Using helper method of another model
I have a template that belongs to a certain model (model A). I need to
call a helper method of a different model (model B). Then I need the
helper method of B to call a helper method of model C.
I tried using "include" and "require" and using namespaces, but I got
"undefined method". What is the way to do it?

ActiveRecord find
Suppose I have three tables - authors, posts and topics.
Every post have a topic and every topic has an author, so I have
posts.topic_id and topic.author_id. When the author is guest (not
registered), author_id is nil.
I need to find all the posts (in one query) where every post have all
the information of the topic and the auther, so if p is one of those
posts I could get the name of the

Accessing attributes
I have a name of an attribute and I need to get its value and set a new
value for it:
x1 = a.foo
a.foo = x2
How do I do that if the name of the attribute ''foo'' is a var?
I thought about doing this:
attribute_name = ''foo''
x1 = a.attributes[attribute_name]
a.attributes[attribute_name] = x2
but this is a bypass and I''m quite sure it would cause

Path Diagram
Hi All,
Apologies if this has been answered somewhere else, but I have been
searching for an answer all day and not been able to find one.
I am trying to plot a path diagram for a CFA I have run, I have installed
Rgraphviz and run the following:
pathDiagram(cfa, min.rank='item1, item2, item3, item4, item5, item6,
item7, item8, item9, item10, item11, item12', max.rank='SMP,

plot symbol "+", but with variable bar lenghts
Hi,
does anybody know of some plotting function or an easy way to
generate "+" symbols with individually settable bar lengths?
I tried just combining "|" and "-" as pch and setting the size via cex,
but that doesn't really work since the two symbols have different default
lengths. Is there a horizontal | or a longer "-" available?
Thanks,
Rainer

in-memory test database -- where''s the schema?
I''m trying to get the unit testing for a new project to use the wonderful
:memory: database specification for SQLite. However, like many people
before me, I can''t get the schema to import or have anything else useful.
Initially, the error I get is:

Install of 3.1 aborts
Hello everybody,
yes I did check the installation medium (dvd), so that's not the problem.
My system only contains components which are accepted by the redhat
hardware compatibiliy list.
But anaconda fails, announcing:
You are trying to install on a machne which isn't supported by this
release of CentOS-3
The error message stems from this part of anaconda code in
packages.py:

Dom0 Virtual Memory
Hi,
I looked at the sources and figured out all about the P2M, M2P tables and
mappings,
Now I''m trying to figure out how dom0 virtual memory is implemented, and I
have some questions.
The platform I''m working on is x86 with Intel VT enabled.
1. Is dom0 virtual memory managed differently than the other domains? what
about hvms? and domUs?
2. What tables are used to manage the

Installation issue R 2.6.1
I am seeing a peculiar installation problem with the R
installation files for Windows:
R2.6.1 fails to install on MS-Vista with a file
corruption issue.
But, the same R2.6.1 exe does install OK on Windows
ME.
The same problem exists with R2.3.1:
Fails to install on Windows Vista
Succeeds install on Windows ME
Succeeds install on Windows 2000 and Windows 98
so it cannot be the installation

library installation problem, invalid regular expression in help indices
Hi,
I have a strange package installation problem after update to R 2.11.0
on Fedora Core 12.
A colleague of mine with the very same Fedora and R versions doesn't
have this problem, while logging on to his computer but installing from
my settings and into my local library path also shows the problem, so it
seems to be related to some of my environment settings.
Installation of several

Setting up rsync
About a year and a half ago, someone answered a request on how to set up
rsync so that the encryption was automatically setup (wish I knew more
about the technical aspects). It has been in use for the time since
then and it has been great. Now I have to replace the destination
computer and setting up, what I call the encryption part, is the part I
have forgotten how to do. This is the

confint Attempts to Use All Server CPUs by Default
? Tue, 21 May 2024 08:00:11 +0000
Dario Strbenac via R-devel <r-devel at r-project.org> ?????:

Which confint() method do you have in mind? There is at least four of
them by default in R, and many additional classes could make use of
stats:::confint.default by implementing vcov().

Restructure some data
Suppose I have a data frame like "dat" below. For some context, this is the format that represents student's taking a computer adaptive test. first.item is the first item that student was administered and then score.1 is the student's response to that item and so forth.
item.pool <- paste("item", 1:10, sep = "")

RSS::Parser Documentation

I am trying to use the RSS classes from "rss/2.0" and everything works
but I want to know what attributes and properties I can get at from each

For example, the class has a "channel" which I can tell has a "title"
attribute (because it works when I query it :) but I would really like a

Differences between glmmPQL and lmer and AIC calculation
Dear R Community,
I?m relatively new in the field of R and I hope someone of you can
help me to solve my nerv-racking problem.
For my Master thesis I collected some behavioral data of fish using
acoustic telemetry. The aim of the study is to compare two different
groups of fish (coded as 0 and 1 which should be the dependent
variable) based on their swimming activity, habitat choice, etc.

I''m studying the Agile Development with Rails book. In the chapter that
