Is there any working way to search multiple indexes?
I''m running from the trunk, and hitting road blocks no matter which way I
attempt
to search across multiple indexes.
I tried a MultiSearcher, but I can''t pass a string for the search query
ms.search "iraq"
TypeError: wrong argument type String (expected Data)
So I tried creating a QueryParser to pass, but I can''t get the fields from
the reader

Reworking the Index Constructor
Hey ..
I was thinking about the way I need to use the Ferret::Index::Index Class
and its subclasses .. i find it somehow complex .. I think this can be
done more easily ..
Most of the Time a user needs to open up a index to do queries, the best
way would be to use a IndexReader afaik.
I would suggest to do it that way:
index = Ferret::Index::Index.new( :path =>

MultiSearcher Results Question
If searching multiple indexes with a single searcher is there anyway to
identify which index a resulting doc is stored in?
i1 = Ferret::I.new
i2 = Ferret::I.new
i1 << {:id=>1,:text=>"random stuff"}
i1.commit
reader =
Ferret::Index::IndexReader.new([i1.options[:dir],i2.options[:dir]])
searcher = Ferret::Index::IndexSearcher.new(reader)

missing terms in index causing search errors
I am unable to find results for models when one or more of the terms are
not being indexed.
Lets suppose I index a User on the phrase "Ruby on Rails." If I then
search using User.find_by_contents("Ruby on Rails") I get no results,
since "or" is a common term and does not get indexed. Of course,
User.find_by_contents("Ruby Rails") works just fine.

multi-model search best practices
Hi folks.
If I am indexing ModelA and ModelB and I want to search both of them,
I usually just pick one arbitrarily and use it for #multi_search.
Is there a slicker pattern, regarding from which model to invoke
#multi_search? Can it be invoked directly from the Ferret library?
Has anyone put together some sort of "dummy" search class?
Thanks for any ideas.

Inconsistant Search Results
Hi,
I have this maddening strange bug using acts_as_ferret. If I search for
a given phrase (let''s say "xyz") I get one set of results (lets call
them set A). I search for xyz again and I get set A again. I search for
xyz a third time and I get a different set (set B).
I can keep executing the search query and my result sets continue to
cycle a-a-b-a-a-b-a-a-b.
It''s

ferret / acts_as_ferret multiple server deployment
Has anyone deployed ferret & act_as_ferret to a load balanced multiple
server environment? If so, did you simply use a shared network index?
I have a couple of ideas on how to deploy - but each have shortcomings
and I''m hoping to find out if anyone else has deployed ferret in this
manner. The application is simply load balanced between multiple
servers running the same app for

Sorting by score
Hi I think this is a very easy question but here goes:
I want to sort my results by a boolean field and then by score, I
thought this would be a default configuration but apparently not.
sort_fields = []
sort_fields << Ferret::Search::SortField.new(:sponsored, :reverse =>
:true)
that is my current code, how do iu alter it so that the results are then
sorted by highest score first?

duplicate search results
i''m using Ferret 0.9.0 with acts_as_ferret (the one from svn.jkraemer.net), and
i''m getting duplicate results, as described in this thread:
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/ferret-talk/2005-December/000048.html
is there a way to configure the indexes created by acts_as_ferret to use :key =>
:id, as described in that thread? i''ve poked around in the code, and had

Ferret 0.10 and Fields
Hey ...
I just tried to convert my code to 0.10 .. But i''m currently not sure
how to use fields..
i really like some of the new api.. its leaner and i like the fact that
these strange consts are gone (like
Ferret::Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST) ..
I see that you''re now having Ferret::Index::FieldInfo to describe the
fields of the index.. thats good.. and i now see that

Ferret/AAF Stability?
Hello. I''m the author of DataMapper (http://datamapper.org), and am
trying to choose what Full-Text-Indexing engine/plugin I want to
include by default. I was hoping you guys could help. :-)
Sphinx comes highly recommended, but without live index updates, it
just doesn''t seem practical for most of my work.
I''m most experienced with Solr, but the whole HTTP::Request and

Problems with sorting of search results
Hey ..
maybe someone got a hint for me .. I''ve got a
problem with the sorting of search results ..
strangely enough, the sorting is fine on my mac
development environment, but not okay on my
linux live system.
I got a field in my index called hierarchy. It
contains long strings like:

Sorting/Ordering Search Results
Hello All,
I am having an issue with AAF and sorting results of a search. Right
now, I have results being split onto pages of 10. The results are being
sorted alphabetically, but not across multiple pages - it''s just sorting
the 10 it pulls down on each page. I noticed another post from April
regarding this same issue (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/62993#66934)

conditional boost? friends to come up at top of search...
Hey guys, im trying to get my friends to come up at the top of the act
as ferret search. I would query the whole result set first, then move my
friends to the top, but the thing is, Im paginating my results and use
the offset and limit parameters in the multi_search() function.
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks in advance...
