Ferret 0.10 and Fields
Hey ... I just tried to convert my code to 0.10 .. But i''m currently not sure how to use fields.. i really like some of the new api.. its leaner and i like the fact that these strange consts are gone (like Ferret::Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST) .. I see that you''re now having Ferret::Index::FieldInfo to describe the fields of the index.. thats good.. and i now see that

Question
I own a recording studio. We do a weekly live concert broadcast to Facebook using Wirecast software. There is an internet radio station that uses icecast that wants to carry the audio from my broadcast live. I have no idea how to get the audio to them. I use Mac computers. Can someone help me with that. Cliff Witherspoon Red Arrow Entertainment 864-613-4201

ucs2 build of xapian?
Hi folks-- I'd really like to try out Xapian on my current server setup (Debian Sarge, Apache2, mod_python, django, postgresql, psycopg2). Problem is, my Python is compiled as ucs2, which is incompatible w/Xapian. I've tried recompiling Python w/ucs4, but it inevitably breaks psycopg2 (which I've blitzed & reinstalled on top of the new Python build, seems like dozens of times

Query scoring - WTF?
Hi! I thought I understood Ferret''s query scoring and how to tweak results using boost values. What I currently experience however, leaves me completely baffled. Perhaps someone can shed some light on the scoring algorithm, because asking Ferret to "explain" the score for a particular document isn''t as informative as I thought. Actually, it confuses me even

Sorting/Ordering Search Results
Hello All, I am having an issue with AAF and sorting results of a search. Right now, I have results being split onto pages of 10. The results are being sorted alphabetically, but not across multiple pages - it''s just sorting the 10 it pulls down on each page. I noticed another post from April regarding this same issue (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/62993#66934) where the issue was

Fw: share a folder rw, but not deletable?
Is there a way in UNIX to make a folder with read+write permissions for some group of users, but only allow them to read and write to the folder... not actually delete the folder itself? I have some samba shares, and directories inside them that I want to remain with their current structure and permission settings -- with many similiar group-specific files inside each folder, but I don't want

Sync Linux <-> NT Domain passwords
Is there a way to syncronise the Windows Domain passwords with the linux account passwords? SAMBA passes authentication to an NT box password server = * Users have local accounts on the Linux box and get access to SAMBA shares depending on which group (linux) they belong to and if their authentication credentials were correct. I've tried synchronising their passwords so when they change

New package for Biased Urn Models
A new package named BiasedUrn is available. This package implements various noncentral hypergeometric distributions, univariate and multivariate. Includes the distribution you get when taking colored balls from an urn without replacement, with bias. These distributions have many applications in models of biased sampling and models of evolution by natural selection. The multivariate

adehabitatHR - Creating Biased Random Bridge UD with a boundary
Dear List, It's the first time that I try to request your support. I intent do use the BRB (Biased Random Bridge) function with a boundary. I believe I have made sure to fulfill all the rules for boundaries (segment length, angle of junction) When calculating the UD I get the following Error: Error in adehabitatHR:::.fbboun(sor2, boundary, sigg, max(so$h)) : non convenient sign Can

Biased calculations from using rmultinom?
Dear R users, This is a problem that has puzzled me for quite some time, and I wonder if anyone could offer me an insight to what is happening? I generated a multinomial matrix by using A<-rmultinom(100,1,c(0.4,0.3,0.2,0.1), and multiply this matrix by a set of values say B<-runif(n,100,50). I then calculate var(colSums(A*B)). I was able to work out the theoretical mean of

non-searchable columns, normalization
Hello. I am new to Ferret. I am using it through Acts as Ferret. Let''s say I have such a table, and all columns are indexed using the default behavior provided by acts_as_ferret: ARTICLES -id -year -body [1] A typical request will be "select id from articles where KEYWORDS % body". Will id be indexed for fulltext searching? clearly the fulltext index on id will never be

variance estimates in lme biased?
Hi all, I didn't get a response to my post of this issue a week ago, so I've tried to clarify: When I use lme to analyze a model of nested random effects, the variance estimates of levels higher in the hierarchy appear to have much more variance than they should. In the example below with 4 levels, I simulate variance in level 2 (sd=1.0) and level 4 (sd=0.1), but levels 1 and 3 do
