0.19.2?
Hi all, Should I put out a 0.19.2 release before I get started on the significant amount of parser work I''ll be doing in the next few weeks? I''ve fixed some significant bugs that exist in 0.19.1, and I''d plan on fixing the most recently submitted bugs before the release. -- I worry that the person who thought up Muzak may be thinking up something else. --Lily

puppetd.pid and SMF woes
So when puppetd crashes/whatever, and a pid file is left behind, SMF in Solaris will try restarting puppet, but fail. And then it sits there restarting it forever. I''m not sure if I can adjust the flap detection in SMF.. it isn''t disabling the service for "restarting too quickly" because it takes so long to start. Probably because I''m NFS-mounting ruby. The

Fragment Cache Wackiness
I can''t seem to get the fragment cache to use :file_store. I''d really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Rails 1.1 final, FreeBSD Observe: In environment.rb AND production.rb (for good measure, DRY be damned): ActionController::Base.fragment_cache_store = :file_store, "/www/apps/localfeeds/directory/tmp/fragmentcache/" At the console

Are people using puppet in production?
Hi Guys, At work we need a better way of running our machines. We''ve got 14 machines around the world that we look after (mostly web servers but a few run mail and dns as you''d expect) and we currently maintain them individually. They all log to a central syslog server over an openvpn interface, but aside from that they tend to be in different locations. Could puppet be any

What do I need to learn Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, AJAX?
So I''ve sort of come to the conclusion that if I wanna get stuff done, I need to either A) Find some dang money and pay people to do it or B) Do it myself. I''m opting for B. Soooo...now I''ve got some programming/technologies to learn. I''m self-employed and I can afford to take a month (or 2) off to totally immerse myself in this and learn how to do it.

can you see the future?
looks like my message from last week about writing tools was right on time... we are enjoying a display of fireworks now going off in this particular arena... fletcher started work on an editing app with markdown-preview built right in, after reporting on his blog that he had "seen the future" in ali's post last month, where ali debuted his syntax highlighter, and fletcher is

Lost connection to MySQL server during query
I just downloaded and installed Ruby on Rails to a Win XP SP1 OS using XAMPP. I started going through the beginner tutorials at rubyonrails.org. It appears as though Ruby on Rails is operating properly until I try to access the MySQL database I created for it. Then the browser displays a detailed statement created by Ruby. It is titled: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid in Recipe#New Recipe is

PlanetRubyonrails.org
Hey guys, I''m looking for the maintainer of planetrubyonrails.org, are they around? The current planet code suffers from some common character encoding and RSS parsing problems. As evidenced here: http://www.planetrubyonrails.org/show/feed/51 I''d like to either help out, or perhaps help move to planetplanet (yes I know it''s written in python, but xml is tough

Planetrubyonrails.com
Hi Guys, Just wanted to let you know that we''ve launched http://www.planetrubyonrails.com. The main feature would be subdomain based search. So if you''re looking to read about blog posts on RJS, just go to http://rjs.planetrubyonrails.com. And you can grab the RSS feed only for RJS as well. Let me know your feedback. Thanks, Pratik -- rm -rf / 2>/dev/null - http://null.in

routing: controllers ''user'' and ''user/blogs'' not possible?
Hi, I have been searching for discussions on this issue to see whether this is a bug or feature in Rails'' routing mechanism. Say I have a UserController corresponding to URL pattern /user, and now I want to have a separate controller under user called blogs, using the controller module feature, User::BlogsController, corresponding to URL pattern /user/blogs. Such design looks

Anyone with experience using Typo for blogs?
I have a Typo blog, everything works great locally as always. When I push it up to my shared host, which supports typo and has all requirements, I am getting the 500 error from my htaccess file. I believe that the issue is from redirects, but I am new to RoR and not too familiar with the htaccess file. Can anyone tell me how I would need to have it set up if my blog is using the symlink I set up
