Delete_all causes a deadlock on MSSQL database ???
Hi all, When i use the ''delete_all'' function to remove a few rows from my database, it causes a deadlock on the sql server. The delete seems to be successful, it then redirects to the ''view'' page, and the record does appear to be deleted as far as the ''view'' rails page shows. BUT if i go into sql query analyser, i can''t do a

How to carry parameters to a new page?
Hello, I have a page where user can register him/herself to the site. If the user enters something wrong, or leaves blank textboxes, I want to reload the page and tell the user what went wrong. Also the textbox-values the user already entered, should be kept in the textboxes. For example, in my user-controller: if @username.length == 0 redirect_to :action =>

Small Date Formatting Question regarding datetime_select()
Is there a way to make datetime_select() dropdowns work on a 12hr clock? I need to make a input field that works exactly like the reminders datetime selecton dropdowns in Backpack to populate a datetime field in my DB. i.e in the format: month, day, year ? hour (1-12) minute am/pm. Should I change my database to have a separate column for date and one for time and use date_select()? Can

How to make a drop-down automatically submit an AJAX form
Hi, I know that to make a dropdown box automatically submit when you change the value, you do this: <select ..... onchange="this.form.submit();"> BUT i''ve got an ajax form, and if i do the above trick, it simply reloads the ajax partial into the whole screen, rather than into the div where it is meant to go. I''ve already got it all working so that if you click

cleanest, least hideous way to do dropdown date validation?
My customer has dropdowns like this: Year Month Day If you submit with month selected and year blank, it subs in a year arbitrarily. Worse still, it subs in the year 5. I have no idea why. It seems a pernicious default. Anyway, they''re developing an app, they''re a designer turned coder, turning to a real programmer (me, allegedly) to make sense of the madness they''ve

Pros & Cons - Microsoft Office on Macintosh OS X
Hello Boys and Girls and Everybody. I have recently started using a Macintosh computer to replace the dinosaur of an unbelievably unreliable PC that I have been using for the last 10 years. So far I have been very pleased. I have been using OpenOffice for quite a while now as I find it is mostly superior to Microsoft Office in many ways, HOWEVER - OpenOffice lacks the Voice Recognition Software

Just looked at the Date helper in the rails API and noticed that none of the functions there (i.e. date_select) allow me to specify html options (i.e. class) for the generated selects. I was wondering how do other group members css format date select dropdowns? Accessing an instance variable by its name (as a string)
Hi (again!) I have a function which gets passed the name of an instance variable, and spits its out all nicely formatted. Just wondering, how do i access the variable, when all i have is its name stored as a string? So far i''ve got this code, but it looks horrible.
