Gruff gives font-related error
Hello Railslist, I''m trying to get Gruff running on OSX Tiger (intel) with edge Rails. I''ve installed ImageMagick, Rmagick, FreeType and all their dependencies, or so I believe. (I''ve compiled them from source mostly, following a recent tutorial for Rails and ImageMagick on Intel Macs) While following the sample on the Gruff downloadpage (the one with the fruit), Rails

Help - WEBrick won''t start - "Bad file descriptor" error
I have been working for a few days on a new (Windows) system, and suddenly WEBrick won''t start. Full error text is at bottom of message. It began after I followed Brian Hogan''s (terrific!) instructions for setting up Eclipse w/Rails in Windows (http://www.napcs.com/howto/railsonwindows.html). The server started fine from w/in Eclipse when I reached that part of the instructions,

page caching urls with space characters broken in webrick and mongrel
Page caching of urls with spaces in them using WEBrick and Mongrel is broken in Edge Rails (and Rails 1.1.6, where I started). This is due to the dispatch flow of control in both servers converting ''+'' in requested paths into '' '' chars, whereas the page caching system writes cache files for URLs with spaces in them out as encoded ''+''

Switchtower for production?
Hello, The company that I work for will be developing a large webbased survey (for a government institution) somewhere in Q1/Q2 of 2006. I''m investigating the technological possibilities and Rails is certainly a candidate. The survey application will have to perform under very high peak load, and the exact specifications of the hardware are not known at this point. I''m assuming

(Re-)designing a CMS
Hello Rails-list, I''m working on a CMS in Rails. The company that I work for currently uses a CMS written in PHP, and I want to mimick it in Rails, and improve along the way. The PHP variant works with templates like this: In the root of the webdir, there are the template files, named cms_news.html for example. This page contains custom tags, in the form of definitions and

Routing problems - Apache proxy vs. Webrick direct
I dropped the use of fastcgi because I could not get popen working (see ''[Rails] Apache2 and popen''). It works under WebBrick. Since CGI is too slow, I thought I''d proxy to WebBrick via Apache. I am having routing problems now with escaped slashes in the URL. Here''s my routes.rb: map.connect '''', :controller => "wiki"

Unusual WEBrick caching behavior
Has anyone ever seen cases where WEBrick caches pages even though it isn''t supposed to/isn''t configured to? I have an application where one of my view templates contains an <IFRAME>. This iframe has a "src" attribute that points to a file that I upload to my RoR server. Then various things happen in the app. and the file is sometimes overwritten, and then

webrick / winxp won''t stop serving cached file??
Hi Working through the tut material in teh PP book (agile dev with rails) on a laptop running winxp. Creating the "admin" application, things generally work great. Except: at teh end of chapter 6, when we update teh css to improve the look of the page - I copy the new scaffold.css into my working directory, but webrick keeps serving the old css, even after a restart. Very odd. The

port used by webrick
I have been using webrick via FreeNX connection and had to reboot server. Apparently the FreeNX ''nxagent'' claimed port 3000 at startup - before I could log in and try running webrick - which of course won''t start because port 3000 is already in use. How can I change the webrick port (Linux)? Craig

Caching of models?
Hello, people! I have a problem. I googled, asked for help on IRC. I can''t find an answer. Suppose I have model Cart (from "Agile Web Development with Rails"). Class Caching Problem [was Newbie Question about Custom Classes]
So any other ideas as to why my custom class under app/models is being cached even though all the caching is set to false in the config/environments/* files? Currently I''m having to restart WEBrick after EVERY change to the file. The controllers and views are reloading just fine and not being cached. It''s just the custom class I created that''s being cached. Any ideas

problem with webrick and edge rails
i know i do not really have the right to seek help with edge rails, but i am hoping it is something trivial. quick scenario: $ rails test # create a new project $ svn import # import it into the repo, then go elsewhere, and checkout $ ruby script/server => Booting WEBrick... => Rails application started on http://0.0.0.0:3000 => Ctrl-C to shutdown server; call with --help for options
