number of decimal places in a number?
Dear R users, I need a function that gets a number and returns its number of actual decimal places. For example f(3.14) should return 2, f(3.142) should return 3, f(3.1400) should also return 2 and so on. Is such function already available in R? If not, could you give me a hint how to achieve that? Many thanks in advance. -----------------------------------------------------------------

Overimposing one map in ssplot onto another
Hello! I have 2 maps - both created in ssplot and both identical in terms of outline. Is there any way to superimpose Map1 (which has black borders between Canadian provinces) onto Map2 (which is also a map of Canada)? Thanks a lot for your hints! Dimitri ### A. Reading in Canada data at the province and then at the county level: library(raster) getData('ISO3') # Canada's code is

ahcich reset -> cannot mount zfs root in 9.1-PRE
Hi all, Trying to upgrade a system from 9.0-RELEASE to 9.1-PRE from yesterday on my machine (GEOM+ZFS mirror setup on ada[01]p3), the new kernel becomes unable to mount root... The only way to recover is to boot from 9.0 kernel. The disks were already named ada[01] in 9.0, so I suspect nothing there... I tried - disabling AHCI in bios (no change seen) - change cables, check PSU, test disks

Problem detecting Sil3124 SATA controllers off of Sandy Bridge northbridge-connected PCIe slots
Hi, We're having some trouble with detection of a couple of Sil3124 SATA controller cards on newer motherboard and processor combos. Specifically, we're running a Supermicro X9SCM-F motherboard (latest BIOS) and Intel E3-1220v2 CPU. What we're seeing: - Syba Sil3124 PCIe cards are only being detected when installed in PCIe Slot 4 -- The motherboard documentation shows that this

Can't get if_txp(4) to attach to a 3CR990B-TXM NIC
Good morning, I'm having a bit of an issue getting a 3CR990B-TXM NIC detected and usable. Just wondering if anyone knows of any issues with this NIC chipset and/or with the motherboard chipset. The motherboard is a Biostar GeForce 6100 AM2 using an nVidia nForce 410 chipset and nVidia GeForce 6100 vide chipset. I've tried FreeBSD 6.1, 6.2, 6-STABLE (from Wed), and 7-CURRENT (from

Well this is new. I haven't a clue what Dell has done on this R620, but this popped up today after I did a boat load of BIOS updates and tried to install stable/9 from our yahoo tree. If anyone sees the obvious solution here, I'd love to figure it out. found-> vendor=0x14e4, dev=0x165f, revid=0x00 domain=0, bus=2, slot=0, func=1 class=02-00-00, hdrtype=0x00, mfdev=1

Error invalid graphics state using text()
I'm using ssplot for drawing a map of Austria and colour the nine provinces regarding their share of employment. Now I wanted to add the figures in each province and failed miserably. Using the locator() and text() function caused the error message "invalid graphics state". I try to show you what I have done below, maybe you can find a general fault in my codes. I know that it's

[Fwd: Re: [Fwd: Re: Still ATAPICAM Lockup/Slowdown]]
Thomas, Have spoken to Soren, from my bootlog he believes that the problem is in atapicam causing the system to lock up. He is happy to answer some questions but doesnt have time to delve into atapicam himself. Did you author atapicam, I have seen your name on the sourcecode, can you help me further? Whats next? Thanks Adam. -------------- next part -------------- An embedded message was

Reset audio controller w/o rebooting?
As I mentioned on a thread about flash-plugin a few days ago, I'm having trouble with my sound device getting "stuck" and thereby causing problems for anything that accesses it, like video playback. Rebooting the machine "fixes" it for a while, but it's unpredictable for how long -- sometimes months go by without it recurring, sometimes it happens every couple of days.

CentOS 3 - I/O performance with Promise HW RAID
(Suggestions for other forums in which to post this question are welcome.) We have CentOS 3.6 x86_64 running on a server with dual 2.2GHz Opterons and a Promise UltraTrak RM8000 connected via an Adaptec SCSI card. We are seeing what seems to be gradual I/O performance degradation over time; it seems to be OK for up to about 90 days, but not long after that both CPUs end up continuously spending
