A question on dummy variable
Dear all, I would like to ask one question related to statistics, for
specifically on defining dummy variables. As of now, I have come across 3
different kind of dummy variables (assuming I am working with Seasonal
dummy, and number of season is 4):
> dummy1 <- diag(4)
> for(i in 1:3) dummy1 <- rbind(dummy1, diag(4))

Strange behaviour in plot and points?
Hello R-users
I was puzzled by some strange results of an analysis and I found out what is
for me a strange behaviour (I won't dare to say a bug) in both plot and
points (and I suspect lines and other kind of lower level plots). If you try
the following code:
> data<-data.frame(dummy1=c(1:10),dummy2=c(1:10))
> plot(data$dummy1,data$dummy3)

predicting from segmented regression
Hello
I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the output of "segmented()"
with a new set of predictor values.
Using the example of the help file:
??set.seed(12)
xx<-1:100
zz<-runif(100)
yy<-2+1.5*pmax(xx-35,0)-1.5*pmax(xx-70,0)+15*pmax(zz-.5,0)+rnorm(100,0,2)
dati<-data.frame(x=xx,y=yy,z=zz)
out.lm<-lm(y~x,data=dati)

Imputation using Pan in R
Hi,
I've tried to run the multiple imputation for longitudinal data using Pan in
R.
The trimmed data consist 10 individuals across 4 time points.
Following the example in panex.R, I imputated the model with one y variable
and only random intercept.
It worked well.
The next step for me is to imputate a model with one y variable and both
random intercept and slope.
The program ran well, but

Some Ruby code help?
Hi,
This isn''t related to Rails itself, but rather to Ruby. I''m trying to
import a file into a database. The fields are separated by a ''|''.
Everything seems to work fine, but after 64 rows are inserted, it starts
mangling the field values. Would you take a look at the following code?
require ''mysql''

[LLVMdev] Why a function pointer field in a LLVM IR struct is replaced by {}*?
Dear LLVM developers,
My name is Ben Niu and I am a Ph.D. student at Lehigh University. I
compiled the MUSL C library using Clang 3.3, and dumped the generated LLVM
IR files. I found that the MUSL-defined FILE struct (aliasing __FILE_s)
struct __FILE_s {
unsigned flags;
unsigned char *rpos, *rend;
int (*close)(FILE *);
unsigned char *wend, *wpos;
unsigned char *mustbezero_1;

easy way of paste
Hello,
Is there a better way to use paste such as:
a = paste(colnames(list.indep)[1],colnames(list.indep)[2],colnames(list.indep)[3],colnames(list.indep)[4],colnames(list.indep)[5],sep="+")
> a
[1] "aa+dummy1+dummy2+bb+cc"
I tried
a = paste(colnames(list.indep)[1:5],sep="+")

Loop splitting as a special case of unswitch
For the example code below,
int L = M + 10;
for (k = 1 ; k <=L; k++) {
dummy();
if (k < M)
dummy2();
}
, we can split the loop into two parts like :
for (k = 1 ; k != M; k++) {
dummy();
dummy2();
}
for (; k <=L; k++) {
dummy();
}
By splitting the loop, we can remove the conditional block in the loop and indirectly increase vectorization

wbinfo and usernames with apostrophes - bug?
Hi all,
I've come across this issue today, and I think it might be a bug (or a
feature ;) ). I've been testing Samba 3 on Debian Stable using the Samba
packages from backports.org, which is says is version 3.0.2a.
I've been testing Samba as a storage server in our NT4 Domain and have
been playing with a bash script to set up user directories and
permissions. Samba is set up with

dummy interface shenanigans - CentOS6

I have a situation where I need to rename a dummy interface on my system.
I have a total of 3 dummy interfaces:

I've been doing some puppet testing in a vbox VM to get this all
sorted out to deploy to a group of boxes. Every time I reboot my VM,
it comes up WITHOUT adummy0, but I notice

.C-calls
Dear all,
(sorry I got the wrong button for subscribing a minute ago)
At the moment I'm writing on a package for random field
simulation that I'd like to make publically availabe
in near future.
To this end I've asked Martin Maechler to have a look
at my R-code. He was very surprised about how
I perform the ".C"-calls, and encouraged me to
make this request for comments.

anova.gls from nlme on multiple arguments within a function fails
Dear All --
I am trying to use within a little table producing code an anova
comparison of two gls fitted objects, contained in a list of such
object, obtained using nlme function gls.
The anova procedure fails to locate the second of the objects.
The following code, borrowed from the help page of anova.gls,
exemplifies:

[PATCH v4 0/3] btrfs: use CLEANUP_FREE_STRING_LIST for list free
As Pino's comment, we should take advantage of
macro CLEANUP_FREE_STRING_LIST
v4: remove some redundant strdup
v3: fix test case failure
v2: properly initialize lines

Predict
When I callculate a linear model, then I can compute via confint the
confidencial intervals. the interval level can be chosen. as result, I get
the parameter of the model according to the interval level.
On the other hand, I can compute the prediction-values for my model as well
with predict(object, type=c("response") etc.). Here I have also the
possibility to chose a level for the
