hello,
I have a problem to open an hdf file. i have downloaded the package 'hdf5' as it was advised on R seek. But when i try to load the file, the R console sends me an eror message:

2 dimensional interpolation from matlab to R
Hi everybody.
i have 2 datasets : one with a long grid a lat grid and a bathymetry grid
the second one only has the long and lat coordinates.
So i want to know the bathymetry associated to the second dataset. I thought it was a good idea to do an interpolation between the two datasets. I find a script doing that on matlab but i want to do it on R. Do you how to do it?

kriging problem - very urgent
Hi everybody,
I have a longitude vector and a latitude one. Associated to these coordinates, i have a matrix with some data at some coordinates but not all.
Lon <- seq(136.025,144.975,0.05)
Lat <- rev(seq(-66.975,-65.525,0.05))
dim(z) <- c(Lon,Lat)
And i have tried to apply to these data a kriging function. But first i need to reshape these 3 variables to have a dataframe

difference between date and times
Hi,
I have date and time in a format like this: " 2007-02-21 05:19:00".
Do you which function i can use to derterminate the difference in time between this value and an other one.
For exemple:
this one : 2007-02-21 05:19:00
and this one : 2007-02-20 14:21:53
Thanks a lot,
Karine H.

to convert a character string in time
hi,
I have my data time expressed in character string exple "5:20" (hour:min) and i want to convert these in times recognized by R. I have tried the POSIXct function:
balise07$Hour <- as.POSXIct(balise07$Hour)
but it didn't work.
Do you know why? Do you know how i can convert my string character in a real time?
Thanks

nls problem with iterations
Hi,
I am using the nls function and it stops because the number of
iterations exceeded 50, but i used the nls.control argument to allow for
500 iterations. Do you have any idea why it's not working?
fm1 <- nls(npe ~ SSgompertz(npo, Asym, b2, b3),
data=f,control=nls.control(maxiter=500))
Thanks for your help,
Cheers,
Karine.

plot dates
hi everybody,
How can you plot some dates? I mean how can i have the tickmarks with the label of each date on my x axis?
The dates i use are in POSIXct format, i don't know if it matters.
thanks a lot

NetCDF file: adding a variable
I am trying to create a NetCDF file with bathymetry (a matrix) and then to
add a grid type (an integer) as variables.
This is the relevant part of the code:

wfile="my_file.nc"
msv=-10
grdtp=2
# Dimensions
d1=dim.def.ncdf("lon","degrees",as.double(lon))
d2=dim.def.ncdf("lat","degrees",as.double(lat))

Latitude Longitude to SPDF
Hi Team,
Need your guidance in building SPDF objects from Latitude, Longitude
Information available.
I am using package "plotGoogleMaps" which is really awesome but it requires
SPDF objects to build the maps.
I have a data frame which have Latitude and Longitude information and
wanted to convert it in SPDF for making maps.
Please help me to find suitable package or function to convert

latitude longitude data
Dear R-helpers,
I get GPS readings with bug counts (bugs meaning
insects in this case) made along rows in crop fields
and use these to make maps of bug distribution. The
GPS readings are not quite accurate enough for my
purpose, so since I know what row each reading is made
in, I adjust the latitudinal coordinate using:
grd<-lm(lat~lon+Row,data)

latitude and longitude distribution
Good day to you all,
I have lightning data containing date, time, latitude and longitude. I hope
that distribution of latitude and longitude will give number of lightning
occurrence in a region. I have used factor function to sum up the number of
events on latitude and longitude axis and saved as x and y. But when I tried
to plot the two, I had and error message ( Error in image.default(x, y, z) :

Calculating distance between longitude,latitude of 2 points
Hi all,
I would like to know a way of calculating the distance between 2 points when
I already have the longitude and latitude of the points.
For example :
Point 1 : 52? 9'54.00"N 4?25'8.40"E
Point 2 : 52?27'46.80"N 4?33'18.00"E
Distance between point 1 and point in km ....
Is there any functions already available for this ?
Any help will be much

How to access the latitude & longitude for UK post codes in R
Hi All,
I have a data frame with three columns i.e., pc, lat, lon.
The pc column is populated with list of postcodes, and I want to execute R command that can get me the lat and lon for the every item in the pc column and populate the respective lat and lon columns.
Is there any package that could be used?
Any help will be really appreciated.
Many Thanks and

Precision on Latitude/Longitude
Hi All,
I''m having a problem with Rails truncating latitude and longitude
values. In my database (mySQL) table, my lat/lng columns are defined as
Decimal(25,20), but I get different precision values depending on what I
do. If I post, via XML, a value of 37.436490000000006 to my controller,
what gets inserted into the db table is 37.43648999999999900000. Then,
when I fetch the record in a

Map projections - converting latitude/longitude to eastings and northings
I am trying to set up a Grass project and need to set up the region so
that I can view the map. I can look at a map and find the lat/lon,
but the map projection is in UTM NAD38 WGS84 and I need to set the
eastings and northings. Is there a package that will help me
calculate this in R.
thanks

Zipcodes latitude and longitude
I see several mapping libraries but cannot find how to do a simple task.
Starting with a vector of zip codes (in the United States and in Canada) I
would like to automatically lookup the corresponding coordinates. Can you
suggest a package and function that I should turn to?
I would also like to automatically pull in the altitude, and some climate
data.
