minor tick marks
Hi ! I need a plot for data extending over several orders of magnitude on the y axis. The following command generates a nice looking semi-log plot for my data: plot(x,y,log="y",type="l",lty=3, ylim=c(0.01,2),yaxp=c(0.01,1,1),las=1) I would appreciate having also minor tick marks in-between the 3 major ticks obtained with the above command. The "minor.tick" function

nested for loops
Dear Admin, I will appreciate if you advise me an effective way to write the following R code including nested for loops. I cannot do it by using expand.grid function because it results with memory allocation problems. Thanks for your time and consideration. for(d1 in 0:n){ for(d2 in 0:n){ for(d3 in 0:n){ for(d4 in 0:n){ for(d5 in 0:n){ for(d6 in 0:n){ for(d7 in 0:n){ for(d8 in 0:n){ for(d9 in

Call by reference or suggest workaround
I have written code to compute multi-indices in R [1] and due to the recursive nature of the computation I need to pass around the *same* matrix object (where each row corresponds to one multi-index). As pass by reference wasn't the default behavior I declared a global matrix (mat) and used the <<- operator to write to the global matrix. So the usage would be to call genMultiIndices(3,2)

colour highlighting inputs and outputs in the R terminal?
Dear all Is it possible to get basic colour highlighting for inputs and outputs in the R terminal? I am looking for something similar to what GUIs provide, such as JGR and (I think) the Windows R GUI: colouring all inputs in red, and all outputs in blue. All this in a colour-aware console (in my case, on Linux). I've been looking into xterm256 and highlight, but I am sofar unable to do with

Syntax coloring in R console
Dear all, I am a happy user of R console, but I would like to see syntax coloring. I use R 2.12 in Ubuntu Linux. I have found the packages "xterm256" and "highlight", but I was not able to figure out how to use it to highlight the syntax in console output. Also, I tried several GUI interfaces, but I was not able to find something that suits me better than the default R

Rgui.exe fix for "console not found" buffer overflow problem
I'm using R on Windows XP Professional SP2. I figured out the fix for my buffer overflow problem that did not allow me to use Rgui.exe for about two weeks. I would keep getting "console not found" and even when I uninstalled and re-installed got the same problem. Here's how the problem started. In Rgui.exe, I attempted to get more visible output in the buffer (I wanted

link in base help file fails.
I run R on MS Windows. In R2.9.0dev, I type ?base to get "R help for package base" to open. I then select ".First" from the list of contents, getting a page headed: "Initialization at Start of an R Session". About half way down there is a sentence: The command-line flag --vanilla implies --no-site-file, --no-init-file, --no-restore and --no-environ. Under

Minor nuisance with rw1071
Hola! Starting with rw1071, just after starting Rgui the scope is not with Rconsole, but some other place. This means I have to do a mouse click in the Rconsole before starting to write the first command. Since I always forget this, I end up writing the first command twice. This is of course only a minor nuisance, but why is focus no longer set to Rconsole window when start-up? This is on
