options(width=100) ignored on start-up: bug or feature?
Dear developers
I've tried this a couple of days ago on r-help, unfortunately with no
feedback. Could you please take a look and confirm whether it's a bug,
feature, or bad eye-sight when reading Help:
Is it normal that R ignores options("width"=100) at start-up? Although

debug an error that incapacitates R?
Dear all
How should I attempt debugging this error?

When this happens R refuses to run anything:

Error in stdout() : invalid connection
Debugging it seems impossible.

plm issues: error for "within" or "random", but not for "pooling"
Dear all
I am working on unbalanced panel data and I can readily fit a
"pooling" model using plm(), but not a "within" or "random" model.
Reproducing the examples in vignette("plm") and in the AER package I
encountered no such issues.
##unfortunately I cannot disclose the data, and it is too big anyway

Latex problem in Hmisc (3.8-1) and Mac Os X with R 2.11.1
Dear all,
I did post this more or less identical mail in a follow up to another
question I posted, but under another heading. I try again, but now
under the correct header.
upon running this code (from the Hmisc library-latex function) I
believe the call to summary.formula is allright and produces wonderful
tables, but the latex command results in a correct formatted table but

latex() etc.: How to nicely format a matrix for a LaTeX document?
Dear (T)eXpeRts,
I try to create a LaTeX table from an R matrix for the first time. I am not sure what the "best" approach is, I just read about latex() from Hmisc (toLatex() didn't work).
Consider the following minimal example:
library(Hmisc)
mat <- matrix(c(1,NA,3,100,10000,4), ncol = 3, byrow = TRUE)
latex(mat, file = "", booktabs = TRUE, numeric.dollar = FALSE,

latex table question
Hi:
My head is spinning with this latex doc so hopefully after I align my tables to
the left of the page
my headache are going to be over. I always use:
\hspace*{-0.1in}
to move my figures horizontally to the left margin of the page but the table
below doesn't move at all,
but instead it gets sideways. Not sure if \begin{landscape} has something to do
with it or is just me.
I? hope someone

latex(test, collabel=) returns wrong latex code?
Hello:
I'm working with a 2-dimensional table that looks sort of like test below.
I'm trying to produce latex code that will add dimension names for both the rows and the columns.
In using the following code, latex chokes when I include collabel='Vote' but it's fine without it.
The code below prouces the latex code further below. I'm confused by this, because it looks

'tcltk' freezes related to event-loops (PR#14188)
This report is related to the bug `'tcltk' crashes related to
event-loops' PR#14187 [1]. The difference to that bug is an inversion
of the command sequence.

With the following sequence I get sporadic freezes of tcltk.

non-R hevea question
Dear People:
Here is a non-R question, please:
Does anyone use hevea for Windows to translate LaTex to
HTML?
If so, how do you get \bar, \sqrt, and \ne, please?
I get an error message of unknown macro.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have issues regarding latex() from Hmisc and numSummary() from
Rcmdr. Here's an example:

X100M never goes on-hook state
Hi guys,
I've been experiencing a very strange issue with my Digium Card TDM400
as of this week. It has two FXS and two FXO.
The FXO modules (both of them) never goes on-hook after hanging up in
Asterisk. It had worked perfectly well for over four years.
I put an ammeter in series with the line and the card, and immediately
after plugging the connector to the card, I got 26mA in the circuit

Save Workspace Image? problem at start up
Dear Sir,
I am using R 2.13.1. Since yesterday when I start the Rgui the
message "Save Workspace Image?" shows up immediately on opening. Even
if I cancel, it does not get cancelled. If I select either no or yes,
it quits. I do not know all of a sudden what happened? Right from
yesterday I am trying my best to run R but am not able to do so.
Please help.
Thanks

Sweave and tth
I tried odfWeave to create an OpenOffice file and found that it
exhausted the memory of my large linux machine and took a long time to
run. LaTeX with Sweave is blazing fast and extremely flexible. Most of
the time I can give clients a pdf file. Sometimes I'd like to make
Sweave LaTeX files more accessible (and editable) to (gulp) Word users,
mainly so they can extract tables and other

exporting data frame - write foreign inconsistencies
Hello List,
I have a data frame object (wa2) that I am exporting for use in
another statistics package. Using
library(foreign)
write.foreign(wa2, choose.files(), choose.files(), package='SPSS')
I noticed that there were several differences between the data sets as
seen within R (View(wa2)) and what was produced in SPSS. Examining
the data file produced by write.foreign (before running

faulty formatting of toLatex(sessionInfo())
Dear all
I am writing an Sweave document and have encountered formatting issues
with the "locale" part of toLatex(sessionInfo()). The fact that there
is no spaces between the various "locale" variables means that LaTeX
cannot easily find an appropriate place to break the lines, and some
will get printed off screen.
Below is the text output, and this .pdf document [1] shows the

rendering mathematical equations
Any recommendations on how I can get mathematical equations into my
resulting html? (Besides using x^2^ type markup.)
I figure I could parse out equation text from my main text before
RedCloth ever sees it... and then maybe create png''s somehow from it,
putting the links to them back into the main text before handing it
over to RC. But I don''t know of a util that will generate
