About ROC curves
Hi, Dear all R users:
Does someone know whether R can calculate the Receiver Operating
Characteristic (ROC) Curves? I didn't find it from the packages.
Thanks a lot.

: a package problem
Dear R- users and Helpers:
I downloaded the package from www.stat.lsa.umich.edu/~faraway/book and
installed it from local zip file.
It looked fine. But when I input
library(faraway)
it showed " Error in library(faraway) : 'faraway' is not a valid package
--- installed < 2.0.0?
What I used is R 2.0.0 version now.
What should I do?
Thank you very much.

How to set read.table variables to vectors?
The summary stats for the xin and yin variables below are correct. However,
if I use plot(xin, yin), an exception is thrown saying that "object xin is
not found."
Also, it is apparent that I can't successfully replace the x and y vectors
with values from xin and yin.
The four plots on one panel are showing but the range of x and y is only
[0,1], and therefore, it seems like an

Missing value in Rpart
Hi, all
Our understanding of how classification trees in Rpart treat missing is
that if the variable is ordinal(continous), Rpart, by default, imputes a
value for missing. How do we do the classification tree and tell Rpart not
to impute. That is, what command is used to turn off the imputation.
Also, if we do get true missing, how does classification tree analysis in
Rpart treat missing when

Question about rpart decision trees (being used to predict customer churn)
Hi,
I am using rpart decision trees to analyze customer churn. I am finding that
the decision trees created are not effective because they are not able to
recognize factors that influence churn. I have created an example situation
below. What do I need to do to for rpart to build a tree with the variable
experience? My guess is that this would happen if rpart used the loss matrix
while creating

how to construct tree under R
Hello.
I have a hudge problem, don't know how to deal with it...
I'm supposed to implement a tree structure in R, without using
rpart library...
I don't have any clue about appropriate approach...
Anyway, I can't use pointers under R...so how to to it?
lists, vectors...
Anyway, does anybody knows how the regression tree in rpart was
implemented...
Someone please help!
Thanks,
ana

[PATCH] ocfs2: fix data corruption after failed write
From: Jan Kara via Ocfs2-devel <ocfs2-devel at oss.oracle.com>
commit 90410bcf873cf05f54a32183afff0161f44f9715 upstream.
When buffered write fails to copy data into underlying page cache page,
ocfs2_write_end_nolock() just zeroes out and dirties the page. This can
leave dirty page beyond EOF and if page writeback tries to write this page
before write succeeds and expands i_size, page gets

knn using custom distance metric
Hi,
There are two packages providing knn classification: class and knnTree.
However, it seems both uses Eucleadian distances only. How can I uses a
custom distance function with either package?
Thanks,

rpart/tree issue
I am trying to create a classification tree using either tree or rpart
but when it comes to plotting the results the formatting I get is
different than what I see in all the tutorials. What I would like to
see is the XX/XX format but all I get is a weird decimal value. I was
also wondering how you know which is yes and which is no in each leaf of
the tree? Is yes always on the left?

Validation errors in has_one/belongs_to relationships.

QuoteInput has one Insured and Insured belongs to QuoteInput.
I don''t understand what I''m seeing.
I assign an Insured to a QuoteInput. The Insured object has invalid

I call save! on the quote input. QuoteInput has no validations.
I expect two things to happen - 1) an exception should be thrown,

[LLVMdev] loop fusion in LLVM
Hi Qi,
No, we don’t have loop fusion. The loop fusion transformation itself is easy, but the profitability and legality checks are challenging. For legality, you would need to analyze the memory that you access and figure out that it is legal to fuse the loops. For profitability you would need to predict the effect on performance. You would need to predict register pressure and resource

multivariate splits
Dear R users!
Does someone know about any algorithms / packages in R, that perform
classification / regression / decision trees using multivariate
splits?
I have done some research, but I found nothing. Packages "tree" and
"rpart" seem only to be able to do CART with univariate splits.
Thank you for your help!
