Given a long zoo matrix, the goal is to "sweep" out a statistic from the

dotplot as a background for multiple barchart plots (with Lattice)
Hi R users,
I'm kind stuck in my R experience...
I want to have a multiple barchart with n windows, but with the same
background for each window, and I want that background to be a recorded
dotplot.
First, is it possible ?
If so, I guess I have to call a record plot in the panel function but how ?
As there is no panel.plot and I can't use the recorded plot as an
argument for the

recode Variable in dependence of values of two other variables
Hi,
as an R-beginner, I have a recoding problem and hope you can help me:
I am working on a SPSS dataset, which I loaded into R (load("C:/...)
I have 2 existing Variables: "ID" and "X" ,
and one variable to be computed: meanX.dependID (=mean of X for all rows
in which ID has the same value)
ID = subject ID. Since it is a longitudinal dataset, there are repeated

package zoo, function na.spline with option maxgap -> Error: attempt to apply non-function?
Hello,
I'm trying to use na.spline (package zoo) to fill some missing data in a time series.
this works fine, however, if I apply the 'maxgap' argument, I always get the error:
<------
Error in na.spline.vec(x., coredata(object.), xout = xout., ...) : attempt to apply non-function

I couldn't find a similar error for this case in the mailing lists and zoo vignette,

Splitting data
I want to implement the following algorithm in R:
I want to split my data, use a t test to compare both means of the groups to see if they significantly differ from each other. If this is a yes (p < alpha) I want to split again (into 4 groups) and do the same procedure twice, and stop otherwise (here the problem arises). As a final result I would have different groups of data.
I made some

Help with installing add-on packages
Dear R users.
Recently I wanted to update my R distribution to the current one (R-2.7.1). I am running a Fedora core 8 distirbution. The installation went fine, but when I tried to add some additional packages the majority made an exit with an error. Only a few least demanding (e.g. RColorBrewer) managed to get through the installation process.
What happened between the versions 2.6.x and 2.7.x

Problem installing packages in newer versions of R
Dear all,
I was wandering what could be wrong with my system (regularly updated Fedora core 8) so that installing packages does not succeed with almost every package. I follow the procedure specified in the help file R-admin section 6.3. This is not a feature new to the current version but happened (to me) in the previous version as well. Additionally R-help html pages try to follow wrong links

transform variables
Dear all!
I have a data frame composed by 13 columns (year, and 12 months). I want to
transform this data base in another like this
year month values
1901 1
1901 2
1901 3
.....
1901 12
1902 1
1902 2
....
1902 12
Is there a possibility to succeed that in R?
Thank you!
best regards!

Fit a 3-Dimensional Line to Data Points
Hi Experts,
I am new to R, and was wondering how to do 3D linear
regression in R. In other words, I need to Fit a
3-Dimensional Line to Data Points (input).
I googled before posting this, and found that it is
possible in Matlab and other commercial packages. For
example, see the Matlab link:

Lots of huge matrices, for-loops, speed
Hello,
we have 80 text files with matrices. Each matrix represents a map (rows for
latitude and columns for longitude), the 80 maps represent steps in time. In
addition, we have a vector x of length 80. We would like to compute a
regression between matrices (response through time) and x and create maps
representing coefficients, r2 etc. Problem: the 80 matrices are of the size
4000 x 3500 and we
