glmm.admb - bug and possible solution??
Dear Dr Skaug and R users, just discovered glmm.admb in R, and it seems a very useful tool. However, I ran into a problem when I compare two models: m1<-glmm.admb(survival~light*species*damage, random=~1, group="table", data=bm, family="binomial", link="logit") m1.1<-glmm.admb(survival~(light+species+damage)^2, random=~1, group="table", data=bm,

var-covar matrices comparison:
Hi, Using package gclus in R, I have created some graphs that show the trends within subgroups of data and correlations among 9 variables (v1-v9). Being interested for more details on these data I have produced also the var-covar matrices. Question: From a pair of two subsets of data (with 9 variables each, I have two var-covar matrices for each subgroup, that differ for a treatment on one

is this an ANOVA ?
Hi all, I have a very easy questions (I hope). I had measure a property of plants, growing in three different substrates (A, B and C). The rest of the conditions remained constant. There was very high variation on the results. I want to do address, whether there is any difference in the response (my measurement) from substrate to substrate?

Error message: missing value where logical needed
Dear all, I often import data sets from other programs that contain user defined missing values. As an example consider a variable MXPLOCO with a user defined missing value of as -9. > summary(MXPLOCO) Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. NA's -9.000 4.750 5.000 5.349 6.000 8.500 2.000 The following command successfully converts the value -9 to NA. However,

Making the video plugin + patched MPlayer work with other backends
Hi, I'm wondering how I can make my patched up mplayer work with other MPlayer frontends, such as mplayer-plugin, GMPlayer, SMPlayer and KMPlayer. When I play a video using mplayer normally with: mplayer video.ext, It detects the compiz video output and works fine, however when it is called from other players (AFAIK, it just creates a window then asks mplayer to display in it) with mplayer

HELP relevel INTERCEPT-COMPARISONS
Dear colleagues, How can I do to "relevel" the intercept? I need that the treatment "Db" be the intercept, and have p-values for the comparisons with the others treatments. I used the function "relevel" but it did not work out to have what I want. Thanks for your help, Xavier T1 <- read.table(file.choose(), h=T) > head(T1) treatment replicate Time

lm with a single X and step with several Xi-s, beta coef. quite different:
Hi, (R version 2.15.0) I am running a pgm with 1 response (earlier standardized Y) and 44 independent vars (Xi) from the same data =a2: When I run the 'lm' function on single Xi at a time, the beta coefficient for let's say X1 is = -0.08 (se=0.03256) But when I run the same Y with 44 Xi-s with the 'step' function (because I left direction parameter empty, I assume a backward

logistic regression
Hi I am working on corpora of automatically recognized utterances, looking for features that predict error in the hypothesis the recognizer is proposing. I am using the glm functions to do logistic regression. I do this type of thing: * logistic.model = glm(formula = similarity ~., family = binomial, data = data) and end up with a model: > summary(logistic.model) Call:

matrix bands
Dear R developers, I was looking for a function analogous to base::diag() for getting and setting bands of a matrix. The closest I could find was Matrix::band(), but this was not exactly what I wanted for two reasons. Firstly, Matrix::band() returns a matrix rather than just the specified band. Secondly, Matrix::band() cannot be used for setting the values for a matrix band. Setting or

Noobie ANOVA intercept question
Dear R list, I've been attempting to interpret the results from a three-way ANOVA. I think I understand contrasts and the R defaults for these (treatment contrasts). My question is: what is the intercept in this test? As far as I can tell, its NOT the expected value of a point that belongs to the first level of all three explanatory factors (because there is only one point that satisfies these

Help please
Hello, I need some help on a regression I am running please. I am running a multiple regression in R and I am getting weird outputs and would like your help in resolving it. This is the code I run: Reg = lm (Final$Y.t.-Final$Y.t.1. ~ Final$ Y.t.1. + Final$Cor + Final$Gov+ Final$Inv+ Final$TrOp + Final$Pop+ Final$Sch , data = Final) summary(Reg) And the output I get is pasted below. mgcv: how select significant predictor vars when using gam(...select=TRUE) using automatic optimization
I have 11 possible predictor variables and use them to model quite a few target variables. In search for a consistent manner and possibly non-manual manner to identify the significant predictor vars out of the eleven I thought the option "select=T" might do. Example: (here only 4 pedictors) first is vanilla with "select=F" >

Simplest question ever...
Let's say i have a = c(1, 4, 5) b = c(2, 6, 7) and i have matrix m, what's an efficient way of access m[1, 2], m[4, 6], m[5, 7] like of course m[a, b] = is not going to do, but what's an expression that will allow me to have that list? Thanks! -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Simplest-question-ever...-tf3329894.html#a9258932 Sent from the R help mailing list

tables: proper use of Hline() in tabular()
Dear all, I am unable to understand how Hline() works in tabular(). I've read the vignette and the help page, and here this example compiles perfectly fine: latex( tabular( Species + Hline() + 1 ~ Heading()*mean*All(iris), data=iris) ) However, if I try it on my own data it fails. Consider this: set.seed(1) Xa <- data.frame(p=rep(c("First group","Second

importing explicitly declared missing values in read.spss (foreign)
There is a problem when importing an spss-file containing explicitly declared missing values in R using the read.spss function from the foreign package. Efficient way to parse string and construct data.frame
Hi all, I have this list of strings [1] "1 ,2 ,3" "4 ,5 ,6" Is there an efficient way to convert it to data.frame: V1 V2 V3 1 1 2 3 2 4 5 6 Like I can use strsplit to get to a list of split strings.. and then use say a = strsplit(mylist, ",") data.frame(V1 = lapply(a, function(x){x[1]}), V2 = lapply(a, function(x){x[2]}),.....) but i'm
