problems with lighty on linux
I''m trying to get our app running on Lighty... I followed Ezra''s instructions: http://brainspl.at/pages/rails_stack... Currently the app runs fine with webrick, but with lighty I get 404 errors on everything. I found if I don''t edit the lighttpd.conf file to use absolute paths, it works fine. But this is not good for production because I need to run it with the -d

Can''t stop/start lighttpd
Hello everyone, I?ve been working with Ruby on Rails for about 2 months now and have really enjoyed the ease of use of it. I?m only been doing development on it so I?ve been using WeBrick. Recently, I have built a server running Debian Linux, with ruby 1.8.2, rails 1.0.0, lighty 1.4.3, and Mysql 5.0.18. I used WeBrick to generate a lighttpd.conf file for me, I changed the paths in the

lighttpd proxy w/ apache2
I''ve tried a bunch of things trying to get ruby/apache2 and php working together. I looked over my earlier post and followed the instructions on ezra''s website to install lighttpd on debian. I''ve gotten really far but I think there is one bit missing: 1. I got apache2 and php working together 2. I got lighttpd working on port 3000 and my rails app launches ok

first ajax demo in Rails book - does it work for anyone?
Just tried the first AJAX example in the rails book (p.391-392, the ''word guessing'' thing), and the AJAX partial used seems to render as a full page. I''m not sure whether it''s a) a partial bug b) some interaction between ajax and partials c) a change since the book came out or d) pilot error I''ve checked the errata pages and it''s flagged up

FYI lighttpd 1.4.9 has problems running with rails out-of-the-box
In case this helps anyone I recently finished setting up a Debian server closely following Ezra''s excellent guidance @ http://brainspl.at/rails_stack.html. I used newer libraries in some cases (and mysql 5.0) and everything worked great until the end when lighttpd wouldn''t start. I finally figured out that Lighty 1.4.9 has a problem working with rails out-of-the-box. See

iSCSI on a single interface?
Hi, are there currently any plans to make an iSCSI target created by setting shareiscsi=on on a zvol bindable to a single interface (setting tpgt or acls)? I can cobble something together with ipfilter, but that doesn''t give me enough granularity to say something like: ''host a can see target 1, host c can see targets 2-9'', etc. Also, am I right in thinking without

Needle + Rails - IoC
Hi, I''m looking for past efforts to integrate Rails and Needle. I am thinking of doing it myself but would be interested in seeing what others have done before. If there are examples of other IoC frameworks being used with Ruby I''d be interested in hearing about them too. I find IoC to be a helpful concept in general and, having glanced at a few existing Rails app.s, I

Help with Apache config
I have been attempting for days to configure Apache for Rails. I have read forums, followed How-To''s all in vain. I am hoping someone can help me out. I am getting the Rails Welcome screen, but when trying to go to any other url, I get the 500.html message. Take a look for yourself at http://66.139.78.237 and click on "about your application''s environment".

Does anyone use RedCloth to allow end user input?
I was hoping to use RedCloth for textilize support to allow end users to enter textilized text (In blog comments, for example), but these bugs seem to make RedCloth unsuitable for that purpose: http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2989&group_id=216&atid=891 http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1779&group_id=216&atid=891

Maintaining and securing the "Perfect Rails/Debian/Lighttpd Stack"
Hi there I''m planning to build "The Perfect Rails/Debian/Lighttpd Stack", published by Ezra Zygmuntowicz and Sean Schertell at http://brainspl.at/rails_stack.html I''m wondering what sort of constant maintanance that setup would incur. What actions have be regularly performed to keep this setup healthy and secure under normal conditions? Alder

Lighttpd Conf Help - Multiple Domains Multiple Apps
Hi Guys, I hope someone can help me out. I am trying to configure two applications to run on lighttpd and each app will have its own domain. My machine is running on Fedora. When I run my lighttpd with the following conf file, I get no error but when I check out my app, it dishes out a 404 error- the 404 being served isn''t the 404 inside the railsapp/public folder. Do hope someone

Using mocks
Hi, What's the purpose of test/mocks? I couldn't quite complete the Wiki entry on this because all the information I _could_ find was in the readme. - Rowan -- Morality is usually taught by the immoral. _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails

compression=on and zpool attach
I''ve got 12Gb or so of db+web in a zone on a ZFS filesystem on a mirrored zpool. Noticed during some performance testing today that its i/o bound but using hardly any CPU, so I thought turning on compression would be a quick win. I know I''ll have to copy files for existing data to be compressed, so I was going to make a new filesystem, enable compression and rysnc everything in,

image uploads not working with lighttpd
Hi I thought it was time to test my app out on a real server. So i have installed lighttpd following the instruction on the rails wiki. everything seems to work fine except the file upload page. It doesn''t throw any errors, it just doesn''t seem to write the image to disk. Nothing is printed to the lighttpd error log when the file upload fails. I thought it might be my code

NFS share problem with mac os x client
Hello, I test right now the beauty of zfs. I have installed opensolaris on a spare server to test nfs exports. After creating tank1 with zpool and a subfilesystem with zfs tank1/nfsshare, I have set the option sharenfs=on to tank1/nfsshare. With Mac OS X as client I can mount the filesystem in Finder.app with nfs://server/tank1/nfsshare, but if I copy a file an error ocours. Finder say "The

SCSI synchronize cache cmd
Hi, I work on a support team for the Sun StorEdge 6920 and have a question about the use of the SCSI sync cache command in Solaris and ZFS. We have a bug in our 6920 software that exposes us to a memory leak when we receive the SCSI sync cache command: 6456312 - SCSI Synchronize Cache Command is flawed It will take some time for this bug fix to role out to the field so we need to understand

deploying R_o_R to local servers
Hi! I''m pretty amazed by the features of RoR so far. But, as I come from the desktop application development, my clients expect to run the magic on their domain rather on a foreign one. Also I feel uncomfortable giving away my RoR code to some hosting company, because I''m planning to do a large application. As I understand, RoR is designed to run on central web-servers and not
