Logging of Form information in production environment.
It seems that in the default Production environment, Rails logs posted form data. Isn't this a security risk? Especially since a user creation form puts this in the logfile: Processing Base#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2005-12-18 21:03:33) [POST] Parameters: {"user"=>{"password_confirmation"=>"mypassword", "username"=>"seanwolfe",

ssh -Y X-forwarding?
On rare occasions I want to run a remote X command (like 'meld' to interactively merge changes in files) and normally 'ssh -Y remote_host' from a terminal in an NX/freenx window that is acting as my desktop to start and any X program subsequently started would open in a new window via X-forwarding - at least when the target is a 5.x host. I don't do it often enough to remember

xinetd custom service - perl - remote address
Hi all, I can't believe that I can't find the answer to this one. I have a perl script which is called by xinetd. I want that perl script to be able to detect the remote IP address of the caller. I presumed that it would be an environment variable but I could be wrong. I've found reference to the ENV and PASSENV arguments for xinetd.conf but no examples, and no indication of what

Using request.env[''REMOTE_HOST'']
Hi, I''m currently using request.env[''REMOTE_HOST''] to pull back the remote users IP address. This worked fine in development (and production) under Webrick but when I tried to use it with mongrel, it kicked back an error. Is there a more appropriate way to find out the remote users IP address? Thanks in advance! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

active record outside of rails
I really like how Active Record logs the SQL that is executed inside of rails. Is there a way to get the SQL output when using Active Record outside of rails? tough activerecord problem
I have an application that is using active record outside of rails. the app works fine w/o the activerecord code, but when I added activerecord to the mix I started having trouble with constants not being recognized, e.g.: [echo] 1) Error: [echo] test_pipeline_cruncher(IntradayCruncher::TestPipelineCruncher): [echo] NameError: uninitialized constant INFO [echo]

acts_as_metadata?
I''m running into the need (on at least one project now) to implement end-user-customizable "metadata" or properties on model objects. The standard example would be a Person class that had first_name, last_name, etc. but would need to be extended real-time (through the web admin interface) with properties such as phone_number : varchar (30). I''ve done some basic

Success - Rails, FastCGI, and IIS / Windows Server
About 17:00 localtime I managed to get fastcgi, Rails and IIS all happy together. Upon success I ripped off my clothes and ran through the village yelling "The future is now!". A PDP-11 geezer stuck his head out a window and said "The future isn''t what it used to be and keep yer shirt on". Modifications were required to dispatch.fcgi and request.rb. The following

anyway to exclude logging for a given IP address?
Hi, im not sure if this is a mongrel or rails question, so im sorry if I got the wrong list. Is there anyway to turn off logging (in production.log) if a request comes from a given IP address. I use monit to watch everything, and I get tons of this in my log file: Processing AccountController#login (for 127.0.0.1 at 2007-07-31 14:06:28) [GET] Session ID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Specifying Which Environment I Am In

Error: [Object]Controller: missing default helper path [controller]_helper
Hello, I seem to have run into a problem that I can''t seem to make any headway on. I''ve searched the mailing archives, google''d for the appropriate keywords and have checked up with the folks on IRC but I can''t seem to find a solution. My problem is as such. Passing quantity in a shopping cart
I am using this line on my index.rhtml page to capture the quantity required of a particular item for a basic shopping cart app: <%= text_field ''line_item'', ''quantity'', {:size=>3} %> </td> but my next screen (a cart screen) doesn''t reflect what was entered in that text field when the item is added to the cart. adding a method to an ActiveRecord Object
I''ve already pulled my object from the database. Now I want to add a method. What I''m doing is adding the username to the activerecord object so I''ll have the name and user_id. How can I do this. The code below fails in the view. It appears it''s overwriting the rest of my object def self.find_with_author(id) @article = Article.find(id)

mysql mem-tables vs. memcached
Could someone please elaborate on the technical differences and practical impact of whether choosing memory-based tables in MySQL or using memcached. I got this far on my own: It seems that MySQL uses the NDB engine for transaction-safe memory access in a cluster. the memory storage engine seems to be faster but not synchronizable by any means in a cluster. memcached seems to be ultimately fast

Unit testing + instance variables
After *much* digging and playing around, I finally figured out how to unit test instance variables that are created by actions. It was more difficult than I expected. It seems like there should have been a more straight forward way to do this. Can someone enlighten me? A simplified and somewhat contrived example of what I am current doing: Thanks. user engine: Role.count() is zero in tests
Subject pretty much says it all. When user_engine#check_system_roles is called, it discovers that Role.count is zero. However using script/console to execute the same query reveals three users. N.b., this does not happen in the actual application; only when running tests. Any help is appreciated. Thx -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Cucumber Custom Logging
Where and how do you put custom logger statements in cucumber? I understood (more or less) how to do this in rspec in the spec_helper file but I do not know where to start with cucumber. I want to add a simple identifying text line in the log file to assist in picking through the output. Something akin to: Running Scenario: X Feature I should have this logged .... Feature This should
