Dear R-users, I'm writing a program that constructs a dataset. I wish to save the dataset to a file. Here's a very simple example of what I'm trying to do function(x=peter){ y <- x/2 write.csv(y, file = "...\x") } The problem is that I want to name the dataset as whatever the name of the input is. In this case peter. How do I do this? Thank you in advance. Kristian

Merging dataframe with list
I often read SPSS system files (*.sav) into R using the 'read.spss' function from the 'foreign' library. To retain all the meta data, i.e. 'variable labels', I call the function like this: test.sav <- read.spss('http://www.cdc.gov/healthyYouth/shpps/2006/spss/envs2006.sav', to.data.frame=FALSE, use.value.labels=TRUE ) This returns a list, which is fine.

Setting Values of Elements in a Dataframe
Dear All, I am experiencing some problems in resetting the values of some selected elements in a dataframe. Consider d<-seq(-1,1,length=16) dim(d)<-c(4,4) d<-as.data.frame(d) sel_pos<-which(d>0, arr.ind=TRUE) d[sel_pos]<- -9 which returns the error Error in `[<-.data.frame`(`*tmp*`, sel_pos, value = -9) : only logical matrix subscripts are allowed in replacement

number of items to replace is not a multiple of replacement length
Hey all, I am writing a function in which I will have a matrix of 4 columns and a variable amount of rows. The first to columns will always contain be of the Character type, the third and fourth columns can be a variation of data types, usually characters and integers, but sometimes lists or matrices.
