multiple plots problem
hello, i try to plot 3 graphs which have the same x.axis underneath each other. i'd like the plots to be aligned without margings between the boxes and draw a single x axis beneath the lowest plot. i managed to get the alignment by setting par(mar), but the middle box is stretched and i cant't figure out how to get around this. par(pin) was my guess, but this doesn't do the job

Plot: Distance between tick and tick label on y-axis

Increase space between xlab and X axis tick labels
People, I am using the "las=2" parameter to rotate the labels for the X axis ticks but it means that they are almost touching the "xlab" string. I have been messing around with the "mai" paremeter but that doesn't help - is there some way of increasing the space between xlab and the X axis tick labels? Error in par(split.screens[[n]]) : parameter "i" in "mfg" is out of range
I'm working on my 'oce' package, trying split.screen() instead of par(mfrow). My code is too long to post, and I hope it's ok that I ask this question without doing so. "negative alpha" or custom gradient colors of data dots in scatterplot ?
I know that by setting alpha to for example col = rgb(0, 0, 0, 0.1) it is possible to see how many overlapping is in the plot. But disadvantage of it is that single points are barely visible on the background. So I wonder if there is possible to make setting that single points would be almost black, but with more and more data on the same spot it would get more and more whiteish. Or maybe it is

axis labels in multiple plots
Hi, I'am trying to make a multiple bar plot over a map and I'm having difficulties with the distance between axes labels and the axis. Trying to control this with mgp does not help because it controls both axes simultaneously. For example, with default values (mgp = c(3, 1, 0)) y-axis labels are ok, but x-axis labels are not. Space between axis label and tick labels
I'm writing an publication in two column format and need to shrink some plots. After increasing the axis labels it does not look nice at all. The y-axis label and tick labels almost touch each other and the x-axis tick labels expand into the plot instead of away from it. Is there a better way than "cex" to control the: 1) font size of axis and tick labels 2) font thickness 3)

Survplot, Y-axis in percent
Hi I am a new fan of R after getting mad with the graphical functional in SPSS. I have been able to create a nice looking Kaplan Meyer graph using Survplot function. xyplot tick marks and line thickness
Hello, A made a xyplot using the lattice library in R (latest version). The publisher of our paper has requested: 1. all tick marks should point inwards instead of outwards. 2. shifting ticks to left or right
Hey list, Does anybody knows a command to centre the tick mark labels exactly between the tick points (right shift)? And then to exclude the last tick label on the right? Can someone please explain why the last tick mark on this chart is not showing?
Hi all, I'm trying to log chart but with natural looking tick marks. My specifications are very specific -- it must indicate the lowest number's tick as well as the maximum. I've attached sample code and data for a particular case (and there are a few more like this) where the bottom tickmarks on the chart are not set to where I want them to be and yet they fit in the ylim range.
