multiple graphics windows open with sessionInfo
Dear R People: Hello again. I'm trying to have 3 graphics windows visible simultaneously. I set up a zoo series. Then I plot the original series. I use the locator function to select 2 values from the original series, which generates a subset of the original series. Next, I plot the subset. The last step is to produce an EWMA chart from the subset series. Fair enough. I've tried

problem with normalizePath()
The packages "readxl" and "haven" (and possibly others) no longer access files on shared network drives. The problem appears to be in the normalizePath() function. The file can be read from a local drive or by functions that don't call normalizePath(). The error thrown is Error: path[1]="\\Hzndhhsvf2/data/OCPH/EPI/BHSDM/Group/17.xls": The system cannot find the

problem with normalizePath()
I found this as well. At our institution, our home directories are on network shares that are mapped to local drives. The default, it appears, is to set the location for libraries (etc) to the network share name (//computer//share/director/a/b/user) rather than the local drive mapping (H:/). Given the issue with dir.create(), this means it's impossible to install packages (since it tries to

UNC windows path beginning with backslashes: normalizePath bug??
Hi, Back in June I posted the message below, but had no replies. I've made a little progress since then so this is to update anyone interested (!) and to ask for comments. Brief problem statement: Under Windows, some parts of R don't handle UNC paths beginning with backslashes. Specifically a) Sys.glob() fails to find some files breaking (e.g.) Rcmdr plugins

Problem with all.equal and POSIXt.
I'm getting an error when applying all.equal() to objects of class POSIXt. E.g. x <- strptime(rep("2007-02-12",10),format="%Y-%m-%d") all.equal(x,x) Error in target[[i]] : subscript out of bounds The object seems to have to be of double-digit length to trigger the error. E.g. all.equal(x[1:9],x[1:9]) returns TRUE. I did a cursory search of the r-help pages and

normalizePath output depends on existence of directory
Dear all, I'm not sure whether this is intended behaviour or a bug. The path returns from normalizePath is different when the directory doesn't exist. I have included a reproducible example. path <- tempfile() missing.dir <- normalizePath(path, winslash = "/", mustWork = FALSE) dir.create(path) existing.dir <- normalizePath(path, winslash = "/", mustWork =

hclust() memory issue
Hi, I have a microarray dataset of dimension 25000x30 and try to clustering using hclust(). But the clustering on the rows failed due to the size: > y<-hclust(dist(data),method='average') Error: cannot allocate vector of size 1.9 Gb I tried to increase the memory using memory.limit(size=3000), still got the same error. I also tried agnes() from cluster package and pvclust() from

bug? in stats::cor for use=complete.obs with NAs
Arrrrr, I think I've found a bug in the behavior of the stats::cor function when NAs are present, but in case I'm missing something, could you look over this example and let me know what you think: > a = c(1,3,NA,1,2) > b = c(1,2,1,1,4) > cor(a,b,method="spearman", use="complete.obs") [1] 0.8164966 > cor(a,b,method="spearman",

rbinom and probability
Hello compadRes, I'm developing a script that selects "cells" over a certain metabolic rate to kill them. A rate between 9 and 12 means that the cells are candidates for death. I'll show you what I mean: # a would be a vector of cell metabolic rates. a<-c(8, 7, 9, 6, 10, 11, 4, 5, 6) #now identify which cells will be candidates for death, namely those cells with metabolic

omitting columns from a data frame
Dear R People: I have a data frame, xm1, which has 12 rows and 4 columns. If I put is xm1[,-4], I get all rows, and columns 1 - 3, which is as it should be. Now, is there a way to use the names of the columns to omit them, please? Thanks so much in advance! Building R from source with the PGI compiler
Hello I would like to build R from source and use the PGI compiler, rather than the GCC compiler. I saw the instructions for the Intel compiler in the R Installation Manual, but I didn't see the PGI. I tried a few times without instructions, but without success. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Also, I hope this is the right group for the question. Sincerely, Erin -- Erin
