Ferret Wiki Spam - Solutions Anyone?
Hi All, As some of you may have noticed, the Ferret Wiki has been getting spammed like crazy. And I haven''t been able to do anything about it because I just don''t have the time. I''m getting pretty close to releasing 0.10.0 which has been the major draw on my time for the last couple of months so I''m going to have some time to look into this soon. I was

Bus Error with Ferret 0.9.3 using the BooleanQuery api
Hey guys, I''ve been trying out ferret 0.9.3 on my powerbook this weekend and I''ve been triggering ''bus errors'' when using the Query API. If I programmatically build up strings, it works just fine. There''s some more information available in the trac ticket http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/ticket/62 Is anyone successfully using the Query API on

Ferret 0.3.0 released
Hi folks, This latest release of Ferret has a lot of improvements. There have been substantial improvements to performance. Try it for yourself to see. I won''t be publishing any numbers just yet. I will say though that it''s still about 2-4 times slower than Lucene with the extension installed. There is also some performance improvements in the pure Ruby version if you

Updating to the bleeding edge version of Ferret
Hey guys, It has occurred to me that a lot of people need some of the fixes I make to Ferret ASAP and don''t like having to wait to long for the gem. On the other hand, it is a bit of a pain to download and install from subversion because then you need to uninstall when the next gem comes out. So I thought I may as well put some instructions out as to how you can build your own Ferret gem

acts_as_ferret 0.2.2
Hi all, I just tagged acts_as_ferret 0.2.2 as the current stable version, so get it while it''s hot ;-) new features: - added support for the multiple models/single index approach. - find out the total number of search results by calling total_hits on the array returned by find_by_contents. fixes: - trac tickets #20 (find_by_contents breaks ferret sorting) and #24

Ferret just got faster.
Hey guys, Sorry I haven''t been around for the last few days. I''ve just finished a coding marathon fixing up some of the performance problems in Ferret. If you don''t know what I''m talking about there has been a problem with Filters and Sorts on large indexes. Well, I think I''ve fixed the problem. Before: dbalmain at ubuntu:~/workspace/exp_old/c $

How to avoid duplicate search results
I seem to be getting the same document multiple times in my search results. I''m wondering if this is because by default a document is placed in the search results every time the word you''re looking for shows up. Is that the way it works? Thanks, Carl

Need help creating my own Filter in Ruby
Hi, I posted a Trac ticket about it, but I thought I''d ask the mailing list to reach more people. I''m using these filters together in my analyzer (with acts_as_ferret + Ferret 0.11.1). HyphenFilter.new( StopFilter.new( LowerCaseFilter.new( MappingFilter.new(

acts_as_ferret rebuilding issue with ferret 0.11.0
Hi, There is a problem with the way that acts_as_ferret verifies the index is valid. In ensure_index_exists it looks for a file named ''segments''. With the 0.11.0 release of ferret there is no file with this name. On my dummy application I have a ''segments.gen'' and ''segments_2y''. Changing the test to segments.gen fixes the problem that the

Ferret::StateError while using acts_as_ferret
I''m fairly new to ferret / aaf and finding it much easier to use than HyperEstraier (which I migrated from). However, I am getting a few errors and I need to figure out if they''re problems with my usage of ferret or a bug I should report. I''m currently running Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret (latest via svn external) and 3 times today I''ve seen the

Rebuild Indexes Issue
Hi, I have some code to rebuild my ferret indexes but occasionally some stale documents remain in the index even after rebuilding. The only way I could find around this is to manually delete the index files from the filesystem. Here is the code I have for rebuilding one of my indexes for Gifts: # delete existing entries INDEX.size.times {|i| INDEX.delete(i)} gifts =

project directions
Hey all, just recently I stumbled upon this http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/timeline which seemed like good news. I thought Ferret was put on hold or perhaps dying, and having participated recently in a few discussions with people who also thought that was the case, I didn''t have a good answer for it. So, is anyone informed if there will be some development going on Ferret, as in

Ferret 0.9.0-alpha (port of Apache Lucene to pure ruby)
Hi Folks, I''ve just released version 0.9.0. This latest version of Ferret is an alpha release. I have removed the old c extension and Ferret is now running on a fully ported C library. This has allowed some huge performance improvements both with regard to memory and CPU usage. There will probably be a few portability issues to start with. It has been developed on Linux so it should

Attaching files in Tracs to tickets is broken!
Hi, I tried opening a new ticket with a patch I wanted to submit. But when I tried to attach files to the ticket I keep getting a ticket not found error. I kept trying to get it to work, but I accidentally opened 4 new tickets. Sorry. Charlie -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Which analyzer to use
Lucene''s standard analyzer splits words separater with underscores. Ferret doesn''t do this. For example, if I create an index with only document ''test_case'' and search for ''case'' it doesn''t find anything. Lucene on the other hand finds it. The same story goes for words separated by colons. Which analyzer should I use to emulate
