sorting question
I've asked about custom sorting before and it appears that -- in terms of a user-defined order -- it can only be done either by defining a custom class or using various tricks with "order" Just wondering if anyone has a clever way to order "vintages" of the form 2002, 2003H1, 2003H2, 2004, 2005Q1, 2005Q2, etc some have H1 or H2, some have Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4, some are just plain

Add a string to each string of an array
Dear all, I have an array of strings a <- c("2008q3","2005q1","2004q3") I would like to add to each a[i], with i = 1,2,3 the following string "IMT", such that in the end I could get b <- c("IMT2008q3","IMT2005q1","IMT2004q3") Is it possible to accomplish this without a loop command? Thank you. Best,

The scariest set up of all: Printer Support
My experience with printers is that of all the peripherals, regardless of OS, they are the trickiest to install, configure, and use. So I'm expecting a battle here. What I have is a Canon Pixus iP3100. It's a Japanese model, but it's the same model as the US Canon Pixma iP3000, just a different name. First, I plugged in the USB cable. CentOS seemed to detect it, and gave me a

Routing for multiple uplinks/providers problem.
Been running this for quite a while and noticed that have intermittent problems getting out. Find that if I ping the same site from 2 computers it may work on one and fail on the other. Also was surprised that some time they are going out different interfaces at the same time. Seems to work all the time from the firewall. Running 2.6.10 kernel with the multipath routing patches on a debian

Advanced routing routing table limits and rule design
I am trying to determine how to best increase the number of routing tables available in linux 2.6 to more than 255. I realize this involves increasing the storage of some messages to and from the kernel in addition to kernel changes (from browsing the code), and was hopeful that someone might know what the correct solution would be or could point me in the right direction (like existing patches

Newbie STILL trying to limit bandwidth - is this script wrong?
My previous message (http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2004q2/012285.html) didn''t generate any replies, so I thought I''d try posting what I''ve done trying to solve my own problem, in hopes that someone will take pity and show me if/where I''m going wrong. Just to recap, I''m trying to accomplish this on my server, which streams RealAudio files

Add ID numbers on a plot
Dear List, I have (for example) 50 observations collected from 50 experimental sites and want to look at changes of 50 observations as function of time in a graph. I found that I could do that using R-code below: time2 <- 1:25 y1=rnorm(25, mean=0, sd=1) y2=rnorm(25, mean=0, sd=1) ... y50=rnorm(25, mean=2, sd=1) plot(time2, y1, type='b', xlim=range(0,30), ylim=range(y1, y2),

fuzzy merge
Hi, I would like to merge two data frames. It is just that I want the merging to be done with some kind of a fuzzy criterion. Let me explain. My first data frame looks like this : ID1 time1 dt 1 2008-01-02 13:11 10 2 2008-01-02 14:20 20 3

Extracing only Unique Rows based on only 1 Column
To Whomever is Interested, I have spent several days searching the web, help files, the R wiki and the archives of this mailing list for a solution to this problem, but nonetheless I apologize in advance if I have missed something obvious. The problem is this; I have a 5-column data frame with about 4.2 million rows, and want to create a new (and hopefully much smaller) data frame that

HTB, MPU, and suitable values
It seems Andreas Klauer''s fairnat has experimental support for using HTB''s MPU and overhead options. fairnat.config: # Use MPU for HTB. From the LARTC Howto on MPU: # "A zero-sized packet does not use zero bandwidth. For ethernet, no packet # uses less than 64 bytes. The Minimum Packet Unit determines the minimal # token usage for a packet." HTB_MPU=0 # HTB_MPU=64

Measuring and comparing .C and .Call overhead
Further pursuing my curiosity to measure the efficiency of R/C++ interface, I conducted a simple matrix-vector multiplication test using .C and .Call functions in R. In each case, I measured the execution time in R, as well as inside the C++ function. Subtracting the two, I came up with a measure of overhead associated with each call. I assume that this overhead would be non-existent of the entire

Question about htb class
Hi everyone. I''m new to this list and I have some questions regarding HTB class. I was trying to see how tc sets the parameters for HTB, but really couldnt understand them. So, I thought that I might ask the wizards. It''s mainly from the source code. 1. What is the cell_log ? (its everywhere in the code) 2. Why does htb calculate its burst(buffer) with tc_xmit_time() ? Is

improving a bar graph
Hello, Below is the code for a basic bar graph. I was seeking advice regarding the following: (a) For each time period there are values from 16 people. How I can change the colour value so that each person has a different colour, which recurs across each of the three graphs/tie epriods? (b) I have seen much more sophisticated examples using lattice (e.g each person has a separate

Function Surv and interpretation
Dear everyone, My question involves the use of the survival object. We can have Surv(time,time2,event, type=, origin = 0) (1) As detailed on p.65 of: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/survival/survival.pdf My data (used in my study) is 'right censored' i.e. my variable corresponding to 'event' indicates whether a person is alive (0) or dead (1) at date last seen
