editing import data, strings
Regards.
I'm a beginner in programing, so I have a basic question for you.
If someone could help me please..
I want to create a function, which will be able to export files from excel.
I tried with
a <- read.csv(file, sep =",", as.is = TRUE, row.names = 1, header = TRUE),
.. but instead of numbers, it gives me strings for example: "299,311".
I can handle this string

Re ading and Creating Shape Files
Hello R Community,
I have imported a dataset which contain X Y coordinates and would like to
recreate a shape file after some data analysis. What i have done is to
import some taxlot data and join them based on some criteria. I want to
check to see how well the joining went by reviewing the results in GIS.
A couple things. I cant seem to import a shape file correctly using the

Plotting a kriging on a map
Hi list,
Well, this time I’ve a doubt with mapping generation.
I was already able to read and plot shapefiles, plot point on this map. All
this without any problems, but now I want to do something that I think, only
Golden Software Surfer is capable of.
I would like to plot a kriging result on the existing map (map script
below). Well I looked for on the net, but I was not able to be sure of

North Arrow (.png file) on a Map
Hi list.
I would like to know how do I insert a North arrow, stored as a png file in
my computer, in a map? I found lots of post asking similar things, one of
them mentioned the pixmap package. The map was done using map() and
shapefiles (the code is below). I’m using the pixmap () and addlogo()
functions. Well I can import the png with pixmap() function (I guess, once
there’s no error message),

[spatstat] Convert shapefile to pixel image
Dear all,
I am currently working with the spatstat package, using windows and pixel images.
First:
My aim is to transform a shapefile (see attached) into a pixel image.
My idea is to start transforming the shapefile into a Spatial Polygon file:
x <- readShapeSpatial("200001441.shp")
y <- as(x, "SpatialPolygons")
z <- as.owin(y)
Given z, I want to identify each

SpatialPolygonsDataFrame holes problem
I have obtained shapefiles for Indian states from here:
http://www.maptell.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=159&func=fileinfo&filecatid=115&parent=category
Problem: I want to extract centroid coordinates for each State, but there is some coding problem with the shapefiles that prevents this.
#Code:

Creating a map with central Asian countries
Dear all,
I am trying to create a map for central asian countries(Kazakhstan,
Uzbekstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenstan, and Tajikstan). I tried google for
shapefiles and Rdata files of central asia, but I can't seem to find them.
There is only a world map and individual maps for each countries. If I use
individual maps to create this map, how do I put them on a same graphic with
different colours?

plot single part of the country using gadm map
Dear all,
in GADM map there are three levels (nation, province and precinct) for each
country of the world but for all of them you are never able to plot only one
part of a chosen country.
To be sure, I am trying to plot only one region of “Italy” and colour the
different precincts in it. So far I am able to colour only the part of my
interest but the programme still plot the whole country.

SpatialPolygonsDataFrame to map conversion?
Dear list,
I'd like to use the function smooth.map{maps} to smooth out aggregated
spatial data. The first argument to this function must be a map object.
I have a shape file which I read with readShapeSpatial{maptools} and I got
an object of class "SpatialPolygonsDataFrame".
Is it possible to create a map object from a SpatialPolygonsDataFrame
object? Alternatively, is there any

Getting choropleth map intervals correct
Hello all,
Working on mapping some probabilities using R to a geographic unit called a
TAZ. The below data will work but you will have to set your directory for
the shape file. Never did this before so hopefully this works. ResProbs is
just supposed to be a value between 0-1, sorry if that more complicated than
it needed to be.
TazFile <- "*directory*/TAZ.shp"

khat and included polygons
Dear list,
I have a question regarding the included polygon in the khat function of the splancs library defining the area where points appear.
I have not only one simple polygon included, my map includes several islands.
I read my map which was a shape file by readShapeSpatial of the maptools library.
Then I split up the SpatialPolygonsDataFrame into the included polygons by

Plotting data on a US County Map
Hi,
I have a data frame listing US counties and a quantity ("number") per county
and I have a shapefile of the US with county ID's. I would like to plot the
"number" variable on a map (in the shapefile) using a color range per county
(e.g. white = min(number) = 2, black = max(number) = 15). Can anyone help me
actually plotting the data on the map? This is how far I got.

Creating the Firefox Download Analytics Map in R
By any chance has anyone put together the R code for reproducing the Firefox Downloads Analytics Map in R?
Here is a link to an example:
http://www.knitwareblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/firefox-3-download-map.jpg
I'll try to track down the inputs, but I am interested in putting the code to produce this or something similar.
Any hints about the best packages, or references to R Blog
