working with groups of labels?
Good Morning, I have a graph with groups of variables. I have include the group names as variables so that I can have them positioned correctly. Unfortunately this means that the group names have to follow all of the same rules as the variables within the groups. I would rather have those group names left justified and bolded. I know that I can do this in an mtext() function using font=2

rotating axis / mtext labels
Hello list. Is it possible to use par(srt=45) to rotate text by 45 degrees along the x-axis of a plot. Using: <code> x_names<-c("C57 Nv", "C57 Vacc", "129 Nv", "129 Vacc", "IFNgR Nv", "IFNgR Vacc") par(srt=45) mtext(font=2, x_names, side=1, line=1, at=l, cex=1.2) par(srt=0) </code> doesn't seem to work in R 2.2.0

Bold Substring in mtext (newbie question)
Hi everyone, I suspect this is an easy task however I've not been able to accomplish it. I'd like to create an mtext title which has certain words bold, the rest not bold. So far I've been able to create one which is all bold, one which is all not bold and one which has bold and not bold superimposed on one another. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Many thanks, Joe Retzer # Not

R exponential regression
Hi all, I have a dataset which consists of 2 columns. I'd like to plot them on a x-y scatter plot and fit an exponential trendline. I'd like R to determine the equation for the trendline and display it on the graph. Since I am new to R (and statistics), any advice on how to achieve this will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Chris -- View this message in context:

R treating time
Hi all, I have imported a value 3:00 from Excel into R using read.csv. I want R to recognise it as 3:00am (time data). How do I do it? User inputs
Hi everyone, I have been searching for answers for the following questions but I don't have much success. The following questions may actually be quite simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (1) I have written a script which requires user input. I am using the readline() command. However, everytime when I run the script, R does not wait for the user input and proceed to the next line.

Remove duplicated rows

How to rotate the axisnames in a BARPLOT
Hi all, - how can I do a barplot with rotated axis labels? I've seen the example for just a plot in the FAQ, but I'll missing the coordinates to plot my text at the right position beneath the bars. Is there any (easy?) solution? - how can I set the y-axis in a barplot to logarithmic scale? Many thanks in advance! Best Regards Tom --

Force labelling of x-axis
Hi, I'm trying to do a box-whisker plot of two columns of a data frame, a list of category names in one column vs. some numerical values in the other. The plot itself works fine, but only a few points of the x-axis ( the category names ) are labelled. I think that this is because the category names are too long. Is there any way to force R to label each x-axis value, preferably at a

Can I make my colnames bold?
Hello forum! As the subject indicates, I am trying to make a barplot and would like my column names to be in bold. Is this possible in R without having to make my column names in mtext? Any help would be much appreciated. The code I am using is as follows. par(mar=c(3,8,2,2)) par(adj=.5) par(font=2) par(oma=c(3,3,3,3)) par(xpd=TRUE) Blot<-matrix(c(25.2995, 0.7625, 25.6135, 36.5770,

title: words in different colors?
In ?title I see the plot(cars, main = "") title(main = list("Stopping Distance versus Speed", cex=1.5, col="red", font=3)) I can't seem to generalize this to use several colors in a single title. What I'd like is in latex-ish \red{Hair color} \black{ and } \blue{Eye color} to serve also as an implicit legend for points that are plotted. -Michael --

Impact of cex changing as a function of mfrow
R 2.15.1 OS X (MLion) Colleagues, I am aware that changes in mfrow / mfcol in par() affect cex (from help: In a layout with exactly two rows and columns the base value of ?"cex"? is reduced by a factor of 0.83: if there are three or more of either rows or columns, the reduction factor is 0.66). I generate a multipage PDF in which mfrow varies such that cex is impacted. This affect

par(las=.) gives wrong "adj" for mtext() (PR#726)
For R Version 1.1.1 and R-devel (Linux)... Sorry, there's no time to fix myself now {e.g., after starting a new device} : par(las=3); plot(1:10); par(las=1) ; mtext("mtext") Gives a left-adjusted (as for adj = 0) mtext, even if par("adj") is still 0.5 Note that I'm also not convinced that mtext() should follow par("las") as it does in the

changing text direction of mtext
Hello, Does anyone know if it's possible to change the text direction of mtext? I'd like to use 'mtext(side=2)' but the text should be 'left-to-right'. I couldn't find an argument for that in the help files. Thanks for any suggestions Tobias -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/changing-text-direction-of-mtext-tf4321931.html#a12307342 Sent from

mtext adj= wrong with several las= (PR#7188)
Dear all, Our quite basic function mtext() does wrong adjustments in some parameter configurations. This gets obvious when using multi line texts: There is no way to properly adjust text perpendicular to axis 2, for example. Best Jens Oehlschl?gel m <- matrix(1:9, 3) colnames(m) <- c("several\nlines", "several\nlines", "several\nlines") par(mfrow=c(2,2))

Multicolor main title in a plot or mtext
Dear R-users, the problem I'm facing today is to write a multicolor main title in a plot. I would like to have 3/4 colors to help people in the audience to visually realize what is what in a 4x2 plot array On top of each plot I would like to have two lines. The 1st line will indicate what is plotted The 2nd line will indicate a a reference Graphically speaking I would like a result similar

Rotated mtext
I seem to remember this coming up before, but I can't find it any messages I've saved or in the archives (searching by subject). I want to rotate mtext so that it's perpendicular to the right side. I tried srt=90 and lots of other values, but it seems to be ignored. Is there a way to do this? ______________________________________________________________________ Stuart Luppescu

multiple colors within same line of text
Hi, I'm interested in using mtext(), but with the option of having multiple colors in the same line of text. For example, creating a line of text where: Red is red and blue is blue How do you create a text argument that lets you do this within mtext()?
