sending a vector of characters as arguments for a function
Dear all, It seems to be a recurrent problem to me and I am asking your help to get over it once for all ... My idea is : I have variables C_1, C_2, C_3 ... that corresponds to vectors of size n, and I would like to cbind them. I get a vector of their names using : temp<- ls(pat="C") And I like to find a way to use this vector temp as an argument to cbind.

plotting planes and lines in wireframe()
Hi R-helpers I would like to plot some planes which are perpendicular to the x-y plane, such as x=y. Is there a way to do this in wireframe? I realize that I am not plotting a function of x, y since there are infinite number of z's that satisfy the above relation.... Hmm... Somewhat related, I would also like to plot a line in 3 d space... Finally, if you are feeling really brave, I

How to generate a correlation matrix with restrictions on its eigenvalues
Dear All, I would like to generate m positive real numbers c_i, I=1,...,m, such that (1) c_1 + c_2 + ... + c_m=m, (1) after being ordered into c_1 >= c_2 >= .... >=c_m>0, we have that c_m is of the same order of m^(-1/8), when m is sufficiently large. undef * 0
Hi, > Both A and B are undef: > LHS = (undef & undef) | (undef & undef) = undef // Since ~undef = undef > RHS = undef > Thus transform is correct. LLVM documentation (http://llvm.org/docs/LangRef.html#undefined-values) suggests that it is unsafe to consider (a & undef = undef) and (a | undef = undef). "As such, it is unsafe to optimize or assume

undef * 0
Thanks for your answers. Another example of unsound transformation on Boolean algebra. According to the LLVM documentation (http://llvm.org/docs/LangRef.html#undefined-values) it is unsafe to consider ' a & undef = undef ' and ' a | undef = undef ' but 'undef xor undef = undef' is safe. Now, given an expression ((a & (~b)) | ((~a) & b)) where a and b are

has this been asked about before ? multilple exclude files
I'm was wondering if this has been asked about/for multiple exclude-from files ? Where I could find this useful is say I had a common or base exclusion list for all my AIX boxes --exclude-from=/foo/aix_base Then be able to add for say all my AIX boxes that are running SAP --exclude-from=/foo/aix_base --exclude-from=/foo/sap or --exclude-from=/foo/aix-base,/foo/sap and so on ...

Greetings. I have a question with mixed beta regression model in nlme (corrected version).
*Dear R-help: My name is Rodrigo and I have a question with nlme package in R to fit a mixed beta regression model. I'm so sorry. In the last email, I forgot to say that W is also a unknown parameter in the mixed beta regression model. In any case, here I send you the correct formulation. ** Suppose that:* *j in {1, ..., J}* *(level 1)* *i in {1, ..., n_j}* *(level 2)* *y_{ij} ~

Finding all triangles in a graph
I have the adjacency matrix of a graph. I'm trying to find all triangles (embeddings of C_3). This doesn't work: index = function(l) seq(l)[l] pairs = do.call(rbind, lapply(seq(nrow(adj)), function(x) cbind(x, index(adj[x,])))) triangles = do.call(rbind, apply(pairs, 1, function(x) cbind(x, index(adj[x[1],] & adj[x[2],])))) I'm absolutely certain I've gone down the wrong path

generate random numbers from a multivariate distribution with specified correlation matrix
Hi all, rmvnorm()can be used to generate the random numbers from a multivariate normal distribution with specified means and covariance matrix, but i want to specify the correlation matrix instead of covariance matrix for the multivariate normal distribution. Does anybody know how to generate the random numbers from a multivariate normal distribution with specified correlation matrix? What about

problem of R CMD check
Hi all, Today, i just installed the newest R version 2.10.1 and other necessary tools for building R package under windows,e.g. Rtools, perl. All are the newest version. After the correct configuration under windows, i use it to re-check my old package. I found the following prolem when checking EXAMPLE, which did not exist before this re-installation. ######## * checking examples ... ERROR

why the same values cannot be judged to be the same in R
Hi Rusers, I found sometimes that the same values cannot be judged to be the same in R. Anybody knows the probelm? I think i ignored some minor detail. Thanks. Here is the example. ############ data1<-matrix(data=c(1,1.2,1.3,"3/23/2004",1,1.5,2.3,"3/22/2004",2,0.2,3.3,"4/23/2004",3,1.5,1.3,"5/22/2004"),nrow=4,ncol=4,byrow=TRUE)

IMAP and POP3 per SSL
Hi! I'm new to this list and i could not find a way to search through the already posted articles, so please forgive me if this subject has been discussed before. Our security scanner stumbled over the IMAPs server i've set up recently using dovecot on a RedHat Enterprise 64bit Server. The security scanner found an error regarding a new SSL security leak named "BEAST". The

LME: internal workings of QR factorization
Hi: I've been reading "Computational Methods for Multilevel Modeling" by Pinheiro and Bates, the idea of embedding the technique in my own c-level code. The basic idea is to rewrite the joint density in a form to mimic a single least squares problem conditional upon the variance parameters. The paper is fairly clear except that some important level of detail is missing. For

use same breaks and colors, but the displayed scale are different-image.plot()
Hi all, I want to put several figures in a one figure for easy comparison, so i need to use the same methods to plot these figures. The following is an example. I also list my method, but it does not work. #Example data x<- 1:10; y<- 1:10; z<- outer( x,y,"+");z2<- outer( x,y,"-") #Quick view them image.plot(x,y,z) #relatively larger value image.plot(x,y,z2)

could we use ":" to represent multiple matrice in a list or sequential chracter names
Hi, I know we can use 1:10 to represent the 1,2,3,...,10 numbers, but the following conditions are except. Anybody knows how to represent the following two cases with similar usage of ":" or others? Usually, i will get several hundred names for them, such as a1,a2,... or f[[1]],f[[2]],... #Example data a1<-array(1:12,c(2,3,2)); a2<-array(2,c(2,3,2)); a3<-array(0,c(2,3,2))
