Very small scores for search results
Hi Everyone, I''m using Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret from SVN (same results with 0.10.10 and 0.10.9 though). I''m running into an odd problem where the scores of my top-ranking search results are ridiculously small - even when the query is one that should match at least one document with a decent score. To give an example, I have just the names of 5 businesses indexed

Boost Sorting with Acts_as_ferret?
Hey guys, Simple question here. I have a single index of recipes, from which I''m looking at the following fields: Name, Ingredient Text, Tags, and Description. The key is, I want to show all the results that come from Name, before I show any of the results from Ingredient Text, Tags, or Description. I tried doing this: acts_as_ferret :fields => { :name =>

legacy database and finder_sql nightmare!
This is my first rails app with a legacy database and I''m having a terrible time getting the models set up correctly. I have an order table that has a primary field named order_number. I have a name table with a primary of item_number. These two tables are liked by the item_number and the order_number, but not as you might think. If the order_number is 2500, then each entry in

[patch] buffer overflow in q_parser.y
Hi Dave, The patch below corrects a buffer overflow bug in q_parser.y. Since it is triggered by excessively long query strings, I believe that this bug could be exploited to allow arbitrary code execution if a query string supplied by a user is passed in directly to Ferret and not truncatated. If I''m right, you should consider a new release asap. I''ve fixed it to simply

Per field boost values - possible? working?
I''m making a simple business directory search and I want to boost the relevance of the ''name'' field over the ''address'' field - both stored in the same document in the same index. Here is some console code to demonstrate what I am actually doing >> include Ferret::Document => Object >> doc = Document.new => Document { } >> doc

cannot create .hosts.b0WX1x : File exists
Hello, when I do: /opt/rsync/bin/rsync /etc/hosts targethost::bkp/ I get: cannot create .hosts.b0WX1x : File exists I check the targethost and I get empty file .hosts.b0WX1x When trying with other targethost-s it works, but on this one it doesn't. On the other targethosts I have exactly the same LinuX distribution, permissions and users than on the problem targethost. I have exactly the

library() with v. 1.5.0 for Mac OS X Carbon
I am having trouble with the library function of R Version 1.5.0 for Mac OS X Carbon when I try to load libraries that did not come with the R installation. For example, I put the Biobase library from bioconductor.org in the 'library' folder. R cannot find it, even though it can find the pre-installed libraries: > library() # this lists standard libraries such as 'boot',

Install it and ensure running and service is enabled. 4. Delete it the installer file. When I do this until 3 rd step I am fine. But when I create the file resource again for deleting the installer files, it says it is already

Indexing Mail faster
Hi, I am trying to get faster search results on our webmail client(Roundcube). Besides using Lucene for FTS are there other options? Would having all mails indexed give fast results? Currently the time it takes to search 25,000mails is 4mins. If indexed how much faster are we looking at? Really appreciate if someone could advise about this. Thanks Kevin

Summary: read.table on Mac OS X, CARBON vs. DARWIN
Thanks a lot, James!! The problem is fixed. On the version 1.4.0 Mac/darwin (the latest available version for this system) the function read.table (which is called from read.delim etc., too) has the bug you explained. Inserting the row nlines <- nlines+1 after lines <- c(lines, line) removes this bug. M. On Friday, February 22, 2002, at 02:33 PM, james.holtman at convergys.com

Summary re: read.table on Mac OS 10
Thanks to all who responded. Not all of the advice helped me with that particular problem, but, I have learned a lot just from your answers. 1. R for Mac 10 (Carbon version) uses the Mac convention of using ":" for the usual Unix "/" and thanks to Dr. Lumley for that since I'm new to R, Mac10, Macs in general, and Unix. 2. Interestingly, Dr. Ripley suggested to

differences between survival models between STATA and R
Dear Community, I have been using two types of survival programs to analyse a data set. The first one is an R function called aftreg. The second one an STATA function called streg. Both of them include the same analyisis with a weibull distribution. Yet, results are very different. Shouldn't the results be the same? Kind regards, J -- View this message in context:
