Java-R
Dear R user
We would be interested to talk with someone, living in Milan (Italy)
area, with good experience in Java-R based applications development.
We can provide good R skills but we are poor java programmers
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance for any help

automatic SI prefixes as ticklabels on axis
i want to plot values with frequency on a logarithmic x axis.
similar to this example that i found in the web:
http://www.usspeaker.com/jensen%20p15n-graph.gif
I would like to convert long numbers to si prefix notation
like in the example
(200000 to 200k, 35000000 to 3.5 M)
Of course i could create labels by hand, but
i have many files so i need some automatic function.
Has anyone done that

get the percentage rank of a value based on an empirical data vector
Hi,
I have a vector with values:
x <- rnorm(1000, 5, 2)
and one single value:
y <- 6.2
now I would like to know the percent rank of y based on the 'population'-vector x.
Is there a convenient function that calculates the percent rank of a y for the given vector x?
thanks!

Table with different digit number
Hi!
I have a table representing both absolute and relative frequency, for
example (code to get example data under the signature):
Italy Germany
absolute 100 105
relative 40.51 41.18
How can I print a different number of decimal digits? I try to transform to
as.character, but cells result aligned to left and I don't like this
solution. At the

Read SAS data
Hi!
I need to import in R some SAS dataset (sas7bdat). I found two functions to
do it:
"read.ssd" from the package "foreign" and "sas.get" from "Hmisc".
df = read.ssd(libname = path2data, sectionnames = "sasSmallDataset",
tmpXport = path2data, tmpProgLoc = path2data, sascmd = path2sas)
sas.get(libraryName = path2data, member =

Table Modification
I am trying to construct a two-way table where, instead of printing the
two-way frequencies in the table, I would like to print the values of a
third variable that correspond to the frequencies.
For example, the following is easily constructed in R
> fact1 <- factor(sample(LETTERS[1:3],10,replace=TRUE))
> fact2 <- factor(sample(LETTERS[25:26],10,replace=TRUE))
> fact3

Interpretation of VarCorr results
Dear all,
I'm working with a model to estimate components of variance by using the
lme() function.
The model is as the following:
model=lme(fixed=X~1+as.factor(station),data=myData,na.action=na.exclude,rand
om=~N+1|spliceOrHoming)
Where X is the response measured variable, station is treated as fixed
effects factor, N is a continuous variable, and spliceOrHoming is a

Value Lookup from File without Slurping
Dear all,
I have a repository file (let's call it repo.txt)
that contain two columns like this:
# tag value
AAA 0.2
AAT 0.3
AAC 0.02
AAG 0.02
ATA 0.3
ATT 0.7
Given another query vector
> qr <- c("AAC", "ATT")
I would like to find the corresponding value for each query above,
yielding:
0.02
0.7
However, I want to avoid slurping whole repo.txt

limits
Hey,
what is the R function for the mathematical limit ?
e.g. to calculate and return the amount that the expression
X^2 +X +2
approach
as X approach 2
(X-> 2)

Extracting Numbers from MANOVA output
Hi,
Suppose I have:
> summary(manova(plank.man))
Df Pillai approx F num Df den Df Pr(>F)
plankton.new[, 1] 1 0.5267 9.8316 6 53 2.849e-07 ***
Residuals 58
---
Signif. codes: 0 `***' 0.001 `**' 0.01 `*' 0.05 `.' 0.1 ` ' 1
My understanding is the MANOVA summary returns a list.

Unbalanced Manova
Dear all,
I need to do a Manova but I have an unbalanced design. I have
morphological measurements similar to the iris dataset, but I don't have
the same number of measurements for all species. Does anyone know a
procedure to do Manova with this kind of input in R?
Thank you very much,
Naiara.

density() function: differences with S-PLUS
Hello!
Someone know what are the difference between R and S-PLUS in the density()
function?
For example, I would like to reply this simple S-PLUS code in R, but I don't
understand which parameter I should modify to get the same results.
S-PLUS CODE:
density(1:1000, width = 4)
R-CODE:
density(1:1000, bw = 4, window = "g", n = 50, cut = 0.75)
I obtain the same x values, but

how to add a child to a child in XML
Big thanks. newXMLNode works great. Wonder why it is not included in the documentation.
There is newXMLDoc and newXMLNamespace, but no mention of newXMLNode.

p value in MANOVA
Dear R users,
Can anyone tell me how to get the p value out of the output from
summary.manova?
I tried all the methods I can think of, but failed.
Many thanks

MANOVA permutation testing
Hi,
I've got a dataset with 7 variables for 8 different species. I'd like
to test the null hypothesis of no difference among species for these
variables. MANOVA seems like the appropriate test, but since I'm
unsure of how well the data fit the assumptions of equal
variance/covariance and multivariate normality, I want to use a
permutation test.
I've been through CRAN looking at

how to add a child to a child in XML
Hi,
It's a reasonable question. The answer is that it actually is included, but there are many instances across packages where multiple functions are documented on a single help page. The following brings up such a page... (for XML_3.98-1.9)
> library(XML)
> ?newXMLNode
You can see the same on line...

how to add a child to a child in XML
Just to clarify and hopefully catch the attention of the maintainer:
The newXMLNode function is not mentioned in:
https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/XML/XML.pdf
which supposedly describes all functions in the package.

httr::content without message
Thanks to all that replied. I had just looked through the httr code and sure enough for a .csv mime time it calls readr::read_csv(). The httr::content docs suggest not using automatic parsing in a package, rather to determine mime type and parse yourself and Ben's suggestion also works if I do:
junk <- readr::read_csv(r1$content, col_types = cols())
Perfect. Using httr rather than

aggregate / collapse big data frame efficiently
Hi,
I need to aggregate rows of a data.frame by computing the mean for rows with the same factor-level on one factor-variable;
here is the sample code:
x <- data.frame(rep(letters,2), rnorm(52), rnorm(52), rnorm(52))
aggregate(x, list(x[,1]), mean)
Now my problem is, that the actual data-set is much bigger (120 rows and approximately 100.000 columns) ? and it takes very very long

rgdal error when trying to import raster
Indeed, Ben, but the question was something more like it is not a Dependency, just Suggested, so why the error...
John:
If you read the Introduction to the 'raster' package vignette, it indicates that some input formats are supported within the raster package and some rely on other packages. Clearly the attempt to read a TIFF was an example of the latter. Had you used a different input
