Anova in 'car': "SSPE apparently deficient rank"
I have design with two repeated-measures factor, and no grouping
factor. I can analyze the dataset successfully in other software,
including my legacy DOS version BMDP, and R's 'aov' function. I would
like to use 'Anova' in 'car' in order to obtain the sphericity tests
and the H-F corrected p-values. I do not believe the data are truly
deficient in rank. I

Type II and III sum of squares (R and SPSS)
To whom it may concern
I made some analysis with R using the command Anova. However, I found
some problmes with the output obtained by selecting type II o type III
sum of squares.
Briefly, I have to do a 2x3 mixed model anova, wherein the first factor
is a between factor and the second factor is a within factor. I use the
command Anova in the list below, because I want to obtain also the sum

concatenating two vectors
Dear all,
I want to concatenate the elements of two vectors such as
a<-c("a1","a2")
b<-c("b1","b2")
and obtain
"a1b1", "a1b2","a2b1","a2b2"
I tried the paste and paste0 functions, but they yielded elementwise
concatenation such as
"a1b1","a2b2"
I am wondering that is there an efficient

reshape with two time variables
I have a data frame in wide format that I'd like to convert to long format.
For example, in wide format I have:

2 2 390 500 470 472

"Glueing" factors together
Hi folks,
Suppose I have a series of cases each with categorical
factors A, B.
What is the best way to "glue" A and B together into a single
factor? For example, given
A0 B1 ...
A1 B1 ...
A0 B2 ...
A1 B0 ...
A0 B0 ...
A1 B2 ...
then I'd like to end up with a single factor with levels
A0B0, A0B1, A0B2, A1B0, A1B1, A1B2
according to all the combinations which actually occur in

string split at xth position
Hi,
I have a vector of strings like:
c("a1b1","a2b2","a1b2") which I want to spilt into two parts like:
c("a1","a2","a2") and c("b1","b2,"b2"). So there is
always a first part with a+number and a second part with b+number.
Unfortunately there is no separator I could use to directly split
the vectors.. Any idea

F test
Dear R users,
I need to do a F test on the hypothesis that a 2 by 1 vector (X_1, X_2)' has the mean vector (M_1, M_2)'. Specifically, I would like to assume the X vector comes from a bivariate Normal distribution (M, Sigma). Then, given 1000 observations on X, I wanted to test if the means of X agree with the means of the target Normal distribution. Any function or package in R could do

Matrix multiplication
Hi all,
Is there an easy way to do cumulative matrix multipliation in R? What's the syntex? Thanks.

Matching Data & Results (Fuzzy-Cluster-Analysis)
Hello,
i use i.e. the cluster-package and the
fanny-object to construct some cluster's and get
the membership'S for every "Person" & Cluster !
My finally problem is to match efficient the data
and the results's togehter in one table!
Until now i use the ODBC-Package and
save both in a access-file and copy them together,
but i can't be sure that the sorting is the

SE estimates for treatment groups from nlme
I am wondering how to obtain SE estimates for fixed effects from a nonlinear mixed effects model?
I have fixed effects corresponding to three factors A, B and C with 2, 3 and 3 levels respectively. I have fit a model of the following general form:
nlme1<-nlme(y~ SasympOrig(x, Asym, lrc), data=df, fixed=list(Asym~A*B*C, lrc~A*B*C),
start=c(fixef(ETR.nlme)[1], rep(0,17), fixef(ETR.nlme)[2],

Greetings,
Sorry, the last message was sent by mistake! Here it is again:
I encounter a strange problem computing some numerical integrals on [0,oo).

Speex echo canceller on TI C55 DSP
Jean-Marc,
I have traced the second infinite loop further. When st->adapted becomes
true (mdf.c line 623), the first Yf[i] value is 4, the leak_estimate is
0xd4e, the resulting r is 3. The first value in st->Rf is 0, so e is 1, and
r is set to e>>1, or 0. A little later there is a divide by r, and there is
the hang.
It seems that the 0 in Rf[0] is the problem, but I am not

Non-monotonic spline using splinefun(method = "monoH.FC")
Hi,
In my version of R, the stats package splinefun code for fitting a
Fritsch and Carlson monotonic spline does not appear to guarantee a
monotonic result. If two adjoining sections both have over/undershoot
the way the resulting adjustment of alpha and beta is performed can give
modified values which still do not satisfy the required constraints. I
do not think this is due to finite precision

"unsparse" a vector
Suppose I have a vector of strings:
c("A1B2","A3C4","B5","C6A7B8")
[1] "A1B2" "A3C4" "B5" "C6A7B8"
where each string is a sequence of <column><value> pairs
(fixed width, in this example both value and name are 1 character, in
reality the column name is 6 chars and value is 2 digits).

Good. At least we've narrowed it down a bit.

Speex echo canceller on TI C55 DSP
Just tried your files and I'm not running into any infinite loops and
the cancellation works fine. Unless the C6x has the same problem, I
suspect a 16-bit problem. I'll check and see if I find something. About
the r=0 problem, I can't find where it ends up in a denominator, so I
suspect is not (directly) the problem.

HVM memory upper limit
Hello,
I''m trying to create a HVM virtual machine (windows guest) with 3G of
memory but this isn''t working. Xen create the domain but nothing happens
(the OS don''t start and the cpu time remains 0). Things start to work
with 2000MB or below. Is there some kind of upper limit for HVM virtual
machines?
I''m using a Dell PowerEdge 8250 machine with 16GB of memory.
