Error when adding lines to a plot using the mixed-effect model and metafor package
Hi,
I am a student using R for my final year project, with the metafor package being particularly helpful. I have been following the steps laid out in the manual 'Conducting Meta-analysis in R with the Metafor package' (Viechtbauer, 2010) and applying it to my own data of infected Anopheles mosquitoes across Africa.
In particular, I am attempting to apply a mixed-effect model to my data

Main-effect of categorical variables in meta-analysis (metafor)
Dear R-experts!
In a meta-analysis (metafor) I would like to assess the effect of two
categorical covariates (A & B) whereas they both have 4 levels.
Is my understanding correct that this would require to dummy-code (0,1) each
level of each covariate (A & B)?
However I am interested in the main-effects and the interaction of these two
covariates and the dummy-coding would only allow to

dummy encoding in metafor
Hi,
I am quite new to R and in need of some advice. I am trying to conduct a meta regression over a some studies with about 7 mod variables which I have to dummy encode.
I have found the following piece of code in the manual for the metafor library:
### manual dummy coding of the allocation factor
alloc.random <- ifelse(dat$alloc == "random", 1, 0)
alloc.alternate <-

AEM package
I'm trying to do AEM eigenfunctions, but I have a different number of points into each reservoir (e.g.: reservoir 1-4 points, reservoir 2-6 points, reservoir 3-2 points....). Can someone help me?Besides this in the Legendre's book exemple in the part:>length.edge<-vector(length=nrow(edges.b))>for (i in 1:nrow(edges.b)){length.edge[i]<-D1.mat[edges.b[i,1], edges.b[i,2]]}There is

Meta-analysis of test statistics in "metafor" package?
Hi -
I am conducting a meta-analysis and I have a matrix of f-statistics, Ns and
dfs from a series of studies that tested for an interaction in a 2x2 anova.
I'd like to test whether the 2x2 interaction is significant in the
aggregate.
Similarly, I have a matrix of chi-square statistics that I'd like to
meta-analyze.
How can I input these test statistics into the "metafor"

meta-analysis normal quantile plot metafor
Hello,
I once used the metawin software to perform a meta-analysis (see
metawinsoft, Rosenberg et al.) and produced normal qqplot to test for
a potential bias in the dataset.
I now want to re-use the same dataset with the package metafor by W.
Viechtbauer (great package btw).
I run the qqnorm.rma.uni function. I use standardized effect sizes as
in metawin.
QQplot generated with metafor differs

metafor
I had found the author's (Wolfgang Viechtbauer) earlier meta-analytic code in R, MiMa, useful. so I have been exploring metafor using an example dataset from MiMa. metafor provides a lot more. However, MiMa provided parameter estimates, standard errors, z values, etc. for individual moderators in the meta-analysis, but I don't see how to obtain these from metafor. Have you any help

Metafor vs Meta vs Spreadsheet: wrong numbers
Hello,
I experimented the Metafor and Meta packages in the scope of replacing Excel
for meta-analysis. I performed the first working example provided in Michael
Borenstein's book "Introduction to Meta-Analysis" with Excel, Metafor and Meta.
The numbers given by my spreadsheet, which I validated from Borenstein's book,
conrespond quite closely to those given by Meta, but

New Meta-Analysis Package (metafor)
A new package is now available via CRAN, called metafor.
The metafor package consists of a collection of functions for conducting meta-analyses in R. Fixed- and random-effects models (with and without moderators) can be fitted via the general linear (mixed-effects) model. For 2x2 table data, the Mantel-Haenszel and Peto's method are also implemented. The package also provides various plot

using metafor for meta-analysis of before-after studies
Greetings,
I wish to conduct a meta-analysis for which the outcome is a continuous
variable measured on the same individuals before and after an intervention.
Hence, the comparison is not made between two groups, but within groups, at
diffrent times.
Each study reports the mean outcome and SD before the intervention and the
mean outcome and SD after the intervention. While p-values for

Metafor package: Including multiple (categorical) predictors
Dear Metafor users,
I''d like to test a model with 2 continuous and 2 categorical moderators in a meta regression. One categorical parameter has 2 levels and the other has 4 levels. If I understand correctly, when I include all moderators in the model, Metafor returns main effects of the continuous parameters and contrasts of each level of categorical moderators with the intercept (which

metafor - multivariate analysis
Dear Metafor users, I'm conducting a metaanalysis of prevalence of a particular behaviour based on someone elses' code. I've been labouring under the impression that this:
summary(rma.1<-rma(yi,vi,mods=cbind(approxmeanage,interviewmethodcode),data=mal,method="DL",knha=F,weighted=F,intercept=T))
is doing the multivariate analysis that i want, but have read that

metafor: including phylogenetic non-independence among species?
Hello, Is it possible to include information about phylogenetic relatedness
among species (when species are replicates for each study within a
meta-analysis) in a meta-anlaysis in the metafor package?
Alternatively, I wonder if the method f Lajeunesse 2009 American Naturalist
has been adopted in R in any fashion?
Thanks, Scott Chamberlain

metafor: weights computation in Mantel-Haenszel method
Dear R users,
In metafor 1.6-0, the Mantel-Haenszel method is implemented by the rma.mh() function. I have observed that the sum of the weights computed by weights(x) doesn't add to 100% when x is an object of class rma.mh. The consequences of this fact can be clearly seen when a forest diagram is drawn with forest(x), which calls weights(x) (or more precisely, the method weights.rma.mh()
