ggplot2 will not draw a rectangle. Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class XXX"
What am I missing? When I run the code below I get the error message
"Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class function"
Googling suggests a message of "Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class XXX" is not uncommon but I don't see why I am getting a "function" error unless I am using some reserved word?

bar plot with non-zero starting level
Hi,
I want to plot grouped bars to compare 95% confidence interval estimates
from two models. Each bar represents a 95% confidence interval estimate
of a coefficient from one of the two models. Each group represents
confidence interval estimates of the same coefficient from the two models.
I think such a bar plot will nicely present whether 95% confidence
interval estimates of the same

2D Random walk
I've wrote some code to simulate a random walk in 2 dimensions on a lattice.
Basically I want to add something in to make it plot it point by point so
you can see what is going on.
Heres my code for the random walk in 2d
RW2D<-function(N)
{
i<-0
xdir<-0
ydir<-0
xpos<-vector()
xpos[1]<-xdir
ypos<-vector()
ypos[1]<-ydir

Semi-random movement inside a circle
Dear list,
I am trying to program semi-random movement within a circle, with no particles leaving the circle. I would like them to bounce back when they come to close to the wall, but I don't seem to be able to get this right. Would somebody kindly give me a hint ? This is my code so far, the particle starts at some point and moves towards the wall, but I don't get the "bouncing

Fwd: netCDF to GeoTIFF by layer in r
Hi
I have a netCDF file of volumetric soil water content at four
different soil layers and want to convert each soil layer in the
netCDF file to a GeoTIFF layer. This code converts the netCDF file to
one GeoTIFF layer, i.e. unclear which soil depth.
file.nc <- "C:/Soil_Weather_data/Agro/VMC21/VMC21.nc"
file.tiff <- "C:/Soil_Weather_data/Agro /VMC21/VMC21"

Problem with adding a raster and a brick
Hi,
I seem to be having a problem adding the following two raster objects
together - one is a rasterLayer, the other is a rasterBrick. The extent,
resolution, and origin are the same, so according to my understand it
should work. The objects look like so:
> obs.clim
class : RasterLayer
dimensions : 60, 200, 12000 (nrow, ncol, ncell)
resolution : 0.5, 0.5 (x, y)
extent : -70,

When reading from a ncdf file you can use the 'varname', 'lvar' and 'level' arguments - see the 'Details' section in the docs

Dear R-list,
I'm iterating several calls to plotCI [gplots], like so:

sum(..., na.rm=TRUE) oddity
Hi all,
I get two different results when using sum() and the switch na.rm. The
result is correct when na.rm=FALSE.
Linux Redhat 7.3, R version 1.6.1.
I've had no luck searching the mail archives, so I was hoping somebody
could explain/check this one for me. I will need to apply the function
to missing data, simple as it is.
Code:
x<-matrix(runif(20,0,5)%/%1,4,5) # random matrix

Creating Movies with R
Dear All,
I'd like to know if it is possible to create animations with R.
To be specific, I attach a code I am using for my research to plot
some analytical results in 3D using the lattice package. It is not
necessary to go through the code.
Simply, it plots some 3D density profiles at two different times
selected by the user.
I wonder if it is possible to use the data generated for different

stack object layer names not visible
I use to be able to see the layer names of a RasterStack by just typing
its name but now I only get this
class : RasterStack
dimensions : 70, 180, 12600 (nrow, ncol, ncell)
resolution : 0.5, 0.5 (x, y)
extent : -80, 10, 50, 85 (xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax)
coord. ref. : NA
If I do plot(s) then I can see all the layers and their names.
Why is this happening?

xmin,xmax,ymin,ymax,zmin,zmax
I want to plot 3d graph with all the all octants being displayed as well.
Any idea? I have used scatterplot3d package but it does not seem to have
anything by which i can draw "octants" inside cube as well.
Thanks

Regression line limited by the rage of values
Hi
In R, using plot(x,y) followed by abline(lm(y~x)) produces a graph
with a regression line spanning the whole plot . This means that the
line extends beyond the swarm of data points to the defined of default
plot region. With par(xpd=T) it will span the entire figure region. But
how can I limit a regression line to the data range, i.e between
(xmin,ymin) and (xmax,ymax)?
Sorry for
