round function seems to produce maximum 2 decimals
I am trying to use round()to force R to display a specific number of
decimals, but it seems to display <=2 decimals no matter what I specify in
the digits argument. As an alternative I tried signif(), but it also
produces unexpected results. See example code and results below. Format()
works, but then the result no longer is numeric. Am I missing something
simple?
I am using R 2.9.0 on Windows

Printing 2 digits after decimal point
Hi there,
i'm not getting along with the following problem.
I'd like to print a real number, e.g.
x <- 12.3
with exactly two digits after the decimal point, e.g.
12.30
I've tried the whole format(), formatC() and prettyNum() functions but
did not have any success with it.
This should work with all real numbers, in case even with 0.0 (-> 0.00).

weird behavior of nsmall in format
>From the help page of format, nsmall should control the number of digits.
> format(0.123456789, nsmall = 10)
[1] "0.1234567890"
> format(0.123456789, nsmall = 1)

How to force R to print 2 decimal places in column of a data.frame?
How to force R to print 2 decimal places in column of a data.frame? I tried to do so:
x = inp(format(rounf(inp$Tamanho, 2), nsmall = 2),)
where "INP" is data.frame and "Size" is the name of column. But has error:

legend + expression
Dear all;
A simple? question.
I'm having a problem with a math expression in the legend of a plot
and I haven't found the way to get this to work, so any help will be
appreciate. Basically I want to include in the plot is the R-squared
and its numerical value, so I tried this:

number of decimal places in a number?
Dear R users,
I need a function that gets a number and returns its number of actual decimal places.
For example f(3.14) should return 2, f(3.142) should return 3, f(3.1400) should also return 2
and so on. Is such function already available in R? If not, could you give me a hint how to achieve that?

"digits" doesn't work in format function
Dear All,
I was trying to format a numeric vector (100*1) by using
outd <- format(x=m, sci=F, digits=2)

HTML nsmall vector format problem
Hello All
I am having a bit of trouble formatting my HTML with the desired number
of digits after the decimal place. Am I doing something
wrong/misunderstanding or is it a bug?
Looking at the example supplied with ?HTML.data.frame:
HTML(iris[1:2,1:2],nsmall=c(3,1),file="")
Gives html output that includes the lines:

Bugs reported here:
(1) formatC's help page need some clarification.
(2) formatC needs to treat modes "double" and "real" as equivalent.
(3) format's help page or (preferably) format needs correction re the

base::format adds extraneous whitespace for some inputs
Dear R Core Team,
First of all, thank you for your amazing work on developing and
maintaining this wonderful language.
I just stumbled upon the following behavior in R version 3.6.0:
format(9.91, digits = 2, nsmall = 2)
format(9.99, digits = 2, nsmall = 2)
yield "9.91" and " 9.99" with an extraneous whitespace.
My expected output for the second command is

FWIW, it doesn't seem to be happening on Mac OS:

prettyNum digits=0 not compatible with scientific notation
R developers,
Seems I get a bad result ("%#4.0-1e" in particular) when trying to use prettyNum digits=0 with scientific notation. I tried on both my Linux box and on an online R evaluator and saw the same problem, so it's not limited to my box at least. I see the problem in both R 3.5.3 and R 3.3.2.

significant digits (PR#9682)
I came to report this same bug and found it already in the trash, but
I slightly disagree with that assessment. If it's not a bug, then
perhaps it's a feature request. Comments at the end.

As the original author of prettyNum() {etc ..},
I will commit such a bug fix to R-devel (and probably port it to
R 4.5.0 patched) quite soon
(but not yet today).

Plotting numbers at a specified decimal length on a plot()
Hi there,
I want to figure out how to plot means, with 2 decimal places, of any Y
variable on a scatterplot according to any X variable (which obviously
should have limited scope). I already figured out how to plot the
means, but without limiting their precision to 2 decimal places. This
