AJAX form Parameters jumbled.
Sorry for the repost but I originally posted this as a response to another thread. I have a text field called ''phrase'' but the parameter values always come up as nil and when I check the parameters dumped in the error message I do not get the normal hash you''d expect. Instead of something like {"phrase"=>"jim"} I get:

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie. I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand why there isn't a global voting for this like

Users voting
I''m trying to work out the most reasonable way to keep track of users "voting" for or against a particular bit of data. Obviously, I don''t want them to be able to just bang on the link -- I''d prefer to limit it to one vote per day, for example. I could record the fact that they''ve voted in the session, but I''d really rather not have

overloading dragdrop.js
Hi everybody- First time poster, please be gentle. I have written a little rails app where you can create divs and move them around via Thomas'' wonderful dragdrop.js. I would like to be able to fire an AJAX event to update the top and left of the dragged object upon release. I see many AJAX link_to_remote and observe_field. What is the proper way to observe that the position (not

exclude an attribute from save
Hi, I''ve used .save to save the attributes, but on my table there is an autoincrementing id (not the primary key) that doesn''t need to be inserted... but save try to INSERT it anyway... is there a way to avoid save from acting this way or to whisper him to be more polite this time? ;) Thanks, Enrico -- "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do

Session ids and identification
Hi all, AFAIK, session ids are generated and given to a user side as a cookie or whatever so that we may later "identify" a user and their previous authentication by that id. But this is not secure! It doesn''t matter if we use https or "secure cookies" or some other crap. It doesn''t matter. As soon as you trust the client to provide you with valid data, you

Vote Vorbis!
The Linux Journal's 2002 Readers' Choice poll is open. Vorbis is featured in the Favorite Audio Tool category, so go vote for your favorite codec! Actually, you even have the choice of voting for "ogg123" or for "Vorbis Tools", since it seems someone at Linux Journal is not quite aware of what Vorbis Tools contain. I suggest voting for "Vorbis Tools", so that

acts_as_rateable in Beast
I''m trying to implement acts_as_rateable to my Beast installation to give users the option to rate posts (like reddit). I chose acts_as_rateable as it supposedly easily allows reddit-type voting but I''m having some problems setting it up and the documentation seems outdated. (http://www.juixe.com/techknow/index.php/2006/07/05/acts-as-rateable-plugin/) So far, I''ve

survey package question
Hello, I have got a cluster sample using an election dataset where I already had the final results of a county-specific election. I am trying to figure out what would be the best sampling design for my data. The structure of the dataset is: 1) polling station (in general schools where people vote, for a county, for example, there are 15 polling stations) 2) inside each polling station, there

AJAX & Partials
Hi, looking to see if I''m on the right track here... we''re selling widgets to customers, but there are a number of different type of widgets and each different type of widget has a number of parameters that the customer can specify, in effect each customer orders widget''s customised in ways particular to that specific order. We use STI to store each different widget

HOW DO I populate options from previous option click
Hi, I have a form with three drop down option lists. Currently each of these contain full listings as instantiated in the controller on entering the edit action. What I would like to do is filter the second list based on what the user selected on the first and the third filtered to reflect the second. For example I have major_role, role and person_in_role = role is a subset of major_role

Best way to propogate model rules to controller?
Hey everybody, I''ve got a model that represents kind of a turn-based games. Certain actions can only be made unders certain conditions. For simplicity, we''ll say that the only condition for a particular action is that the weekday be Tuesday. def add_vote raise ''You cannot vote today'' unless Date.today.wday == 2 ... end In my controller I want to show a

How to map clusters to a correlation matrix
Dear All, I have several socio-economic and geographic variables for the 27 EU countries. I would to use these data to derive a correlation matrix between groups of countries (for a different application). I thought of using kmeans to cluster the groups, and then calibrate between group correlations using distances between the centroids, and within group correlations using distances in a cluster

Rating/Survey Plugin
I would like include the ability for people to rate posts on my site from 1 to 5. I would like to then display the average rating for each post. To compute the average each time is obviously database and cpu intensive. I have been thinking about the best solution. I could certainly use a cache and expire it every x minutes. However, I don''t want to reinvent the wheel. Is there

z-index and dragging
Hey Guys, I''m having trouble with getting my draggables to go over the top of other items on my page. For instance, if I drag an icon from ''lower'' in the page to a ''higher'' point then it slides underneath it visually. I have set the z-index to a very high number and that doesn''t seem to have any effect. Are there other things I need to
