'mgcv' package, problem with predicting binomial (logit) data
Dear R-help list,
I?m using the mgcv package to plot predictions based on the gam function.
I predict the chance of being a (frequent) participant at theater plays vs.
not being a participant by age.
Because my outcome variable is dichotomous, I use the binomial family with
logit link function.
Dataset in attachment, code to read it in R:
data <- read.spss("pas_r.sav")
attach(data)

Problem with filenames with commas in them
This is a continuation of my previous problem where cp could copy
files whereas rsync couldn't. It turns out that the problem is with
files which have commas in their names, rsync can write the initial
version of the file but it can't check/rewrite them.
Here is the error I get from rsync when trying to overwrite the files

Hi mathias, thanks for taking time to see this issue.
In my case is not a AD, is still a NT4 style.
I will try the option, thanks.

Voicemail IMAP
I know some of this doesn't belong on this list, but I am just
including it for problem history.
I am trying to setup IMAP Voicemail with our email server.
We are using a non-standards based groupware server called FirstClass.
The server has some built in support for IMAP.
My problem seems to be that the authuser flag is not supported.
When I use mtest in the imap toolkit to connect to

superimposing histograms con't [Broadcast]
I wrote some code to do this. It only works with 2 groups (that's all I
needed), but could probably be generalized. It got my graph made, and I
haven't needed a graph like this one again, so I never went back to really
clean it up.
It works by first plotting both sets of rectangles, then going back over the
ones that had the first bar totally covered by the second.
Hope this helps,

superimposing histograms con't
Earlier, I posted the following question:
I want to superimpose histograms from three populations onto the same graph,
changing the shading of the bars for each population. After consulting the
help files and the archives I cannot find out how to do this (seemly)
simple graph. To be clear, I want
- a single x axis (from -3 to 18)
- three groups of bars forming the histograms of each population

superimposing graphs
Dear People,
I have a data set of data x from a probability distribution, and I have a
function, mydensity, of the pdf of that distribution.
I'm asking for help in superimposing the histogram of x and the plot of
mydensity.
In the function below, I call truehist and curve, but these are plotted in
different figures.
I'd like them to be plotted on the same figure, and to use common

Issue with hard links, please help!
Hello,
Sometimes when creating hard links to the rsync destination directory,
it seems like the new directory (created from the cp -al command) ends
up with all the data. This causes a problem in the sense that if the
rsync destination directory had 21GB, after the cp -al command, it ends
up having only 8mb, then the rsync source directory determines that it
now requires 21.98GB to update the

shared folder in the samba domain, can't be access on trusting domain users
Hi,
Anybody got experienced that the shared folder (in SAMBAAD domain) can't be
accessible on the trusting domain (TESTHV).
Background: SAMBAAD has one-way trust with TESTHV. TESTHV users can
login in the SAMBAAD connected machines. Currently using Version 4.9.0rc5.
It's working fine if the SAMBAAD users access with it, but users in TESTHV
could not access with it even the permission

cubic spline smoothers with heterogeneous variances
Hello. I have data (plant weights over time) that are non-linear and in
which the variance increases over time. I have to estimate the first
derivatives of plant weight given time (i.e. growth rate) and their se,
using a regression smoother, and I have been considering cubic spline
smoothers. However, I do not know if this can be done given that the error
variance would increase over time.

retitle 925358 qemu-user-static: mis-emulates something to do with process/signal handling (m68k, s390x, ?)
affects 925358 klibc-dev
thanks
This still happens. (And retitling because I almost filed a bug
against klibc again? oops?)

Hi Alberto,
No idea about your issue as I'm playing with Samba to build AD only, I can
only tell you that I did tested on my Samba AD DC and I can use upper,
lower or mixed case in user names:

Difference amongst spline smoothers
Dear all,
Anybody knows about the difference amongst various spline smoothers, specifically in R, 'bs' (by default a cubic spline), 'ns', smooth.spline with roughness penalty along with many other smoothers? I've consulted serveral books like 'S-plus Guide to Statistics' by Mathsoft, Ripley and Venables' Splus book and Eubank's Spline Smoothing, but I was still
