Sweave resource leak: leftover temp files (PR#7999)
This is great. Thank you for your help, but let me make sure I fully understand. Here is the looping file I use to subset the data frame, create a tex file, and Sweave it. This results in N number of tex files where N is equal to the number of rows in the data frame. list <- unique(wide$stuid) master = "master.tex" for (i in list){ tmp1 <- subset(wide, stuid==i) tmp2

Tempfile error
Dear List: I am encountering an error that I can't resolve. I'm looping through rows of a dataframe to generate individual tex files using Sweave. At random points along the way, I encounter the following error Error in file() : cannot find unused tempfile name At which point Sweave halts. There isn't a logical pattern that I can identify in terms of why the program stops at

scales argument in bwplot (lattice)
Suppose I have data such as the following set.seed(12345) tmp <- data.frame(var1 = rnorm(100), var2 = rnorm(100), var3=rnorm(100, 10, 30)) tmp1 <- data.frame(vars = with(tmp, c(var1, var2, var3)), type = gl(3, 100)) var3 is on a different scale, but I create the following plot, which looks terrible as a result bwplot(~ vars|type, tmp1, layout = c(1,3), ) Of course, I can

Function Arguments
Hello, I am trying to wrap some code that I repeatedly use into a function for efficiency. The following is a toy example simply to illustrate the problem. foobar.fun<-function(data,idvar,dv){ id.list<-unique(idvar) result<-numeric(0) for (i in id.list){ tmp1<-subset(data, idvar == i) result[i]<-mean(get("tmp1")[[dv]]) } return(result) } The

Broken links on CRAN
Dear List: When I click on the link to download a reference manual for a package on cran, I get an error message that the file is damaged and could not be repaired. I randomly chose various packages and the same error message appears. Are the links actually broken? I have also restarted my machine and closed and re-opened acrobat. I am using Windows XP, Acrobat Professional 6.0.0.5, and

mapping one redundant index to another redundant index
Dear R users, I have a simple problem I cannot solve, but I sure you can help. I have two vector, let say > tmp1 <- c("a", "a", "b", "c") > tmp2 <- c("a", "a", "b", "c", "c", "d") and I want to create a matrix of two column for which I have all the combinations of the same character,

Sort problem in merge()
Hello! I am merging two datasets and I have encountered a problem with sort. Can someone please point me to my error. Here is the example. ## I have dataframes, first one with factor and second one with factor ## and integer > tmp1 <- data.frame(col1 = factor(c("A", "A", "C", "C", "0", "0"))) > tmp2 <- data.frame(col1 =

Multilevel Analyses in R
I am new to R and would like to get some practice analyzing multilevel data. I wonder if anyone can point me to a sample data set and command lines that I might replicate for a sample session. I would then compare my output with HLM output. Any help is appreciated. ------ Harold C. Doran Director of Research and Evaluation New American Schools 675 N. An iterative function
Dear all, The function f() below is a function of m1 and m2, both of which are matrices with 3 rows. The function works sequentially one row after another. So altogether there are three stages. I am trying to update the coding to write a generic function that will work for arbitrary k stages. I am hoping to get some suggestion and help. Thanks so much! Hanna ##x, y are two

isoMDS
Dear List: I have a question regarding an MDS procedure that I am accustomed to using. I have searched around the archives a bit and the help doc and still need a little assistance. The package isoMDS is what I need to perform the non-metric scaling, but I am working with similarity matrices, not dissimilarities. The question may end up being resolved simply. Here is a bit of substantive

tapply, data.frame problem
Hi R-users, I'm quite new to R and trying to learn the basics. I have a following problem concerning the convertion of array object into data frame. I have made following data sets tmp1 <- rnorm(100) tmp2 <- gl(10,2,length=100) tmp3 <- as.data.frame(cbind(tmp1,tmp2)) tmp3.sum <- tapply(tmp3$tmp1,tmp3$tmp2,sum) tmp3.sum <- as.data.frame(tapply(tmp1,tmp2,sum)) and I want the

[LLVMdev] Proposal to disable some of DAG combine optimizations
Some of the optimizations that the first DAG combine performs is counter productive for our 8-bit target. For example in: // I dropped the types because they are irrelevant. // Excuse me for changing the syntax... store %tmp1, %var %tmp2 = load %var %tmp4 = add %tmp3, %tmp2 Since load is the only user of var and since var has just be stored to, it assumes that %tmp1 is alive and it goes ahead

I found a bug in the expansion code for SUB going back to at least LLVM 2.6 and still shows up in trunk. case ISD::SUB: { EVT VT = Node->getValueType(0); assert(TLI.isOperationLegalOrCustom(ISD::ADD, VT) && TLI.isOperationLegalOrCustom(ISD::XOR, VT) && "Don't know how to expand this subtraction!"); Tmp1 = DAG.getNode(ISD::XOR, dl,

Basic vector operations was: Function to approximate complex integral
Dear List I apologize for the multiple postings. After being in the weeds on this problem for a while I think my original post may have been a little cryptic. I think I can be clearer. Essentially, I need the following a <- c(2,3) b <- c(4,5,6) (2*4) + (2*5) + (2*6) + (3*4) + (3*5) +(3*6) But I do not know of a built in function that would do this. Any suggestions? -----Original
