Get output values in a table
Hi,
I use two similar scripts to put p-values of shapiro.test and, respectively,
of wilcox.test in a table:
a)
d <- data.frame(dataset$GroupFactor, dataset[2:11])
# p-values for the shapiro test (by levels of GroupFactor)
with(d, aggregate(d[,-1], list(d[,1]), FUN = function(x)
shapiro.test(x)$p.value))
b)
d <- data.frame(dataset$GroupFactor, dataset[2:11])
with(d, aggregate(d[,-1],

How to run Shapiro-Wilk test for each grouped variable?
I want to run Shapiro-Wilk test for each variable in my dataset, each
grouped by variable groupFactor.
I have these working commands:
> data.n<-names(data) # put names into a vector called data.n
> by(eval(parse(text=(paste("data",data.n[3],sep="$")))), data$factor, shapiro.test) #run shapiro.test
but I must to change the variable number manualy. How to automate

Wilcoxon test and grouping factor with multiple levels
Dear R users,
I have a dataset with two variables: $esan - a grouping factor with 8
levels and $reus. I'd like to do wilcox.test on this dataset as
sugested Weiwei here:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2007-July/136627.html. I tried
to adapt his recommendation but no succes. Can anyone help me?

A general question: Is language S a component part of R?
In the "Introduction and preliminaries" the "An Introduction to R" manual
says about R: "... Among other things it has ... a well developed, simple
and effective programming language (Called 'S') ... ". Now I'm a little
confused. This means that language S is a component part of R? And S is not
free? But R is free? Or the mentioned S is only "a free

Levene's Test for Homogeneity of Variance
Hi, All!
To calculate Levene's Test for Homogeneity of Variance I use R Commander,
and this is the output:
> levene.test(Dataset$age, Dataset$sex)
Levene's Test for Homogeneity of Variance
Df F value Pr(>F)
group 1 0.8739 0.3567
33
I am not sure what means "Pr(>F)"? Can anyone explain/translate this?

Lambert's W function
Hello List
does anyone have an R function for the Lambert W function? I need
complex arguments.
[the Lamert W function W(z) satisfies
W(z)*exp(W(z)) = z
but I could'nt even figure out how to use uniroot() for complex z]

How to start JGR in full window?
I want to start JGR as a full sized/maximized window automatically, but how
to do this? For other applications I can add option "--geometry 1440x900"
to the launch command, but for JGR this do not work. Sugestions?

Random numbers
Hi All.
I have R code whose functionality is being replicated within a C+
program. The outputs are to be compared to validate the conversion
somewhat - however (as is always the case) I have stuffed my code with
random number calls.
Random uniform numbers in C+ are being produced using the (Boost)
mersenne-twister generators (mt11213b & mt19937) - which is the default
type of generator

group mean, minus each row's value
I used the following to assign each row the group average, where w is
the new group average variable, x is the variabale to be averaged, and
g is the nominal group indicator:
w <- ave(x,g)
Now I want to calculate the group average, but WITHOUT each row's
value of x. Is there an easy way to do this? I'm sure I'm missing
something obvious here, but for the life of me I can't

Variance Components in R
Hi,
I'm trying to fit a model using variance components in R, but if very
new on it, so I'm asking for your help.
I have imported the SPSS database onto R, but I don't know how to
convert the commands... the SPSS commands I'm trying to convert are:

Non-procedural access to columns of a matrix
Hi,
I would like to have an index for a column in a matrix encoded in a
cell of the same matrix.
For example:
x = matrix(c(11,12,13,1,
21,22,23,3,
31,32,33,2),byrow=T,ncol=4)
In this case, column 4 is the index. I then access the column
specified in the index by:
> for (i in 1:3) print(x[i,x[i,4]])
[1] 11
[1] 23
[1] 32
>
> for (i in 1:3) {x[i,x[i,4]] <- x[i,x[i,4]] + 5}
> x

Statitics Textbook - any recommendation?
I would like to buy a basic statistics book (experimental design,
sampling, ANOVA, regression, etc.) with examples in R. Or download it
in PDF or html format.
I went to the CRAN contributed documentation, but there were only R
textbooks, that is, textbooks where R is the focus, not the
statistics. And I would like to find the opposite.
Other text I am trying to find is multivariate data

Problem with GeekSquad GS-1500 (Cyberpower 1500 avr lcd)
Hi,
I've installed Nut 2.0.5 on a RedHat 9 box.
I have a GeekSquad 1500 UPS. (GeekSquad is a BestBuy brand) I've found out
that
it's actually a CyberPower 1500 AVR LCD.
I'm using it with the serial cable.
I'm unable to get it working with any of the drivers provided with NUT.
I've tried cpsups, cyberpower and powerpanel.
here's the output of the different drivers

Precision in R
Hi,
Why sum() on a 10-item vector produces a different value than its
counterpart on a 2-item vector? I understand the problems related to
the arithmetic precision in storing decimal numbers in binary format,
but shouldn't the errors be equal regardless of the method used?
See my example:
> options(digits=22)
> x=rep(.1,10)
> x

Cyberpower Drive in 2.2.0 Fedora 7
I know others have seen this before, I just never saw any real
resolution to it. I am not a programmer, or at the least a very bad one,
so I don't think this is something I can do properly myself.
I have a Cyberpower 1500 AVR rack mount that worked good, except for the
output voltage listing, with an older version of NUT (I don't remember
the version of NUT, but the O/s was Fedora

CFA in R/sem package
Hi,
I am not sure if R-help is the right forum for my question. If not,
please let me know.
I have to do some discriminant validity tests with some constructs. I
am using the method of doing a CFA constraining the correlation of a
pair of the constructs to 1 and comparing the chi-square of this
constrained model to the unconstrained model. If the chi-square
difference is not significant, then I

Function for multiple t tests
Hi,
I want to run t.test() for several variables among two groups, and I
would like to skip the tedious process of collecting information to
assemble a table, but I am not sure if the function I want already
exists. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
I have a working example, as required by the posting guide:
my_swiss = swiss[-1,]
my_swiss$facto = rep(1:2,nrow(my_swiss)/2)
