TeXmacs and R 2.0.0
I have encountered an issue with TeXmacs and R 2.0.0, and I've found a somewhat unsatisfying workaround. My apologies if this is old news to the R-Devel list. TeXmacs has the ability to start up an R session and copy the session input and output into a working document. The way it does this involves starting R and executing >

conditional assignments and calculations
Hello! I am using the TeXmacs interface to R. (Though I encountered a similar problem when using Sweave) In doing calculations I often ecounter this scenario: I'll have some calculations in my file: -- A=read.lots.of.data() B=huge.calculation.on(A) C=another.calculation.on(B) -- Now, if A has already been read, I don't need to re-read it. If B has already been calculated, I don't

Alternativas a pgfSewave

R GUI ???
Hello ! I am really happy to find this list. I am not new to R but to Debian or Linux in general. Up to now I used R on MS Windows but now I want to use R on Debian lenny. I have absolutely no experience with Debian. I was able to install R 2.11 on my system using the instruction in the readme on CRAN. I can open R in the shell. On windows I used R with the R GUI or with Tinn-R. Is there the

Best IDE for R
Dear R-Group, I am looking for suggestions for the "best" IDE for R. Best is obviously subjective but I need just the basic features that should function well (and I looked through the threads already). - Proper integration with R 2.11.1 - Good key shortcuts ... similar to the R Gui - Manageability of Projects, etc. - Neat formatting features I tried Revolution R but it seems huge in

cube root of a negative number
Hi, This might be me missing something painfully obvious but why does the cube root of the following produce an NaN? > (-4)^(1/3) [1] NaN > As we can see: > (-1.587401)^3 [1] -4 Thanks! Greg

what is the best way for an external interface to interact with graphics, libraries
Another message about the R to TeXmacs interface. 1. Graphics The TeXmacs interface allows the user to directly insert graphics into the session. Since I am not very familiar with programming for R, I implemented the interaction with graphics in a very primitive way. It was two modes of working: with X11, and without (for example when working remotely through ssh without forwarding X11). In

the real dimnames
Hi, R seems to have a feature that isn't used much, which I don't really now how to call. But, the dimnames function, can in addition to giving names to rows/columns/dim 3 rows/dim 4 rows... can also give labels to the dimensions themselves. Thus, I can do: A = matrix(1:9,3,3) dimnames(A) = list(from=c(), to=c() ) and now, printing a prints these dimension labels nicely: > A

one way to solve bad looking density plots in postscript
Hi, When R generates density plots and these are exported to postscript( a=matrix(1:100,10,10);image(a,col=rainbow(100);dev.copy2eps(file="image.eps") ) The result often looks bad when rendered on screen. The help page states that this is because programs use anti-aliasing. That seems to be true - turning off anti-aliasing for gs (-dGraphicsAlphaBits=1) of in OSX's preview makes

GUI's for R
Hello, I am not currently using R but I have been using S+ for sevaral years. I think that I fit in the category of power users, never using the GUI prefering the flexibility of a command line interface (CLI). In a short while I will try to move to R, that is if we can convince our IT people that installing a freeware package on a Unix server will not damaged the companie's network! The

Using 'dimname names' in aperm() and apply()
I think that the "dimname names" of tables and arrays could make aperm() and apply() (and probably some other functions) easier to use. (dimname names are, for example, created by table() ) The use would be something like: -- x <-table( from=sample(3,100,rep=T), to=sample(5,100,rep=T)) trans <- x / apply(x,"from",sum) y <- aperm( trans,

slightly speeding up readChar()
Hi, I was trying to have R read files faster with readChar(). That was before I noticed that readChar() is not that bad! In any case, below I suggest a few simple changes that will make readChar slightly faster. I followed readChar(useBytes=T), and tried to identify all O(N) operations, where N is the size of the file. The assumption is that for LARGE files we want to avoid any O(N) operations,
