ed50
I am using semiparametric Model  library(mgcv) sm1=gam(y~x1+s(x2),family=binomial, f) How should I  find out standard error for ed50 for the above model ED50 =( -sm1$coef[1]-f(x2)) / sm1$coef [2]   f(x2) is estimated value for non parametric term.   Thanks [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

code for double sum
Hi R-users,   I wrote a code to evaluate double sum as follows:   ff2 <- function(bb,eta,z,k) { r <- length(z) for (i in 1:r) { sm1 <- sum((z[i]*bb/2)*(psigamma((0:k)+eta+1,deriv=0)/(factorial(0:k)*gamma((0:k)+eta+1))))  sm2 <- sum((besselI(z[i]*bb,eta)*log(z[i]*bb/2) - sm1)/besselI(z[i]*bb,eta))  sm2 } ff2(bb,eta,z,10)     but it gave me the following message:   >

Difficulty creating Julian day in data frame
Hi, I'm attempting to add a "Julian Day" column to a data frame. Here is my code and the resulting data frame: vic.data <- read.table("C:/VIC/data/vic.data.csv", header=F) names(vic.data) <- c("year", "month", "day", "precip", "evap", "runoff", "baseflow", "Tsup",

hypothetical prediction after polr
Dear R-Help listers, I am trying to estimate an proportional odds logistic regression model (or ordered logistic regression) and then make predictions by supplying a hypothetical x vector. However, somehow this does not work. I guess I must have missed something here. I first used the polr function in the MASS package, and I create a data frame and supply it to the predict function (see below):

[Flac-users] Re: CD archival best practices?

I suppose the ideal would be to have a metadata block to store the subcode from a CD, and something that could interpret it as CD-TEXT, if that's what it is. Then it would be possible to

[LLVMdev] How to define complicated instruction in TableGen (Direct3D shader instruction)
Each register is a 4-component (namely, r, g, b, a) vector register. They are actually defined as llvm packed [4xfloat]. The instruction: add_sat r0.a, r1_bias.xxyy, r3_x2.zzzz Explaination: '.a' is a writemask. only the specified component will be update '.xxyy' and '.zzzz' are swizzle masks, specify the component permutation, simliar to the Intel SSE permutation

Suspicious output from lme4-mcmcsamp
Hello, R community, I have been using the lmer and mcmcsamp functions in R with some difficulty. I do not believe this is my code or data, however, because my attempts to use the sample code and 'sleepstudy' data provided with the lme4 packaged (and used on several R-Wiki pages) do not return the same results as those indicated in the help pages. For instance: > sessionInfo() R

nls singular gradient ..as always..
Hi all. Sorry for posting again such a topic but I went through previous posts but couldn't find a solution. I use the following code to fit an exponential model to my data. I have 4 different datasets. For 3 datasets nls seems to work fine and I have no error messages. But for 1 dataset I am getting the "world known" singular gradient error. xfit.dNEE <-

[LLVMdev] How to define complicated instruction in TableGen (Direct3D shader instruction)
Actually the problems that Tzu-Chien Chiu are encountering are similar to what should be done for generating SSE code in the X86 backend and also other SIMD instruction sets. I think LLVM neeeds to add instructions for permuting components, extracting and injecting elements in packed types. If the architecture has instructions which can do permutations for each instruction (for example

smoothScatter plot
Hi, I want to make a plot similar to sm1 (attached). The code I tried is: dcols <- densCols(x,y) smoothScatter(x,y, col = dcols, pch=20,xlab="A",ylab="B") abline(h=0, col="red") But it turned out to be s1 (attached) with big dots. I was wondering if anything wrong with my code. Thanks,Zhengyu -------------- next part -------------- A non-text

efficient code. how to reduce running time?
Hi, I am new to R. and even though I've made my code to run and do what it needs to . It is taking forever and I can't use it like this. I was wondering if you could help me find ways to fix the code to run faster. Here are my codes.. the data set is a bunch of 0s and 1s in a data.frame. What I am doing is this. I pick a column and make up a new column Y with values associated with that

linear classifiers with sparse matrices
I've been trying to get some linear classifiers (LiblineaR, kernlab, e1071) to work with a sparse matrix of feature data. In the case of LiblineaR and kernlab, it seems I have to coerce my data into a dense matrix in order to train a model. I've done a number of searches, read through the manuals and vignettes, but I can't seem to see how to use either of these packages with sparse

Vermunt's LEM in R
I don't know of any R package that can match all the functionality of LEM eg fitting equality constraints to model parameters a la LISREL. WRT dumping tables, I would have thought that as.data.frame.table does pretty much what you want, [not tested] newtab <- as.data.frame(table(a,b,c)) cat("dim\n") for(i in seq(1, ncol(newtab)-1) { cat(nlevels(newtab[,1]," ") }

Force evaluation of variable when calling partialPlot
Greg, Two thoughts: 1. It might be possible that 'vars' is a reserved word of sorts and if you change the name of your vector RF might be happier 2. A way that works for me is to call importance as follows: sel.imp <- importance(sel.rf, class=NULL, scale=TRUE, type=NULL) and then use the 'names' of the imp data frame to be absolutely clear to RF you are talking about the

packaging standards for rda files?
Dear everybody: We used the fine foreign library to bring in an SPSS dataset that was about 9 megabytes and I can squeeze it into a much smaller R object using compression with save(ndat, file="NatAnnES2000.rda", compress=T). I can use load() to get the "ndat" dataframe back, that's all good as far as I can see. If I put that file in the data subdirectory, then the
