packaging my function
Dear all,
I write to you because there seems to be something I'm just not 'getting' in
the way R lets you construct a new package. Google and this mailing list's
archive don't seem to have the answer to my specific case so I signed up and
mailed the question myself.
So I've written this function that I wan't to make a package out of. Here is
what I've done so far:

use keep state(strict) to mitigate tcp issues?
Hi,
When deploying a BSD with IPF in at the network perimeter
and using rules like these:
pass in .. proto tcp ... keep state(strict)
it's possible to refuse tcp packets which arrive out of order.
This would increase the difficulty doing blind attack resets and blind
data injection attack, cause then you'd have to "guess" the exact expected
number. Checpoint has a similar

FreeBSD 5.4 SMP kernels now available via FreeBSD Update
It sounds like the SMP kernel I provided for FreeBSD 5.3 was quite
popular, so I've started building an SMP kernel for FreeBSD 5.4 as
well, in addition to the usual GENERIC kernel. To take advantage
of this on your FreeBSD 5.4 SMP system, run the following commands
as root:
# touch /boot/kernel/SMP
# freebsd-update fetch
# freebsd-update install
# echo 'bootfile="SMP"'

simple data transformation question
Hi all,
I have a (hopefully) simple newbie-level question.
# I have data like this:
dtf <- data.frame(read.table(textConnection("var value

company 91117.0
blaah 91.1
etc 11

var value.1 value.2
company 9887.1 91117.0

etc 11 97111

fbsd not vulnerable to recent bind issues?
Hi,
Recently some security issues with bind have come up.
NetBSD patched it's version of 9.3.0:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2005/01/27/0009.html
Is the version in RELENG_5 not affected?

Bye,
Mipam.

[LLVMdev] More DIFactory questions - still stumped
I hate to be a nag, but after several days of working on this I am still
utterly stumped.
Let me recap the situation as it currently stands: I'm trying to write code
that generates DWARF debugging information for my compiler using DIFactory
and friends. Unfortunately the information I am generating appears to be
invalid, but I can't figure out the cause.
Based on the advice in the

Hi Talin,
The only difference from what I'm doing is that I only export debug
symbols in definitions, not declarations. I may be doing wrong,
though, for multi-file compilation (haven't tested

[LLVMdev] More DIFactory questions
Here are some issues that I am unclear about. What would be great is if the
answers could be incorporated into the comments and documentation for
DIFactory and DebugInfo.h:
1) What types of DIScope are valid arguments for DebugLoc::get()? The method
takes an MDNode* argument, so looking at the function signature is no help.
For example, DIFile is a subtype of DIScope, however looking

Dealing with Application error (Rails) in production
Hi all,
Week 2 working with Ruby on Rails... I have a working app in development
that is now throwing a generic, "Application error (Rails)" message in
production.
How do I deal with this so I can find more information about why the
error is being thrown in production, but not in development?
Thanks!

save in for loop
Dear users,
My problem concerns save() within a for loop.
Here is my code:
for (i in 1:4) {
temp <- data.frame(a=(i+1):(i+10), b=LETTERS[(i+1):(i+10)])
filename <- paste("file", i, sep="")
assign(filename, temp)
save(filename, file=paste(filename, ".rda", sep=""))
}
As you can see, save() doesn't work as I would like: (1) the object

old weird error message
Dear users,
I have a weird questions. A friend of mine, some years ago, supposedly
trying to access help files without Internet connection, got something
like this error message:
"The Pythia is not available, please go to Delphi"
When I've heard about it, I found it very funny and I'd like to be able
to get it. Does anyone of you know how to get this error message again?

HI
I'm a student in chemical engineering, and i have to implement an algoritm about FIVE PARAMETERS INTERPOLATION for a calibration curve (dose, optical density)
y = a + (c - a) /(1+ e[-b(x-m])
where
x = ln(analyte dose + 1)
y = the optical absorbance data
a = the curves top asymptote
b = the slope of the curve
c = the curves bottom asymptote
m = the curve X intercept

importing data
Dear All,
Sorry for asking a newbie question. I want to ask how to import 1000
datasets whose file names are labelled from data1.dat to data1000.dat into
R so that they are named M[1, , ] to M[1000, , ] accordingly. Thank you
very much.
Best Regards,

then nothing.
Have I downloaded 2.10.1 incorrectly (=forgot to tick some box for
