Install problems: R-o-R on Debian with mod_ruby
Hello,
I have tried to setup Ruby-on-rails on my debian Linux machine and can
not get it to run. Maybe someone can help.
The following was installed already:
- apache2 2.0.54 (and PHP5)
- Postgresql 8.1
Now, having the ''unstable'' branch in my /etc/apt/sources.list I did:
apt-get install libapache2-mod-ruby
and Apache reports a "mod_ruby/1.2.4 Ruby/1.8.4"

Rails speed?
Hi --
(First time posting to the list...)
I''m trying out Rails on my Mac (OS X Panther, 1.6 G5). It seems...
kinda slow? I''ve even run it with FastCGI and the response time is
still painfully slow.
Is this just me? Is mod_ruby any better than FastCGI? Or is it rails?
Thanks in advance!

Needed - a step by step WAMP installation of Rails
I am finding the installation process for Rails a bit confusing. First
of all I want to use:
Windows 2000
Apache 1.3+
MySQL
The above is accomplished with WAMP5 from wampserver.com
The problem is that there is no complete step-by-step for installation
in this enviroment. The wiki instructions hop around from One-click to
Apache.conf and other items. Installing CGI support for languages on

Ideal Rails / Apache config?
Hi All,
Just about to set up RoR on our server and was wondering what the
ideal setup for RoR is these days? Apache 1? Apache 2? fCgi?
Any guidance would be helpful!
Thanks,

Rails is slow on Apache !!!
Hi ,
I have rails running on my development machine. I have installed mod_ruby
and set up the httpd.conf file to add handlers for .rb files. But the speed
I get is still slow compared to webrick which is blazingly fast.
I have 2 questions
1. How do I determine if mod_ruby is loaded and is being used to run my ruby
scripts ?
2. Which of these fcgi /mod_ruby is faster ?
Thanks

breakpoint not working
I keep getting:
No connection to breakpoint service at druby://localhost:42531
(DRb::DRbConnError)
Tries to connect will be made every 3 seconds...
This happens every time i run ./script/breakpointer using 0.9.5 on OSX
or Windows.
Any ideas?

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of
Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with
lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc???
Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR.
Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver
except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to

Why you MUST use SCGI for Rails development
Hello happy Railers,
I used to develop with a local out-of-the-box Apache and load times were
pretty slow (like a few seconds each page). "Well, it''s the price to
pay for no compile / cache / etc..." I thought. Nonsense. Yesterday I
installed SCGI, and now I''ve got the best of both worlds: rails
development env uses my very latest modifications, while SCGI ensures I

scgi?? do i need it for ruby?
This might be obvious to everyone but it is something that i haven''t
been able to find an answer to. Do I need to have either
scgi/fastcgi/cgi running on either lighttpd/apache for ruby scripts to
work? If yes, why? I have installed the scgi server and i can get the
service to run, i have also installed the following mod_fastcgi/2.4.2
mod_ruby/1.2.4 Ruby/1.8.2(2004-12-25) mod_scgi,

I''m installing a Rails App under Apache 2.0.55 with FastCGI.

Error in dispatch.fcgi...
Yesterday, our of nothing my server went down...
Rails application failed to start properly
Imediately i started checking my logs and found quickly that something
was wrong with the dispatch.fcgi or its function.
I use FCGI, and it had been working perfectly with Apache 2.0.55, MySQL
5.0, Ruby 1.8.2 and Rails 1.1.2.
What really got me wondering was that I did nothing. One day it worked

web server q -- playing nice w/ PHP
I have a webserver that''s happily running apache2 and PHP. I''d like to
deploy a site that I wrote using RoR on that same server but read that
there might be some conflicts with PHP and RoR trying to access the same
MySQL database.
How real are those conflicts? Could I mess up my running PHP site if I
install mod_ruby and try to use Apache2?
Would I be better off

problems with apache
Hi all
I''m currently running rails on apache/windows and it seems like rails
has trouble getting started the first few times I start apache and
request a page.
I created a blank controller called ''test'', and it has an index method
and associated index.rhtml file. (All it contains is <p>hello world</p>)
I keep getting ''500 server

Scaling Puppet 0.22.1 to hunderdes of nodes.
Hi,
My environment is composed of ~250 workstations hitting a single
puppetmaster server, which has been working fairly well up until now.
The most recent change has been a migration of a lot of remote file copy
objects which were previously handled with cfengine.
client side puppetd calls to the puppetmaster.getconfig method are
taking unreasonably long, on the order of 2-3 minutes. It

Recognition Failure
I keep getting a Recognition failed for "/dispatch.fcgi" error. I
search for a solution and the closest I came to finding one was
someone saying "look at the Rewrite in .htaccess and you''ll be able
to figure it out." Well, I can''t! If anyone could help, I would
appreciate it.
Thanks!

Two developers, one on unix and one on windows
Hello all,
An interesting problem, I am developing on Windows, another developer is
using Unix, and our app and svn repository are running on a Linux box.
We need an easy way to not keep breaking our app and each others
development environs when we check in the code. The piece in question is
the dispatch.fcgi. The path to ruby is (obviously) different in Windows
and Unix. Has anyone run into

What to install/configure?
Hi railers,
(railers? Rails-ers? How do you folks refer to yourselves?)
I''m brand spankin'' new to most of this. I''m just learning ruby, just
learning rails, just learning MySQL, and really just learning about
Apache/CGI-type stuff. I have a long background with UNIX sysadmin and
scripting (lots and lots of Perl and Bash), so the ruby is coming fast

A Nightmare on Rails Street: Windows Lives!
Just spent 40+ hours in two days deploying my app on Windows 2000. Not
all the time was Apache/MySql related, but a significant portion was.
What a nightmare that was. Unfortunately, the customer is dead-set on
"standardizing" by using Windows. So, as I sat there between a Linux
box and an AIX box working on this thing, I ran into problems, part of
which were:
CGI was slow (Dell

Strange Behavior on Non-Index Pages
If I browse to \myRoRApp, I get the "Welcome aboard" screen.
I''ve done the ruby scripts/generate controller MyTest, and "Rolling with

file!
I have installed fastcgi, but apache can''t "see" the
