Help
Hello,
I have a question and need your help urgently. I am new to R but want to learn it.
I have several files in a folder which I have imported to R using :
temp = list.files(pattern="*.txt")
>myfiles = lapply(temp, read.delim)
The resulting files are on the workspace stored as List[110]. So they are 110 files in the list. Each file has several different columns and rows.

Principal Component analysis question
I have a question about princomp(mva) that I hope isn't too newbie.
I used the sample data from Table 1.1 in "Manly (1986/1994) Multivariate
Statistical Methods: a primer. Chapman and Hall" on sparrow body
measurements.
I rescaled the data to mean 0 and SD 1, and the covariance matrix is:
V1 V2 V3 V4 V5
V1 1.0000000 0.7349642 0.6618119

Conditional Sums for Index creation
Hi,
Apologies for the long mail. I have a data.frame with columns of
price/mcap data for a portfolio of stocks, and the date. To get the
total value of the portfolio on a daily basis, I calculate rowSums of
the data.frame.

Factor Analysis Output from R and SAS
Dear Users,
I ran factor analysis using R and SAS. However, I had different outputs from
R and SAS.
Why they provide different outputs? Especially, the factor loadings are
different.
I did real dataset(n=264), however, I had an extremely different from R and
SAS.
Why this things happened? Which software is correct on?
Thanks in advance,

Adding matrix rows that have the same name?
Does anyone know if there is an R function that will take a matrix like this
jim 1 0 0 0 0 0
jim 0 1 0 0 0 0
jim 0 0 1 0 0 0
bob 1 0 0 0 0 0
bob 0 0 1 0 0 0
harry 0 0 1 0 0 0
harry 0 0 0 1 0 0
harry 0 0 0 0 1 0

The help documentation for loadings() lists more then one parameter. The
function call only expects one parameter. The digits, cutoff, and sort
parameters are not used in the function.

code for "permutative" operation
Hello, I need some form of a "permutative" operation on a numeric
vector x
x = (v1, v2, v3, ..., vN)
that produces
x.r = (v1, v1+2, v1+v2+v3, ... v1+v2+...+vN)
If the operation is sum() I can run
x <- 5:8
m <- matrix(rep(x, length(x)), ncol=length(x))
(x.r <- rowsum(m * upper.tri(m, diag=TRUE), rep(1, length(x))))
But there's two things I don't know and kindly

how to combine data of several csv-files
Hello,
I'm looking for a solution for the following problem:
1) I have a folder with several csv files; each contains a set of
measurement values
2) The measurements of each file belong to a position in a two
dimensional matrix (lets say "B02.csv" belongs to position 2,2
3) The size of the matrix is fix
4) I cannot assure to have a csv file for each position
5) Each position

binary order combinations
Dear all!
I have a vector of names
names<-("V1", "V2", "V3",....., "V15")
I could create all possible combinations of these names (of all
lengths) using R:
combos<-lapply(1:15,function(x)
{combn(names,x)
})
I get a list with all possible combinations of elements of 'names'
that looks like this (just the very beginning of it):

reshaping issue
Dear R users,
I have a problem with reshaping data. I know such questions have been asked before, but I can't get it right, neither with the reshape function nor with the melt function.
My dataset has about 407 variables and about 48000 cases.
Each case looks as follows:
V1 v2 v3 v4 v5 v6 v7 x1 y1 x2 y2 .... x200 y200
V1 is unique, v2-v7 are

merge some columns
Dear all,
I would like to know how to merge columns like:
Input file:
V1 V2 V3 V4 V5 V6
1 G A G G G G
2 A A G A A G
Desired output file:
V1 V2 V3
1 G/A G/G G/G
2 A/A G/A A/G
So for every 2 consecutive columns merge their content into one.
Thanks in advance.

Data separated by spaces, getting data into R using field lengths
I have a text file similar to this (separated by spaces):
x <- "DF12 This is an example 1 This
DF12 This is an 1232 This is
DF14 This is 12334 This is an
DF15 This 23 This is an example
"
and I know the field lengths of each variable (there is 5 variables in
this data set), which are:
varlength <- c(2, 2, 18, 5, 18)
How can I import this kind of data into R, using the varlength
