Color intervals in image.plot function
Hi, The script below is my current coding in order to produce a contour plot of temperature across altitude and time. In my case,?time, altitude and temperature?are represented by x, y and z variables. ############################################## Brazilan.Pallete <- colorRampPalette(c("blue","green","yellow","red")) image.plot(x, y, z, col =

Satellite ocean color palette?
Dear List, Is there a color palette avaliable similar to what is used in satellite ocean color imagery? I.e. a gradient with blue on one end and red on the other, with yellow in the middle? I have tried topo.colors(n) but that comes out more yellow on the end. I am looking for something similar to what is found on the CoastWatch web page:

Adding a distance scale to a plot?
Do you know what steps I need to take to add a scale to a plot? I'm pulling my example out of "An Introduction to R: Software for StatisticalModelling & Computing" (see the R code around Figure 76). I would like to add a scale to the image produced by the following code.? I would like to the scale to list the distance?and units:? data(volcano) x <- 10*(1:nrow(volcano)) y

How to seperate date and time into different columns?
Dear All, I have a series of data in which the first column consist of a combination of date and time, for instance 17 April 2008 at 4.01pm, such data is recorded as: 4/17/2008 16:01 I'd like to seperate it into four different columns which consist of Day, Month,Year and Time, respectively. Could someone please advice me on this mater? Thank you, Fir

Derivative of a smooth function
Dear All, I've been?searching for?appropriate codes to compute the rate of change and the curvature?of ?nonparametric regression model whish was denoted by a smooth function?but?unfortunately?don't manage to?do?it. I presume that such characteristics from a smooth curve can be determined by the first and second derivative operators. The following are the example of fitting a

need palette of topographic colors similar to topo.colors()
Dear useRs, I got stuck trying to generate a palette of topographic colors that would satisfy these two requirements: - the pallete must be 'anchored' at 0 (just like on a map), with light blue/lawn green corresponding to data values close to 0 (dark blue to light blue for negative values, green-yellow-brown for positive values) - the brown must get darker for higher positive

How to speed up R with version 2.9.2?
Dear All, I'm sorry if my question does not suit with this R group. I have recently installed?R software with version 2.9.2, but i found the program took almost 1 minute as soon as it was opened, before it can be used. However,?the previous version 2.9.1 only take few seconds?after the menu bar was clicked. This circumstance has caused me to wait for couple of minutes as several R windows

We can have a simple scatter plot, between depth as y-axis and temperature as x-axis, with each pairs are denoted by a red dot, by using a plot function shown

adjusting color palette
Is there a way to increase the "sensitivity" of the color palette in order to more clearly represent certain sections of data? For example I am wanting to clearly differentiate between height data for a rolling landscape but because of the extremes of the dataset (sea and mountain tops), the bulk of the landscape is shaded in closely approximating green - i have attempted to do this by

filled.contour and time axis
Dear all, I am using filled.contour and my x-axis consists of a vector of dates, formatted using as.POSIXct. When I assign this vector to x in filled.contour, the x-axis in the plot is correctly formatted as dates. However, when I use plot.axes=axis(1) in filled.contour the x-axis is not correctly formatted. I need to opt for the latter because I want to add additional lines and points to the

R-alpha: R 0.50.a1: small patches for graphics and image demo
Applying the following patches closes the following task (part 1 was already taken care of). TASK: New Problems STATUS: Open FROM: <Kurt.Hornik@ci.tuwien.ac.at> New minor remarks: * The documentation for `image' still has the old order z, x, y. * Perhaps one should add `par(ask = T)' in the image demo? * Perhaps one should save the original value
