solve nonlinear equation using BBsolve
Hi r-users, I would like to solve system of nonlinear equation using BBsolve function and below is my code.  I have 4 parameters and I have 4 eqns. mgf_gammasum <- function(p) { t  <- rep(NA, length(p)) mn <- 142.36 vr <- 9335.69 sk <- 0.8139635 kur <- 3.252591 rh  <- 0.896 # cumulants k1 <- p[1]*(p[2]+p[3]) k2 <- p[1]*(2*p[2]*p[3]*p[4] +p[2]^2+p[3]^2) k3 <-

MATLAB to R
Ladies and Gentlemen, In MATLAB, I can write: for J=1:M Y(J+1)=Y(J)+ h * feval(f,T(J),Y(J)); ... In R, I can write above as: for (J in 2:M) { y = y + h * f(t,y) ... } ---- In MATLAB, I can write: for J=1:M k1 = feval(f,T(J),Y(J)); k2 = feval(f,T(J+1),Y(J)+ h * k1 How do I write k2 in R? k1 = f(t,y) k2 = ? Thanks, /oal

Error building package: LaTeX error when creating PDF version
Hi all I am trying to build an R package, which I have successfully done many times before, but have an error I cannot trace. I hope someone can help me. Solving Simultaneous nonlinear equations
Dear: I am having trouble solving simultaneous nonlinear equations by R. I have been using BBsolve (BB) to do so. Though the function is very strong, still the program doesn't converge. I have tried all (according to my small knowledge) the options described in the help file. Now I am trying to find something else than BBsolve for solving simultaneous nonlinear equations by R. Any idea or

locfit weights not working as expected
Hello! I am having a problem understanding what the weights option in the locfit command of the locfit package is doing. I have written a sample program which illustrates the issue (below). The example involves using bootstrap however, that is not my main goal but it illustrates where my problem lies. As you know, to compute a bootstrap estimate of a particular quantity using a sample size of

To List or Not To List
Dear R Helpers, A few weeks ago I asked for some help on how to accomplish modifications to data in a set of data frames. As part of that request I mentioned that I realized that one way to accomplish my goal was to put the data frames together in a list but that I was looking for a way to do it with data frames and a loop because I "believe the better thing is to work df by df for my

very fast OLS regression?
Dear R experts: I just tried some simple test that told me that hand computing the OLS coefficients is about 3-10 times as fast as using the built-in lm() function. (code included below.) Most of the time, I do not care, because I like the convenience, and I presume some of the time goes into saving a lot of stuff that I may or may not need. But when I do want to learn the properties of an

MGCP error for Cisco 7750 FXO card
Can anyone tell me what MGCP error that I'm getting means? The hardware is a MRP200 in a Cisco 7750 PBX. (Its a FXO blade with 2 slots, first one has a 4 port FXO card and the second has 2 port FXO card. It recognises those correctly, at least to the point of this error.) reshape is re-ordering my variables
Is it an undocumented (at least I missed it if it's documented) feature of the reshape function to do numeric variables followed by character? I ask because that seems to be the case below. > str(rcw) 'data.frame': 23 obs. of 21 variables: $ ICU : int 1 18 17 9 22 19 6 16 25 26 ... $ Q6.RC.1 : chr "SM" "JF" "IW"

chan_capi configuration with AVM C2 card
Hi; I've been asked to take a (remote) look at an Asterisk@home system running asterisk 1.0.9 on Centos 3.5. It's running chan_capi-0.3.5 It has an AVM c2 ISDN card which is plugged into what I believe to be a couple of BT ISDN2e "System Access" (i.e. point to point) connections. We've placed a support call to BT to find out how these lines are actually provisioned, but

calculating memory usage
I am comparing two different algorithms in terms of speed and memory usage. I can calculate the processing time with proc.time() as follows but am not sure how to calculate the memory usage. ptm <- proc.time() x <- rnorm(1000000) proc.time() - ptm I would like to be within R itself since I will test the algorithm several hundred times and in batch mode. So manually looking up

Counterpart for Matlab's 'feval'?
Hi! I've just begun writing a program that searches for the minimum of a function with golden section search. In order to do this in a nice way I need a function that takes a function name and an argument and returns the function value for that argument, i .e just like Matlab's 'feval'. Is there any? Thanks before hand! Best regards, Fredrik Thuring, Codan Insurance A/S

Asterisk 1.6.1.13 and T.38 faxing
Hello everyone. I'm struggling to get T.38 faxing to work in Asterisk 1.6.1.13 with a SIP DID provider here in Brazil (GVT - Vox IP service). Here's my scenario: When faxes arrive by a specific DID, they are routed thru this simple macro: [macro-recebefax] exten => s,1,Set(DB(fax/count)=$[${DB(fax/count)} + 1]) exten => s,n,Set(FAXCOUNT=${DB(fax/count)}) exten =>

strptime(): on Linux system it seems to call system time?
