variables:

Superscript followed by number then superscript in text
Hi all, I'm having problems finding the correct format for a command. I would like to write some text on a plot. I'm using the following command: text(x,y,"text here", srt=90) I would like the text to read: capacity 10^3 m^3 (with ^ denoting superscript (i.e. each '3' as superscript). I've tried fiddling around with expression(paste(etc.... to no avail. I

sub- and superscript in plot labels
Dear List, I need to add a subscript and a superscript to some of the ions in the labels on some plots. I have got to here but now I'm stuck: plot(1:10, xlab = expression(paste("nm SO"[4], " ", mu, "eq cm"^{-2}, " yr"^{-1}))) Which gives almost what I require. No matter what I tried, however, I could not get bot a sub script *and* a superscript

Simultaneous subscripts and superscripts
Dear List, I'd like to add text to a plot where a text symbol has both a superscript and subscript. For example, the variable S with a superscript 2 and a subscript t. I have been able to accomplish this using either expression( paste(S,atop(scriptstyle(2),scriptstyle(t))) ) or expression( {S[t]}^2 ) but the spacing isn't quite right (or rather what I'd like) using either of

Superscript number before letter
Salut, I have been struggling to superscript the 18 before the O without ^ visible and found only help to superscript numbers after the letter. Thanks to anyone who can help. xlab=expression(delta*18O VSMOW [?]") Cheers, Janine -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/Superscript-number-before-letter-tp3495577p3495577.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at

Inserting superscripts in free-format text line
I would like to insert a superscript in a body of text (e.g., a title or axis label), where the superscript is not necessarily at the end of the text. For example, suppose a title read, "This is a Test^1 of the Emergency Broadcast System" where there is a superscript 1 after the word Test. As a starting point for what I'm trying to do, the following shows a superscript:

cross-correlation table with subscript or superscript to indicate significant differences
Hi, I wonder whether the following is possible with R, and whether anyone has done that and can share his/her code with me. I have a correlation matrix, and I want to create a correlation table that I can copy to Microsoft Word with a superscript above each correlation, indicating significant differences in the same row. That is, when correlations in the same row do not share superscript, it means

superscript troubles
I know that this has been revisited over and over, yet I cannot figure out how to solve this case of superscript troubles... superscript characters in title with '+'

How to write "%" before superscript?
I would like to write atom% 15N in the ylab of a plot - "15" should be written as superscript. How do I put "%" into the expression? It does not work if I type "%" directly after "atom" in the expression below. plot(1:10, ylab = expression(atom^15*N)) Best regards, Thomas Larsen [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

superscript
Dear R-users. I'm struggeling to fix the superscript of a label of a figure axis. For some reason R doesn't recognize the "hat" symbol. plot(1,1,xlab="ligth intensity (PAR)",ylab=expression("mass Pteridium rhizomes" (gr/0.25m^2))) A very similiar scriptline does not give any problem at all: plot(1,1,xlab=expression("balsa plot basal
