ReName
Dear list,
The name of R-language is too short and is not friendly to search engines.
Do you think it can be renamed to something like "Rsio" or "Radio" ?
Thank you so much for this useful software!
Best wishes.

[RFC] Introducing a vector reduction add instruction.
After some attempt to implement reduce-add in LLVM, I found out a
easier way to detect reduce-add without introducing new IR operations.
The basic idea is annotating phi node instead of add (so that it is
easier to handle other reduction operations). In PHINode class, we can
add a flag indicating if the phi node is a reduction one (the flag can
be set in loop vectorizer for vectorized phi nodes).

The flag is only useful for vectorized reduction for now. I'll give

Linux kerberos to Windows AD 2000/2003
I have spent the last 4-5 hours scrounging google articles on this and
have found 2 solutions. The problem is one of them is something that we
will not do (as MS will not support extending AD with Services For
Unix(SFU)).
The other is simply configuring kerberos and pam on the linux system. No
problem there from what I can tell.

Composite Quantile Regression
Does anyone know of R functions for doing composite quantile regression (Hou
and Yuan Ann Stat 36:1108, 2008)? The paper's authors do not talk about
software in their paper or on their web sites.
Thanks

Brazilian Keyboard and special characters !
Help !
I am very happy with my 20001026 wine, running my favourites
windows applications. Unfortunately, I still have a minor problem:
My keyboard in perfectly recognized as the Brazilian ABNT layout,
I had to change something in the keyboard.c file, but now is ok.
So when I start my application I can get every character I need, but
I can tell windows that a '~' followed by a

domain users "primary group" does not take effect in UNIX attributes (NIS)
Hello list,
using AD with rfc2307 provisioned and NIS extensions are available. In ADUC tool I choose the group "Domain Admins" and click on the [UNIX Attributes] tab. I activate it for my domain and choose the GID=500. When I execute on my member server "net cache flush && getent group 500" I get the result

69.x.x.x network in rfc1918
I came across a problem when one of our clients was not able to access any
of the servers on our network. This person has never connected to us before
and now for this first time was trying to do it from his home is Houston, TX
using earthlink cable service provided by Time Warner. All this
information, I think, is important because when I started examining my

[3.8 Release] Release status
According to the schedule (e.g. on the right on llvm.org), we should
have tagged the release by now, but we haven't, so we're officially
behind schedule. I'm still optimistic that we can wrap this up pretty
soon, though.
This is what's blocking us:

[RFC] Introducing a vector reduction add instruction.
Hi
When a reduction instruction is vectorized in a loop, it will be
turned into an instruction with vector operands of the same operation
type. This new instruction has a special property that can give us
more flexibility during instruction selection later: this operation is
valid as long as the reduction of all elements of the result vector is
identical to the reduction of all elements of its

X86 TRUNCATE cost for AVX & AVX2 mode
<Copied Cong>
Thanks Elena.
Mostly I was interested in why such a high cost 30 kept for TRUNCATE v16i32 to v16i8 in SSE41.
Looking at the code it appears like TRUNCATE v16i32 to v16i8 in SSE41 is very expensive
vs SSE2. I feel this number should be same/close to the cost mentioned for same
operation in SSE2ConversionTbl.
Below patch from Cong Hou reduce cost for same operation in SSE2

ML optimization question--unidimensional unfolding scaling
I'm trying to put together an R routine to conduct unidimensional unfolding
scaling analysis using maximum likelihood. My problem is that ML
optimization will get stuck at latent scale points that are far from
optimal. The point optimizes on one of the observed variables but not
others and for ML to move away from this 'local optimum', it has to move in
a direction in which the

Does anybody know a good ip traffic monitoring software that has multiuser
capability?
I need some type of software with an interface on which users can login with
their user/pass and see how much traffic (how many megabytes) they consumed
over a certain period of time. Speed graphs are NOT a must, just something
to show them hou much traffic they did.

X86 TRUNCATE cost for AVX & AVX2 mode
Hi,
I was going through the X86TTIImpl::getCastInstrCost, and got a doubt on cost
calculation for TRUNCATE instruction in AVX mode.
In AVX2ConversionTbl & AVXConversionTbl table there is no cost defined for
TRUNCATE v16i32 to v16i8, as a fallback it goes to SSE41ConversionTbl table and there
it finds cost as 30 for this operation. 30 cost for this operation looks very high.
Wondering why

Centos as a network recorder and request
I am looking at using CentOS to use as a network recorder to enhance our
security analysis. During my research I found that the linux kernel (not
CentOS specific) has a bad problem of dropping packets on gigabit
connections. This problem exists even on a dual xeon system with 1gb ram
using a minimal install. Once I found the ethereal performance wiki I
realized the problem was not in the system

[RFC] Allow loop vectorizer to choose vector widths that generate illegal types
Hello,
Currently the loop vectorizer will, by default, not consider vectorization
factors that would make it generate types that do not fit into the target
platform's vector registers. That is, if the widest scalar type in the
scalar loop is i64, and the platform's largest vector register is 256-bit
wide, we will not consider a VF above 4.
We have a command line option (-mllvm
