Salted Login Generator Installation
Hi,
I am trying to install the salted login generator from
rubygems. I have version 0.13.1 of rails installed.
When I try to install the salted login generator (gem
install salted_login_generator) it asks:
Install required dependency rails?
If I select yes it says:
RubyGem version error: rails(0.11.1 not >= 0.13.1)
and fails. It does the same thing when I try to
install the regular

undefined method `redirect_back_or_default' w/ Salted Login Generator tests
Hi,
I upgraded to Rails 0.14.3 and I am getting NoMethodError exceptions
while running the functional tests for the Salted Login Generator.
Is redirect_back_or_default no longer part of the
ApplicationController? I don''t recall seeing anything about

Newbie''s problem with a nil object he didn''t expect!
Dear Rubyists/Rails gurus,
Though I''ve successfully completed the various Rails tutorials online
and the Depot application from the Agile Web Development with Rails
book, I''m still pretty much a Ruby/Rails newbie. I''m trying to learn by
writing my own simple blogging application, but I''ve run into a problem
that has had me scratching my head for a few days now.

Salted Login Hash Woes
I had the Salted Login Hash Generator working at one point and then it
just stoped working. It was around the time that I changed hosts and I
think that it just might not be able to connect to the new server. I
have tried everything though and it just doesn''t seem to work out. I''m
now thinking that maybe it has to do with something else that I changed
in the project.

Salted hash login generator (verification problem?)
Hi all,
I hope someone can help with what is probably a simple newb
installation mistake on my part. I''m having a couple of problems with
the salted hash login generator. I installed it following the
quickstart guide, and the unit tests work like a charm. There are two
errors and a failure on the function tests, though; the verified field
seems to be involved in at least one of

Bizarre problems with AJAX / missing variables
I''m having some really weird problems with an app I''m writing.
Everything is working as expected on my development machine (OSX,
Rails 0.14.4) but is cacking out with weird errors on the Textdrive
demo site (FreeBSD, Rails 1.0.0). It complains about missing
variables, with errors like this:

login sugar generator
After being frustrated (yet again) last week when attempting to use
the salted_login_generator in a new rails project, I have modified it
so that it works better for my needs. Since the
SaltedHashLoginGenerator wiki page seems to indicate many people are
frustrated by this package which is very nice but has been broken
since rails 1.1.4 I think, I have gem-ified my version of the
generator and

acts_as_authenticated, reset_session, and redirect_back_or_default
Just a question and an FYI
I just installed rails and acts_as_authenticated and was setting up a
site. Everything works fine except that in the AccountController that
I generated the calls to the routine redirect_back_or_default don''t
work because the call just before it to reset_session clears the
session[:return_to] that the method uses to set where it will
redirect.
I ended up adding

Unit tests, salted hash login
Hello,
I am having some trouble running the unit tests for the salted has login
generator. I am a bit new to both ruby and rails so I am having a little
trouble deciphering the error message I get when running ''rake
test_units''. Up till the point where I try to run the unit tests I have
followed the quick start guide for the salted hash login generator

salted passwords
The idea of salted hash algorithms is to generate a different hash
even if the same text is entered. That can be easily seen with dovecotpw:
using NON-salted SHA256, same hash is generated for a given password
[root at correio ~]# dovecotpw -s SHA256 -p 123
{SHA256}pmWkWSBCL51Bfkhn79xPuKBKHz//H6B+mY6G9/eieuM=
[root at correio ~]# dovecotpw -s SHA256 -p 123

LoginGenerator Problem
I am trying to make a barebones login system based on this example
(which in turn is just standard RoR login) but when I enter a user name
and password, it says the login is unsuccessful every time. I am not
sure where I am going wrong. Here is all relevent information

`id` int(6) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
`login` varchar(20) NOT NULL default

Multiple Database write question
I am working on reconfiguring an app that we are about to release to
work tighter with another app that we already have. Both of these
apps are going to share a single users database that stores the
general information about the user such as login, password, name,
email and so forth. They also have app specific stuff that is
attributed to the user that is stored in the app''s own

Change email template for Salted Hash Login Generator?
There are a couple of things I''m trying to do with the salted hash login
generator.
First off I am trying to change the email template to include some other
things such as links to the site, instructions and other email goodness.
Second I am trying to find where the gem is pulling the app_url from
because I changed it to reference my host name, but I have not been able
to get it to

Salted Login Generator and https protocol
The redirects in salted login generator are throwing away the "https"s in my
URLs and replacing them with "http"s. I''ve tried playing with :protocol
option, but had no luck, nor could I find anything online to help.
Anyone got any ideas?

Question about salted hashes
Hello.
I'm switching from b1gmail to my own setup which consists of
Postfix+Dovecot+MySQL (and maybe VBoxAdm). There are two problems: -
b1gmail is using unsalted MD5 hashes. Is there any good way to make my
new setup backward compatible? So I don't have to force all of my 50k
users to change their password. - How do I change my setup to salted
SHA256 (or an even better algorithm). And

Re: login sugar
Well,
it turns out that this piece of software requires that a new user
call the welcome action. The welcome action changes the user''s state
to verified. Once the user is verified, he will be allowed to
attempt authentication. The login page actually states this
which is useful to me once I read it.
I get the URL to the welcome action from the e-mail sent out
or the development.log

Question about Salted Hash Login Generator
Hi,
I am using salted hash login generator to create my login page. In the
user_environment.rb file, I saw that there is a comment saying should
NOT include the email field in the changeable user fields array. Does
anyone know why?
