auditing R's memory usage
Hi Folks, I'm running 32-bit R 2.14 in RStudio on my Win 7 x64 system with 8GB RAM. I'm getting memory problems as R wants to swallow more than the 4GB limit. I think I'm stuck at 4GB as I have to use 32-bit R for a number of packages (ODBC, etc). However, I doubt I really need to be using that much memory - I'm probably being very sloppy in my memory management, leaving lots

Hello, I have noticed that the memory usage inside an R session increases as more and more objects with unique names are created, even after they are removed. understanding output of tapply/by cumsum
Dear R-users, I have a dataset with categories and numbers. I would like to compute and add cumulative numbers to the dataset. I do not understand the structure of by(...) or tapply(...) output enough to handle it. Here a small example -------------- d<-expand.grid(a=1:5,b=1:3,c=1:2) d$n = 10 * d$a + d$b +0.1* d$c Sn<-by(d$n,list(d$a,d$c),cumsum) str(Sn) --------- List of 10 $ : num

trouble with small multiples on a date variable
Hello, I am loading a DBF file into R via JGR and am having trouble creating small multiple histograms on a date variable. Hist() handles the variable correctly. But I've been unable to work with lattice or ggplot2 despite trying format() and as.POSIXct(). Dates are in the format "2010-05-15" and the grouping variable is categorical. I'd appreciate it if someone would provide an

Survival analysis
Dear all I have a dataset examining the probability of a population surviving (calculated from a logistic regression) of a species over a 200yr period. The predictor variables are either continuous but non-normal (e.g. temperature, oxygen) or categorical (e.g. channelisation), unfortunately I also have a large amount of missing values. differences between survival models between STATA and R
Dear Community, I have been using two types of survival programs to analyse a data set. The first one is an R function called aftreg. The second one an STATA function called streg. Both of them include the same analyisis with a weibull distribution. Yet, results are very different. Shouldn't the results be the same? Kind regards, J -- View this message in context:

default min-v/nsize parameters
Just wanted to start a discussion on whether R could ship with more appropriate GC parameters. Right now, loading the recommended package Matrix leads to: > library(Matrix) > gc() used (Mb) gc trigger (Mb) max used (Mb) Ncells 1076796 57.6 1368491 73.1 1198505 64.1 Vcells 1671329 12.8 2685683 20.5 1932418 14.8 Results may vary, but here R needed 64MB of N cells and 15MB

Saludos, Eric. On 14/05/15 19:28, Carlos Ortega wrote: > Hola, > > La forma de hacerlo con data.table es esta: >

stack overflow
Hello, I am trying to do an ANOVA on a microarray data set consisting of 22690 elements. The ANOVA is fine, but when I try to put the data in a frame in order to exporting it, I get a stack overflow. I have found documentation on dynamic memory in R, but not on how to increase the stack size. The code I'm using is below. If anyone has any suggestions for a workaround here, I'd
