Re-ordering the order of lattice graphics panels
Dear all I have made some lattice graphs (bwplot(dead ~ treat | group,...). 'group' is a factor with three levels (Artemia larvae, Abalone larvae and Abalone spat), and the result is a graph with three panels corresponding to the levels in 'group', ordered in alphabetical order from bottom to top, as expected. How does one re-order the order in which the levels of

High resolution plots
Is there any possibility to get high resolution plots in a windows xp system? I tried it with the device function png(filename = "c:/r/highresplot%d.png",pointsize=12, res=900) but when I try to set: width = 480, height = 480 or pointsize = 12, the text is not scaled in the same way as the plots. with regards Knut Krueger http://www.biostatistic.de

manual construction of box&whisker plot
Dear useRs, how can I construct a box&whisker plot based on the vector "fivenum"? The challenge I face is as follow: I have a table such as x | fivenum --------------- ... | (.....) ... | (.....) and so forth.... For each observation x I have generated a vector containing the fivenum estimates. The first challenge is to group my fivenum vectors into groups based on a

Summary vs fivenum results for Q3
I've just started using R and am still a neophyte, but I found the following curious result. I'm using the current version of R (2.5.1 (2007-06-27) ). Why are the results for the third quartile different in the output from the summary and fivenum commands? For the following data set 457 514 530 530 538 560 687 745 745 778 786 790 792

legend font
Hi, I'd like to make the text in my legends italic, but I can't figure out how to do so. font=3 doesn't work. Googling brings up the possibility of expression(italic()), which produces italics, but I can't get this to work with my label data, which is a vector of strings: legend(locator(1), legend = levels(factor(label.vector)), col = plotting.colours, pch =plotsym.bw,

Output from as.windrose() in oce package baffles me
I'm having trouble understanding the output from as.windrose(). For one thing, data on a boundary between sectors seem to be left out of the counts. I assume that explains the missing point in the output below (angle 45). Shouldn't one side of each sector interval be open, to include values such as my 45 in the example? Also, why does the angle 180 in my input apparently not result in

R-squared in Logistic Regression
Dear all, How do I make R show the R-squared (deviance explained by the model) in a logistic regression? Below is how I write my syntax. Basically I want to investigate density-dependence in parasitism of larvae. Note that in the end I perform a F-test because the dispersion factor (residual deviance / residual df) is significantly higher than 1. But how do I make R show the

The use of R Commander for beginning students and newbies
Everyone: In the last few months I've noticed an increasing number of questions to this list from students who are new to the use of R and who have limited (in any) local support on R and specifically support for R syntax. My text (http://www.springer.com/statistics/social+sciences+%26+law/book/978-1-4614- 2133-7) from last year was specific to the use of R syntax but given recent

If so I intend to properly cite its use?!?). Regards, Eduardo Esteves ps - Sorry for not explaining the "biological details" of my posting: RNA/DNA is the ratio of RNA content to

Learning R
Dear R helpers, Almost 15 days back I have become member of this very active and wonderful group. So far I have been only raisingĀ  queries and in turn got them solved too and I really thank for the spirit this group member show when it comes to the guidance. I wish to learn R language and I have given 2 months time for this. Can anyone please guide me as how do I begin i.e. from basics to
