Wine beta hangs, Requires reboot of Linux
I reported earlier that I was getting a lot of error messages out of Wine running Family Tree Maker. As requested I updated to the beta version of Wine, but since doing so nobody has responded with any followup.
I now find that after running FTM for a long period of time that Wine hangs up. This suggests to me that there is a memory leak in the beta version. When I terminate the application,

Error building package: LaTeX error when creating PDF version
Hi all
I am trying to build an R package, which I have successfully done many times before, but have an error I cannot trace. I hope someone can help me.
Here's is some edited output (full output below if it is useful):

very fast OLS regression?
Dear R experts:
I just tried some simple test that told me that hand computing the OLS
coefficients is about 3-10 times as fast as using the built-in lm()
function. (code included below.) Most of the time, I do not care,
because I like the convenience, and I presume some of the time goes
into saving a lot of stuff that I may or may not need. But when I do
want to learn the properties of an

Odd issue with custom udev rule at boot
Hi All,
I've written a custom udev rule to change the permissions of /dev/ttyS* but it doesn't seem to be working at boot up. If I run
/sbin/udevcontrol reload_rules; udevtrigger
The rules are parsed, applied and the permissions are then correct but why is it not doing so at boot? The file in questions I've called /etc/udev/rules.d/49-udev-override.rules and it contains

To List or Not To List
Dear R Helpers,
A few weeks ago I asked for some help on how to accomplish modifications
to data in a set of data frames. As part of that request I mentioned that
I realized that one way to accomplish my goal was to put the data frames
together in a list but that I was looking for a way to do it with data
frames and a loop because I "believe the better thing is to work df by df

the "union" of several data frame rows
Hi,
I have a question about how to obtain the union of several data frame
rows. I'm trying to create a common key for several tests composed of
different items. Here is a small scale version of the problem. These
are keys for 4 different tests, not all mutually exclusive:
id q1 q2 q3 q4 q5 q6

3 A D B
4 C D B D

calculating memory usage
I am comparing two different algorithms in terms of speed and memory
usage. I can calculate the processing time with proc.time() as follows
but am not sure how to calculate the memory usage.
ptm <- proc.time()
x <- rnorm(1000000)
proc.time() - ptm
I would like to be within R itself since I will test the algorithm
several hundred times and in batch mode. So manually looking up

strptime(): on Linux system it seems to call system time?
[I am herewith re-posting this message on R-devel, as it seems to be the
most appropriate mailing list for this issue.]
Dear List,
>From what I understand, strptime() simply converts from one class
representation to another; i.e., from character to POSIXct/POSIXlt.
One strange feature of this command running on Linux is that there are
repeated calls to system time (as was revealed

Buying Vorbis Music
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)
Hello,
I don't know if you knew that there's a russian site where you can buy your
music in Ogg Vorbis.
There are many albums where you can decide what Codec (MP3, AAC, WMA, Vorbis,
MP+) and Bitrate (or quality for Ogg) should be used to encode and download the
files encoded specifically for you.
The prices are somewhat low.

choose() function returning anomalous results (zero instead of one)
Hello,
(Apologies for length, wanted to get all the relevant detail in that I know
of).
I've been having a lot of trouble with some code for an inventory analysis
problem I was doing, and finally came to the conclusion that it appears
that choose() is returning incorrect values. Specifically:

sparse matrix, rnorm, malloc
Hi,
I'm Sorry for any cross-posting. I've reviewed the archives and could
not find an exact answer to my question below.
I'm trying to generate very large sparse matrices (< 1% non-zero
entries per row). I have a sparse matrix function below which works
well until the row/col count exceeds 10,000. This is being run on a
machine with 32G memory:

[LLVMdev] Calling a function with bad signature, possible bug.
Hello,
I'm having troubles with writing a pass. In my pass I've have created a function that has two parameters - both of type i8*. Initially I wrote this function in C, that I translated it into IR, and then by using llc -march=cpp I got it's implementation in cpp code that actually inserts IR instructions. Then, I inserted this cpp code in my pass.
And in some places of a program

Newbie:Family Tree Maker 2009 will not execute-Ubuntu Hardy
I'm new to linux so be patient. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy and have Wine 1.1.5 installed. After installing Family Tree Maker 2009 successfully, it will not execute. The screen comes up like it is going to start and says the database needs to be compacted and then the screen fades away.
I decided to run FTM 2009 from the terminal and see what is happening. Obviously a lot of things.

[LLVMdev] Queries regarding function's arguments data type
Hi all,
I am working on my Master's project in security and I am trying to iterate
over the argument list of the function. Basically I need to do following
things :
1. Check data type of each argument of the argument list of the function.
2. Based on its data type like character array or integer array, pointer,
int, char, take different action.
3. I have added following code to check its
