problems whit seasonal ARIMA
Hello,
I have daily wind speed data and need to fit seasonal ARIMA model, problem
is that my period is 365. But when I use arima(...) function, with period
365, I?m getting error message: ?Error in makeARIMA(trarma[[1]],
trarma[[2]], Delta, kappa) : maximum supported lag is 350?. Can someone
help me with this problem?
Thank you
Sincerely yours,
Laura Saltyte

arima() bug
I guess this is more r-devel than r-help.
Note, I am just the messenger - I have no idea what the user is trying to model here.
arima() crashes R (segfault) with Linux R-2.7.0, Solaris R-2.6.0:

modifying a built in function from the stats package (fixing arima) (CONCLUSIONS)
Thanks a lot to everybody that helped me out with this.
Conclusions:
(1)
In order to edit arima in R:
>fix(arima)
or alternatively:
>arima<-edit(arima)
(2)
This is not contained in the "Introduction to R" manual.
(3)
A "productive" fix of arima is attached (arma coefficients printed out and
error catched so that it doesn't halt parent loops to search for

Possible issue in stats/arima.R package
Hello all,
I am running R version 4.4.2 (2024-10-31 ucrt) on Windows 10 x64, and
noticed something that might be a minor bug (or at least inconsistent code)
in the stats/arima.R package.
I have found:
1. A missing stop() call at line 69:
if (length(order) == 3) seasonal <- list(order = seasonal) else
("\'seasonal\' is of the wrong length")
it should be rather:

Comparison between R and MATLAB
Hi R,
Can I get a comparison between R and MATLAB? How is R efficient than MATLAB? Or what are the weaknesses of R compared to MATLAB?
Thank you very much for your help,

sequential sum of a vector...
Hi R,
Let,
x=1:80
I want to sum up first 8 elements of x, then again next 8 elements of x,
then again another 8 elements..... So, my new vector should look like:
c(36,100,164,228,292,356,420,484,548,612)
I used:
aggregate(x,list(rep(1:10,each=8)),sum)[-1]
or
rowsum(x,group=rep(1:10,each=8))
But without grouping, can I achieve the required? Any other ways of
doing

Transposing by a group variable
Hi R,
Can I transpose a data frame by a particular group variable?
For example:
d=data.frame(group=c(1,1,2,2,2),val=c(6,4,6,3,5))
And my output should be:
data.frame(group=c(1,2),v1=c(6,6),v2=c(4,3),v3=c(NA,5))
Many thanks,
Shubha

Dimensions of a List
Hi R,
I have a list,
l=list(list(c(1,2),c(4,5),c(6,7)),list(c(11,22,33),c(44,55,66)))
> l
[[1]]

[1] 6 7
[[2]]
[[2]][[1]]
[1] 11 22 33
[[2]][[2]]
[1] 44 55 66
How do I know the dimensions of this list?... In other words, how many
sub-lists, sub-sub-lists etc...are there in l? How do I know this?

Regular Expressions
Hi R,
Again struck with regular expressions...
Suppose,
S=c("World_is_beautiful", "one_two_three_four","My_book")
I need to extract the last but one element of the strings. So, my output should look like:
Ans=c("is","three","My")
gsub() can do this...but wondering how do I give the regular expression....

Simple... but...
Hi R,
If
x=c(1,3,5)
y=c(2,4,6)
I need a vector which is c(1,2,3,4,5,6) from x and y.
How do I do it? I mean the best way....
Thanks, Shubha
