multiple graphics windows open with sessionInfo
Dear R People:
Hello again. I'm trying to have 3 graphics windows visible
simultaneously. I set up a zoo series.
Then I plot the original series. I use the locator function to select
2 values from the original series, which generates a subset of the
original series.
Next, I plot the subset.
The last step is to produce an EWMA chart from the subset series.
Fair enough. I've tried

Looks like a bug in subsetting of a complicated object
I don't understand what is happening! I have a (large) object sim1, an
matrix list
with dim c(101,101) where each element is an 3*3 matrix. I am
subsetting that with
a matrix coo, of dim c(100,2), of unique indices, but the resulting object
has length 99, not 100 as expected.
Code reproducing the problem follows:
library(RandomFields)
set.seed(123)
sim0 <- GaussRF(x=seq(0, 100, by=1),

duplicated() and unique() problems
Hi everybody
I have found something (for me at least) strange with duplicated(). I will
first provide a replicable example of a certain kind of behaviour that I
find odd and then give a sample of unexpected results from my own data. I
hope someone can help me understand this.
Consider the following
# this works as expected
ex=sample(1:20, replace=TRUE)
ex
duplicated(ex)
ex=sort(ex)

problem installing "boot" package on Mac
Dear all,
I cannot seem to get "boot" running. Can anybody help? I've tried downloading and compiling the binary from <http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/boot/index.html>, as well as the below. (Please see the scary-sounding error message, and the sessionInfo.) Neither works.
Any help would be much appreciated.

reorder always returns "ordered"
Or at least is seems that way to me. It's not a big problem, but the
behavior doesn't match the documentation. (I think r-help is the
place to report this. )

Math characters in column heading using latex() in Hmisc
Hi Everybody
I want to print a latex table containing math characters in the column
heading
These are the formulae I want to use as column headings. It prints OK from
TeX
$\sum_{i}\sum_{j}C_{P,i,j,y}\times\mathit{FC}_{i}$, $XU_{alt,y}$, $n$,
$\bar{C}_{P,y}$
My plan was to create a character vector with these and later rbind the
values to them. When I create the vector like:

Cholmod warning when fitting a poisson GLMM
Hi,
I am getting a warning message when I am fitting a generalized mixed model (mod_2) and I don't understand why because when I add just an interaction factor the model works perfectly (mod_1).
Does anyone know what it happpens ?
Thanks,

Plotting a functional time series
Hello,
I'm willing to plot a sequence of densities on a 3d graph, something like

x <- sapply(1:10, function(i)rnorm(1000))
f <- sapply(1:10, function(i)density(x[,i], from=-5,to=5)$y)
grid <- density(x[,1], from=-5,to=5)$x

Spatial: number of independent components?
Hi all, I am sorry if this is a very basic quesion, but I have no experience
with analyzing spatial data and could not find the right function/package
quickly. Any hints would be much appreciated. I have a matrix of spatial
point patterns like the one below and want to find the number of independent
components (if that's the right term) in that matrix (or in that image).

Sporadic errors when training models using CARET
Hi. I am trying to construct a svmLinear model using the "caret" package
(see code below). Using the same data, without changing any setting,
sometimes it constructs the model successfully, and sometimes I get an index
out of bounds error. Is this unexpected behaviour? I would appreciate any
insights this issue.
Thanks.

using survexp and ratetable with coxph object that includes a factor term
Hello,
I'm attempting to use the ratetable argument to
survexp in the survival package. I use
the example from the ?survexp help page below,
and then slightly modify it to produce an error.
library(survival)
data(pbc)
#fit a model without any factors
pfit1 <- coxph(Surv(time, status > 0) ~ trt + log(bili) +
log(protime) + age + platelet, data=pbc)

Bug report: Disappearing text when using a long "expression" in ylab
Hello all,
After help form Barry Rowlingson I am reporting my first bug to R-devel.
Please be kind if I did something wrong in the reporting - and many thanks

Example of the bug:
tt <- expression(paste("test
loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo(% of 360" *degree,")"))

I have a questionnaire with a lot of questions that allow for more than one
option to be chosen (like a tickbox in a html form). The data captured on a
mobile device and is supplied in a format where every option is a separate
variable (logical). I want to develop a generic function to process these
questions. As part of the analysis I want make a matrix of the p-value from

Building an array from matrix blocks
Hello,
I've googled for a while and couldn't find anything on this topic: say
I have a matrix A and want to build matrices B1, B2,... using blocks
from A (or equivalently an array B with B[,,i] being a block from A),
and that I must sum the B[,,i]'s.
I've come up with this rather non-elegant code:
> n = 6
> p = 3
>
> A <- matrix(1:(n^2), n, n, byrow=TRUE)

removing specific rows from array
I'm attempting to create an array of treatment comparisons for modelling data generation. This involves comparison of one treatment (c2) with another (c3), relative to a common comparator (c1).
Attached code gives me the correct array but need to remove duplicates. Duplicates relate only to c2 and c3
such that I need to remove
r3 because c2 and c3 are same as r1 with c2 and c3 swapped
